I think the problem was with Brunel as RS was able to report the goal "live" so they must use the same ADSL lines to report - I switched over while Tin Pot FM was off air and RS was fine with 2 updates in that time

RS was also saying how there was a "discussion" on the touch line when we conceded as J Smith was off getting treatment and Robo was supposed to be covering the RB slot, they also said the "discussion" continued a few mins later.

Well after beating bournemouth and milwall, and having a good start to the season, their was talk about us possible pushing for the play-offs. I'd quite happily settle for mid-table, but with this squad i feel we are capable of pushing into the p/o's.

Swansea can be a good side, but are hardly setting the world alight. Their home record atm is quite poor anyway, so i see no reason why we couldn't have been thinking we could win this today.

Yes but Millwall and Bournemouth have been very poor so far. Swansea will be in the top 8 this season. They have just started slowly and have a few injuries. There is no shame in losing there. We should beat Gillingham at home though. And i expect us to bounce back and do that.

It's not like we played for a draw or were totally pathetic by all accounts.

Can't wait for Saturday - the Gills will think they are well up for a win as they beat Orient and we lost but I think we'll do them

Me too. As i said our home form is really good if you look at 2007 as a whole. We don't lose much at home at all. They'll be confident but we'll want to bounce back. I think the majority of our defeats under Sturrock have been amended by a win the following game as well.

Even though I had to try and decypher the game from the welsh commentary, we still had more chances on goal than them so no need to panic yet.  If we end up mid table I wouldn't be that pissed off but as long as there's a chance to do better then come on you reds

Went to the game. Here's my lowdown:

First half was fairly even. Swansea had a few long shots, nothing to trouble Smith. We had a few half chances, nothing of note before they scored.

Their goal came from a Zaboub error. For some reason, he collected the ball on the left, just inside our half, and cut in and made his way across the pitch towards the right. He was robbed of the ball, they went down the left, crossed it in and scored. I could see a few players letting Sofi know that they weren't happy with him. I think he knew he was at fault.

After they scored, we had a spell of pressure. Two corners after eachother, I have no idea how we didn't score from either! Clearances of the line by the looks of it (we were right up the other end). Paynter also had a header saved well by their keeper.

Second half, we came out looking by far the better side, although created nothing clear cut. Paynter hit the post, and we had a couple of other half chances that came to nothing. Then Paynter flicked the ball with his head beautifully inside to Easton, who passed across to Roberts. He turned his defender inside out, then hammered a shot across the keeper. Almost took the net away with it.

They then broke away, got a cross in and Feeney scored at the far post. Not sure who should have been marking him, but this was one of their few breakaways of the second half. We were playig like the home team for sure until they scored their second.

Cox had one disallowed for offside (although I thought he used his hand Maradona style) and he also turned his defender and went through on goal only for the gay ref to give a strange handball decision.

Ratings

Smith: Made a dodgy punch in the first half. Couldn't really do much with either goal.

Smith: Didn't see too much really. Let the cross go in for their first goal I think, but didn't do much wrong.

Ifil: Man of the Match. Awesome. Had Jason Scotland in his pocket for the entire game. He appears to be growing in stature each time I see him play. He was commanding in the air, and made some superb tackles/interceptions.

Collins: Not sure about him. Good in the air, and not bad on the floor. Didn't create anything with his long throws.

Vincent: Was solid enough. Made some nice runs, but still tends to lump it downfield more than I'd like.

Zaboub: Not one of his better games. Gave the ball away on several occasions. At fault for their first. Made some decent runs, and put in some good corners, but I'd much rather see JPM playing.

Roberts: Quietish in the first half, woke up a little in the second. Seemed to relish the stick he got. Cracking goal, I'll remember than for sometime. Ironically, the one time he went on the outside, he scored. Cut in several times, and shot wide or had it blocked.

Easton: Our second best player on the pitch. Tireless running. Great tackles, and he can play too. I like him a lot.

Peacock: Didn't stand out. Won a few headers in the second half. Has a tendency to look for fouls too often when he's clearly not going to win them. Has silly hair.

Paynter: Linked up well with Cox, is a threat in the air and looked lively throughout. Had a header saved and also hit the post.

Cox: Worked very hard. Would love it if we could hang onto him, but I'd imagine Reading will want to keep him.

Commingues: Not a bad game. He does something great, then something a bit daft. Iron these out of him game, and we'll have a very useful player on our hands.


Overall, we deserved a point at least. I live in Swansea, and read each week how Swansea outplayed their opposition. Apparently, teams come to their place and defend. There were points where we looked like the home team. Was disappointed in them to be honest. They won't go up this season playing like that.


We looked good. Impressive away display. I really wouldn't be surprised if we were looking at a play-off play come the end of the season.

One last thing. The stewards/ref/linesmen were a disgrace. Two lads in the Town end were taken out. I have no idea why. Some people were going a bit nuts then. We clearly weren't a threat, I just don't think they liked it when we scored.

*Referee was fucking abysmal. If it's true that he was the one who swore at Wise I do actually hope the cunt gets what is coming to him.

*Vincent cannot defend, he cannot go forward and he cannot play any pass apart from the long ball straight forward. What a wanker.

*Zaaboub can cross. He can also consistently lose the ball by either passing straight to the opposition, dribbling it into the oppositions feet and then standing there expecting the opposition to probably do the same, or some variation of the above. Still needs to learn that it's a fucking team game because he really can look dangerous when in the opponents half. Just don't try and take on 10 men when you're in your own half you big bellend.

*Peacock was pointless. Should be dropped, even for Pook.

*Roberts had a real Jekyll and Hyde of a game. One minute he was diving on the floor, the next taking the defence on and scoring into the corner.

Now that the ranting is over I thought the positives were our two strikers. Worked their arses off and Cox was particularly deserved a goal I thought. Easton did the same in midfield and stood out for it. Unfortunately the central defensive pairing kept having to cover the exposed wing and sort of buggered things up for them a bit. Otherwise they did well. Smith in goal gave his typical decent display.

Wasn't Smith off the pitch for the first goal? If so, you can't blame him for the poor marking.

I think Vincent couldn't mark a brick wall with his own urine and didn't commit himself when people ran at him with the ball. By far the weakest link today.

Yep. If anybody is at fault for their 1st, I'd go for Peacock. He had moved to right back to cover Smith while Comminges was getting ready to come on, but got caught way out of position and left their winger to cross the ball in for the goal unchallenged.

Ref was dire, Stewards were even worse than last time we went there...although I didn't see any cameras confiscated this time.

we had 3 or 4 very close chances where a bit of luck and we would of scored...

it seems at times that when we score we go to pieces and concede a goal, then for that goal to give us a kick up the arse and so on....

brilliant atmosphere in my opionion, 6700 crowd in a 20'000 seater stadium and was still very noisy, probably down to the acoustics but very noisy!

Stewarding for the away fans was piss poor, wasn't aloud to stand up basically! yet all the home fans could do as they like. surely if your going to enforce a sit down at all times policy then its got to be for the whole ground not just the away fans!

About 8 town fans were thrown out for basicaly refusing to sit down. Absolute disgrace, there was a huge gap between the fans so no chance of violence whatsover...

just checked on sky sports and it seems your right, i was only going by what i thought was said on the tannoy. couldnt really hear it all that well though!

fair shout, i thought they said 500 swindon fans on the tannoy at hartlepool, turns out it was less than half that i think.

Sat in the Nationwide once I was convinced the tannoy said that the attendance was 17.   A quick count proved me wrong, but it did leave me wondering if they were counting people with souls or something.

Smith was definitely off the field and they came at us from the right back position J Smith would normally have been in.  Problem being no-one thought they'd cover J Smiths place whilst he was receiving treatment.

I agree with Si that Vincent was utter gash - he cannot run and insists on jogging towards players instead of actually running in an attempt to win the ball.  I lost count of the number of times Sam Collins came to deal with his ridiculous errors.  I actually think Vincent and Zaboub were at joint fault for the 1st goal - Zaboub lost it and Vincent couldn't defend it.

Commingues looked ok however did get caught out a number of times but tried his hardest to win it back and one of the only players not scared to tackle.

Zaboub and Vincent cannot play down the left together.  When Zaboub gets possession, Vincent doesn't make any run for him and just jogs along behind him - doesn't work.  I liked the way earlier in the season J Smith and Roberts played off each other - maybe the other two can take a leaf out of their book.

Ifil and Collins looked pretty solid - Collins especially considering its only his 2nd match in a year.  Ifils challenges seem to just be improving and very rarely gives away anything to the opposition.

Cox ran his butt off.  Chasing down balls, constantly running at players, superb effort and Paynter did ok too however looked absolutely knackered at the end.

I thought Easton had a good game.  Peacock however didn't really do anything.  Pretty innefective - debatable for Pook to be given more of a chance early on perhaps?

Finally, Ref was absolutely appalling - should have had a penalty, gave everything Swanseas way and I hope he gets suspended as Si said.

Their mascot also looked nothing like a Swan - more like a heron with a broken neck.

I also dislike welsh kids immensely.

Zaaboub was completely at fault for their first goal, gave it away cheaply. And whoever said Peacock was at fault because he didn't drop in at right back, you're wrong - he did.

Very true but i think the play-offs are way out of reach for us. Mid table looks like where we'll be come May. We are a good team we just don't have quite enough quality to get in the top 6. But your right people moaning at losing a game in which Swansea fans even thought we deserved a point is a bit silly.

It wasn't the first time we decided to throw it long from our own half or someone left his man unmarked at the far post.

I also noticed there were many times 2 people jumped for the ball at once and how people lost track of their man or backed off them and didn't make a tackle, which is what happened for the second goal.

Fact is, that first goal hurt us, the second killed us, but people want to blame Zaaboub for it all.

We were unlucky not to get a point and that's my genuine feeling.

Fact is si the first goal was Zaboubs fault its as simple as that. The second goal Vincent got skinned yet again how many times have we let goals in this season because of our left hand side.

What I'm trying to say is that we didn't lose because of Zaaboub, even though he played fucking dire in defence.

He's a fucking liability.

He created a fair bit up front. The corners he took looked dangerous and put in some good crosses after rounding his man and also one great cross in the first half from deep. That said I don't think he played well because all his good work was outweighed by his poor football.

However, there was more than one player that didn't perform close to average. I think my original post reflects that.

I think I've developed a degree of hatred toward Zaboub that's totally out of proportion to his lack of ability.

And he's also leading the assist table by an absolute mile though, he's not a central player and gets lost giving the ball away when he gets pushed inside. The problem however is Vincent, he has absolutely zero ability going forward and offers no overlapping runs which forces Zaaboub narrow as he has no one to take away defenders or offer an outlet. On the right Jack Smith has always overlapped which on many occasions offers Roberts an outlet and also giving him more space.
People moan Zaaboub doesn't help Vincent but I'm afraid Vincent is equally guilty of not helping Zaaboub.

To be honest though the Swansea experience was absolute gash, shit game, twats for stewards and moronic fans.  Trying to talk to the stewards was like talking to dog turd............
