Title: Sturrock's Comments
Post by: Power to people on Friday, September 21, 2007, 14:18:03
Quote from Luggy in the adver:

The squad is top heavy and we can't afford to run the squad we are at the moment

Another thing Sturrock needs to discuss, I assume he means we can't afford the squad unless the takeover happens.

I see that he was refusing to answer any takeover related questions yesterday...fed up perhaps ??!!

One bit I noticed him saying also was "If and when the takeover is complete".  Surely it should be when if he was 100% confident!

Maybe he regrets giving his son a two year contract now!

I think anyone who hasn't got the message by now that Sturrock is less than convinced by the takeover plan and that it's all over bar the shouting is perhaps a little bit simple. And no that doesn't mean you Lady (or indeed any individual in particular, come to that)

The full quote was:

"Also if and when things are decided on the takeover, there has to be a major decision on the squad because we are mightily top heavy and in the end we can't affords to run the squad we are at this minute. It is something we will have to do very quickly once there is confirmation on the situation."

That to me says we have too many strikers (6) and at least 1 for the time being is going to get fucked off on loan, with another to follow when Corr gets fit probablly. The prophet to a L2 club would be an obvious choice.

I am well aware of that however, just saying that everything thats happened recently is pointing more and more to the direction of what people have been saying from the start - it won't happen.

Bet the stumbling block is the money owed to Bill Power!

Any basis for that or just a wild guess?

My guess is that its an issue over match day parking permits for the new board

Nah, who gets the comfy seats in the directors enclosure. And does Willie get to retain "Booster seat" rights

Don't know what the stumbling block(s) are re the takeover, as nobody's told me and I haven't got a crystal ball.

The situation regarding the size of the squad could be as simple as the playing budget being over (Or perilously close) the limit allowed.

And yes, I am a simpleton............................... :D

As I was commenting on the "If and when the takeover" and not the squad size when I made the "little bit simple" remark, I assume this does not refer back to that, but is just a more general confession  :D

as one of our strikers is on loan, that should sort out 1.  One minute we are missing something upfront, now we have too many and need to lighten the burden.

I think by top heavy he's really hinting at Roberts to get a breast reduction.

I guess I'm as in the dark as anyone about this takeover. But having been involved in the negotiations for a couple of major (£350,000,000 - £400,000,000) commercial contracts (all NHS PFI's, I'm not Richard fucking Branson or anything) the one thing I do know is that they always take a whole lot longer than anyone anticipates.

The whole "it should be finalised next week...er by the end of the month...er next Monday or by the end of the week" bit is not exactly a suprise. This is how the legal advisors earn their money after all.

To make this investment work commercially these people need to get a reasonable deal, and that's going to mean negotiation, and that will take time.

I'm worried about two things mainly:

1. The creditors getting impatient for their money
2. What we'll find out about the new owners and their plans once the deal is completed.

I don't think however that people should read too much into there being delays in signing deals. That's just to be expected.

I don't disagree with that but these wankers have bought it on themselves with the greatest of respect. Release 'imminent deal in the pipeline', 'deal will be signed by Monday', 'slight delay but please bear with us' etc etc as media headlines and people have an expectancy that you will deliver on what you are being told, when you have told them by. I still remember the bullshit talk of a major new investor about three or four days before the early-bird season ticket offer ended.

Then again, what the fuck am i talking about - this is STFC after all. Of course we should know not to believe a single word that we are told.

I guess these things take time. I'm not going to worry about it tbh. As i have said before i am sick of talking about it anyway. If the takeover was in any doubt then Jose Veiga would never have been appointed.

It may be the someone already at the club has been telling them the deal will be signed but keeps adding in extra clauses to delay the process.
