Post by: Chubbs on Friday, October 19, 2007, 07:40:58
My old man has decided to go with this Virgin free view package thingy is it any good? Decent channels?

I think we are going for the XL package with setanta sports (i had to beg but it worked)

I'm black listed by virgin for not paying a bill for a service I wasn't using. They'reok. Shame they lost the sky channels though.

I had to have my set top box replaced 4 times in two years!

Was reading in the papers yesterday that you can now get Sentanta sports for £5 a month  (not sure if thats the whole package though).  However that £5 a month enables you to watch all their live footy games.

If you get the XL package you automatically get all the Sentanta Sports channels free. There are a number of reasons that I prefer Virgin over Sky:

*Sentanta is free on Virgin (on XL), £9.99 month on Sky
*Your set top box is replaced FOC should it go faulty, no matter how old it is. Sky is free for 12 months then each engineer call out is £60.
*No matter how bad the weather is outside you still get a decent picture, unlike Sky.
*They have 'On-Demand' service. Sky still can not offer this.

Then there are things that Sky have the advantage:

*They have Sky One. So if your a 24 or Prison Break fan you need this channel!
*More HD content.
*more red button access.

We get Setenta Sports for free. But that is cos the dodgy geezer that set up our sky is too lazy to change the Standing Order!!

i was on ntl til we moved, they had improved dramatically in terms of internet service - i was on 10mbit cable and rarely had any problems of note. whenever there was extended downtime, a phone call and they'd give us half the month free of charge...

the television was awful though but this was about 2002 or so, it was truly woeful.

I had NTL back in the dark days and hated it, was absolutely awful.

But my Mrs talked me into getting NTL/Virgin for the net, got the small tv package for £2 extra each month and have to say it's quality - especially the internet.

Only went with NTL for the internet cos I don't see the point in having a landline!

So I is a appy customer innit.

I used to have NTL in my room at my Parents House but soon realised that it was slow and shit so i opted for a nice Sky+ box which ive still got now, a very good move if i do say so myself.

I had NTL for years and no problems.....it seems to me generally shit now its Virgin, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone....its just that I can't be arsed to change it.

Or maybe there's another reason why I can't get on the TEF....

Really Yeovil??  Might give that a go as we're paying £23 for internet and tv (basic package) at the moment.  Could do with getting a bit more for my money!

Interesting, when they first took over, I had a problem with an underpayment of 20p, had a rant, and  threatened to take the account elsewhere, and the fella said...yeah don't blame you mate, I'd do the same.

I have Virgin and its ace.  I don't have sky one but dont watch anything on there so doesn't bother me!  I have sky sports news as appear to have 2 controls so just need to flick to get it and have all the sports channels too.

Internet isnt bad either.

On-demand is pointless compared to the genius that is Sky +, possibly one of the best designed peices of technology ever

With Sky, haven't got a problem with them, but it is now £45 a month for the full package I think.  What is the equivalent with Virgin Media?

Virgin do their own V+ version (I paid £75 for the box and its an extra £5 a month on top).  It does everything sky+ does and a bit more.

V+ is better than Sky+ as it allows you to record 2 programmes whilst watching a 3rd, whereas with Sky+ its record 1 or watch 1.
