Right, it was agreed at the meeting today that we'd do something around the magic roundabout. The trust are always going to be stalled with legal action. But if we can get some banners sorted for Saturday I'm thinking that would be ace. Who has some old sheets and marker pens?

i have some washable marker pens, so you can have your sheets back afterwards. :D

I have Thursday afternoon free. Shall we do an art attack then?

A few people posting on a thread in a forum read by forty or so regulars is not going to get anything organised and certainly no message out to the local/regional/national media for a coordinated protest.

I'm more than happy to make a banner and stand in the middle of the Magic Roundabout with it on Saturday as well. That's kinda my thing anyway.

But it would be more reassuring if I knew that there were going to be another 500 or so people there as well.

I agree Alan. We need numbers now. Not 200 fans behind the arkells stand or 50 people on the magic roundabout with a banner. But a good couple of thosand minimum. You are right, it needs leadership, to be fully advertised and make people aware of the objectives we are trying to achieve.

But talking about banners to 40 people isn't going to get a message out to the rest of the fan base or (more importantly) to the media - who will tell the rest of the supporters - what is going on.

Not unless somebody takes the lead and acts as a focus.

The TEF is perfect as a catalyst to do that. It is read by the most activists and is brilliantly fast in communication.

Time is something we have very little of (no pun intended).

There is a group of 300+ people on facebook solely for this purpose. I suggest someone lets them know. I don't do facebook though so I can't.

It's probably also worth mentioning that the Trust are going to investigate the legal aspects of this.

I'm up for some Thursday evening bannerage making. The trust are going to be tied up with loads of stuff. I think that covering the magic roundabout in banners is an ace idea. Legal or not.

Thursday evening is good. I expect we can get a few more involved by then (especially when people read tomorrow day time).

Right I've got a cunning plan.

Anyone who's up for this idea please make yourself known. Thursday is officially the TEF make your own banner day. You can do this from the comfort of your own home - it's that easy. Think Neil Buchanan does Art Attack, but far more ace.

Anyway the idea is this - you and some friends make at least one banner. We can organise a time to meet and put said banners up on the magic. If we have at least 5 to start (one facing each road) then we're good. Any more is pure aceness and I fully expect this.

We need to decide what sort of thing to put on the banners so if people have a variety of good concise suggestions it'll be good. This could really work as people don't need to be together the whole time.

What's the diameter of the central roundabout circle? about 30m?

that makes a circumference of about 100m. I have no idea what cloth costs. but I'm guessing you can get some cheap shit at £1.50 a metre. That make £150.

I think that some more research might need to be done than these guestimates.

I can't get to Swindon, but i'm off work Thursday, so i'll make one 8)

I'm warming to this idea now. At first I thought it was pointless because I couldn't see how we'd be forcing the board's hand by doing this - but now I realise we don't have to.

Making people aware, causing disruption, gaining media attention - this is what it's about. Then we can have the more traditional protest behind the Arkells after the game.

As for slogans etc. Save our Swindon has to be one of them. Not sure on other slogans, I'll have a think about it.

Also, TUMDFC have funds to cover this.

I know most of the songs should be spontaneous but if we want more people to join in, we should aim for more of "We want our Swindon back"/"Where's the money gone" and less of "diamandis is a blow up doll" /"the swindon board are full of shit" etc.  This goes against the grain as far as I'm personally concerned but sacrifices have to be made :D

So who is going to do this on Saturday then? Something to do with the Magic Roundabout is a great idea. There are legal aspects to it but if we all stood around the roundabouts and in the centre it would make a great scene.

Drunkenly stumbling across the Magic roundabout after a few at the Merlin is one of best things about going to see town on a Saturday :wink: So i'll be there as always :beers:
