Title: Hartlepool V Swindon Matchday Thread.
Post by: herthab on Saturday, September 15, 2007, 04:04:58
Leaving the house in an hour so I can be in Swindon to pick Sam up at 8.00.

Feel like shit. Knackered even before I start!

I'm going for a score draw today, probably 2-2.

Not sure why Jack Smith is out, Roberts is injured, Pook made way for Peacock (Paynter), and Sturrock made way Cox.

I think that it will be a game of two halves, the final ball played into the final third will be crucial, and we need the rub of the green, but we must challenge for second balls.

According to the OS we have 2 Jamie Vincents playing.

I did predict we would lose 2-1. But this is the sort of game I think most people expect us to lose and I can see us just sneeking a 1-0 maybe. Im very happy with the changes made though, lets see how some proper strikers get on.

I think brunel fm has been pre-recorded. So far they've had

-A preview of the wales australia match, that is now halfway through the second half.
- Saying that "mclaren will want to put their troubles in the week behind them when qualifying begins for the belgian grand prix". The same qualifying that finished an hour ago??
- Having a report on the "on-going" tottenham-arsenal match, which finished half an hour ago.

Stupid amatures. Radio swindon wouldn't of done that...

my point is Blackburn isnt a right back, Jack Smith isnt a left back. Pook isnt better than Easton.

Personally I think thats a poor choice for a starting 11, esp playing two players out of position when there is clearly no need.

it's the time old debate...do you have a valid opinion on a game you've listened to? can you take newpaper write ups as gospel?

the answer is no, let's just use the radio and the websites and the newpapers to tell us what the score was cos we're lazy

"say you loved something more than anything else, and you cant get to see it, but you could listen to it, and all week your waiting and youve been getting more and more excited about the game, then finally when the game starts you cant hear anything and you start to get frustrated, then you get angry, 30 minutes has gone by and you are now furious because you have sent an email of complaint which has been ignored again. finally half way through the second half you get a bit part commentary which sounds like that eighties comedian whose mic wasnt suppossed to work. AND YOU FIND OUT WE ARE LOSING. Would you pay money for that"

Yes we got beat there but we played the best football we have played in years and if we can put in more perfomances like that one with added goals like we did against Oldham the week prior to that then we will be fighting at the right end of the league this season for sure.

Good game yesterday, open and entertaining.

Positives:

Blackburn; won't let us down when called upon, he looked very calm and assured.

Paynter; does the job upfront that Peacock should've been doing, only much, much better.

MacGovern; fantastic range of passing, good positional sense.

Peacock; looks more effective and comfortable in midfield.

Phil Smith; pulled off some fantastic saves.

Easton; gets better and better.

Cox; he's better than Sturrock jnr.

Comminges; looked as good (If not better) than Jack Smith.

Not so positive:

Ifil; without an experienced partner next to him he seems to lose something, his fucking head! Yellow yesterday and lucky not to get a second one.

Vincent; looked better in the centre of defence end of last season. Doesn't overlap enough and his crossing's not very accurate.

Zaboub; he's a fucking cunt. Still not laying the ball off when he should, shanking crosses, defends like a member of the Argentinian womans squad and had two really good chances to snatch all three points, but couldn't even get them on target. The cunt.

Considering the number of changes Sturrock made I thought the side performed very well, we had our chances to win it, but so did they.

Cheers for that Hertha. I couldn't go yesterday and the brunel commetator's a cunt. I got more from your brief points about the game than i did listening to it. Not a fan of Zaaboub then?

It annoys me that the same people who slag off Pook (Yes I know he's not very good) Adore Zaboub and can't seem to recognise his faults.

Since the start of this season he hasn't impressed me at all.

The most overrated player in our side.

And the two chances he had late on yesterday! He should have put them both away, the fucking goal was open in front of him!

But no, the cunt couldn't even hit the fucking target.

That and all the dallying on the ball during the Yeovil game ... He was the focus of most of the verbal abuse coming from my gob.

Wonder how decent Roberts/JPG would be on the two wings?

Thanks for the report Steve, as stated above its so hard to get any idea of how we are playing from the radio, we sounded all over them in the first 30 mins when I checked the stats it was 80/20% possession in favour of them!

I pretty much agree with all your statements about the team, I think the boob needs a kick up his whotsit for most of his performances this season, hes looked (more) lazy and lacking the killer ball while unwilling to take men on without falling over, he has undoubtedly the skills to do it but he seems to have a bit of a problem with consistancy, even more so than Robert!

For my match report, see Hertha's. I can't be fucked to write it all out when my view is basically exactly the same.

I was sat next to Bart  :o and I saw Toni, bless her she looks a bit special.

And finally, just for fun, let's play spot Maverick:

We went in the supporters bar before the game.

Steve looked a little bemused when he ordered two pints and the woman said "£3.60 please".

On my round I managed to get 2 pints, a ham roll and a packet of 'big eat' crisps for £4.40.

It's dirt cheap up North I tell thee.

Hartlepool haven't improved since last season but we have.  We will end up higher in the league than Hartlepool.

Oh but we have improved, today was a case of "after the lord mayors show" for us after the performance we put in at Leeds last week. Yes we got beat there but we played the best football we have played in years and if we can put in more perfomances like that one with added goals like we did against Oldham the week prior to that then we will be fighting at the right end of the league this season for sure.

Good luck to you any lady who enjoys football is ok by me.  Crowd was a bit small for a good team, though.

Report from Hartlepool site:

Hartepool United were held at home by Swindon Town at Victoria Park

Pools boss Danny Wilson started with the same side that lost at Leeds last weekend, Ritchie Humphreys started in central midfield alongside Gary Liddle while Jamie McCunnie remained at right back.
The home side started brightly and Andy Monkhouse had a shot collected easily buy the Robins keeper Phil Smith, there was a large pause in the game while Hasney Aljofree was stretchered off with a nasty injury.
When the game restarted Jan Budtz pulled off a fantastic double save to prevent the visitors from going ahead. Budtz made a great save from Billy Paynter and when the follow up looked certain to hit the back of the net he made a fantastic reaction save to keep the sides level.
The game was end to end and Andy Monkhouse played the ball in to the box where Ian Moore was unlucky not to score. Swindon pushed forward and took the lead on the half hour.
Jon-Paul McGovern was a thorn in our side the whole first half and he put the ball home on 31 minutes he lifted the ball past Jan Budtz. Swindon started to sit back and Pools had a couple of chances before the referee blew for half time.
HT: Hartlepool 0-1 Swindon
Danny Wilson made a double substitution at half time as Robbie Elliott was replaced with Ali Gibb. Ritchie Humphreys switched to left back, McCunnie moved into central midfield and Gibb took his place at right back.
The changes really improved Pools play and we looked much more dangerous as Swindon sat back looking to play on the break.
Joel Porter made an immediate impact and he made an amazing run from the half way line to the by line, Porter played the ball into the middle for the waiting Barker but a Swindon defender beat the big man to the ball and out for a corner.
The corner did not bring an equaliser but Porter did soon after, the Australian international held off several Swindon players and fired a great shot into the right hand corner of the goal. Joel Porter looked like his old self as Pools grabbed a deserved goal.
Michael Nelson went off after picking up a knock and he was replaced by the ever dependable Ben Clark. Swindon loosened up a little and had 2 clear cut chances to regain the lead, both chances came after they broke quickly on us and they really should have put both away.
At the other end a cross from Ritchie Humphreys was met with a poor header from Andy Monkhouse and Pools could have had a penalty when a Swindon player made a dodgy tackle in the box.
Budtz had to be on guard to tip over a header and James Brown was bundled over in the Swindon area as each side went for a winner, it didn't come and the referee blew for full time after 4 additional minutes.
FT: Hartlepool 1-1 Swindon
Comment
It really was a great game and both sides had chances, Pools should have had a penalty but Swindon missed two when they really should have scored.
I though we looked much better in the second half when we switched it around. Even Ali Gibb wasn't awful, just not very good and he is definitely not a right back. We were more solid at the back after the rubbish Elliott went off too.
The best player for me was our keeper, he pulled off some unbelieveable saves and was generally sound for the rest of the game. We now lie third in the table and visit table toppers Leyton Orient next weekend.
MOM: Jan Budtz
