Title: Books Post by: BANGKOK RED on Monday, September 10, 2007, 20:29:04 Well, it seems as though, despite my most voical protests, as though I will have to endure a very long and immensely boring journey within the next couple of weeks using Thailand's world beating rail system (YES I am being CUNTING well sarcastic). And so I will be needing a good read to keep me company, any recommendations?
FFS, WHAT WHERE PLANES INVENTED FOR :x :x :x Title: Books Post by: ronnie21 on Monday, September 10, 2007, 20:54:13 Andy King's coaching manual? Iffy's "I had to do it on the cheap"? Dennis Wise's "I only have eyes for Ken"? or Paul Sturrock's "Fuck knows who's the boss"?

Title: Books Post by: janaage on Tuesday, September 11, 2007, 07:59:24 If you've never seen the film, or have but years ago try "The Godfather - Mario Puzo" the best book I have ever read. Only problem is you won't be able to put it down so you'll finish it before you know it!
Title: Books Post by: Amir on Tuesday, September 11, 2007, 09:35:09 I seem to just be reading disturbing books at the moment, I started Steppenwolf by Herman Hesse but put it down for too long so will have to start afresh. Then I read Everyman by Phil Roth, a book about a man's gradual decent towards death and the illnesses that debilatate him along the way. Ends quite nicely though.
Now I'm just finishing Hunger by Knut Hamsen, a novel about the near starvation and increasing insanity of a man wandering the streets of Oslo. fascinating and disturbing in equal measures. Has anybody read anything by Murakami? Title: Books Post by: larwood on Tuesday, September 11, 2007, 10:14:50 Dickens is amazing, his stories are so full of weird and wonderful characters with equally weird names and they go on for ages.My favourite is probably Martin Chuzzlewit,a early one and very funny. The books towards the end of his life are a bit hard to read for me,though Our Mutal friend is incredible.
Currently reading Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides and its fantastic.Didcot Library is running a Big gay read section [which Middlesex is a part of] and i picked up three books  :D Title: Books Post by: STFCBird on Tuesday, September 11, 2007, 10:23:06 I'm reading sex for dummies :D

Title: Books Post by: Luci on Friday, January 4, 2008, 12:51:11 Ive just bought "A Thousand Splendid Suns" by Khaled Hosseini. Apparently his books are pretty good. Also wrote the Kite Runner. Its supposed to be about the volatile events of Afghanistan’s last thirty years—from the reign of the Taliban to the post-Taliban rebuilding and looks pretty good.
Im in the middle of Russel Brands "My Booky Wook" at the moment which is pretty hilarious. Title: Books Post by: DMR on Friday, January 4, 2008, 13:01:12 I'm halfway through Clarkson's "Don't Stop Me Now" which is very amusing.
I fancy something a bit more complex for my next read though, I missed out on His Dark Materials trilogy by Philip Pullman so I'm starting on Northern Lights for my next read, and have The Subtle Knife lined up. Title: Books Post by: red macca on Friday, January 4, 2008, 13:01:45 Russell Brands Autobiography, suprisingly good

Title: Books Post by: red macca on Friday, January 4, 2008, 13:31:01 Its very good, had a mad life.
Have you read that book stuart a life backwards, probably the best book i have ever read Title: Books Post by: Amir on Friday, January 4, 2008, 15:22:37 Quote from: "red macca" Have you read that book stuart a life backwards, probably the best book i have ever read About the addict who tried to get the hostel workers convicted of dealing freed? They dramatised that not long ago , bbc2 I think, was quite well done I thought. My girlfriend wanted to watch it because she works with ex-addicts. The last book I read was The Damned United, which was a cracking little read really. Not I'm flitting through The Book of General Ignorance, while trying to decide between a John Pilger book or something by Murakami. Title: Books Post by: land_of_bo on Friday, January 4, 2008, 16:03:16 I read loads of books when I was away...
Read a few Robert Ludlums but I didn't read any of the Bourne ones, I managed The bancroft Strategy, Road to Omaha, The Sigma Protocol and The Altman Code. Also read Imperium by Robert Harris, I like his stuff and I managed to squeeze in an old Tom Clancy classic, Without Remorse and The Day of the Jackal! I was away for 3.5 weeks!! Title: Books Post by: Boeta on Friday, January 4, 2008, 16:48:51 finally got round to reading angels and demons a couple of weeks back. i personally prefer the da vinci code. perhaps if i had read a&d first it would be the other way round, as both follow very similar patterns.
don't read anywhere near as much as i used to, as whenever i open a book i realise it should be some uni related literature instead of light relief Title: Books Post by: Spud on Friday, January 4, 2008, 16:53:33 http://www.amazon.co.uk/Shadow-Wind-Carlos-Ruiz-Zafon/dp/0753820250/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1199465592&sr=1-1

Title: Books Post by: axs on Saturday, January 5, 2008, 01:30:58 someone recommended a book to me a similar thread a while ago, i bought it off ebay for a quid and it was really good, i think it was called Kolymsky heights or something.
Title: Books Post by: BANGKOK RED on Saturday, January 5, 2008, 09:10:18 I'm trying to read 'Porno' by Irvine Welsh. A tad difficult to follow because of the thick Scot's accent (Even when written). I think that I might give up soon.
I also read Mr. Nice recently, which I thoroughly enjoyed. It's a bit slow to start with and so a few people don't seem to get far with it but I perservered and it picked up alot. Fascinating chap Howard Marks. Title: Books Post by: herthab on Saturday, January 5, 2008, 09:14:22 I've just finished reading 'Making History' by Stephen Fry.
It's a good read (But that doesn't make me a gayer or nuffin'.............) Title: Books Post by: axs on Saturday, January 5, 2008, 10:52:31 is that the nazi time travelling one? that was quite good. one of his others waas weird and involved a young man shagging a horse. :?

Fascinating chap Howard Marks. what i like about "mr nice" is that howard marks has spent the majority of his life ridiculously caned, but still has sufficient recollection to go into the level of detail he does in that book. very impressive. Title: Books Post by: lebowski on Saturday, January 5, 2008, 11:45:00 also, there is talk of a film adaptation of porno.
sufficient time has now passed, they are just waiting for the original 'trainspotting' characters to all be available. Title: Books Post by: mattboyslim on Saturday, January 5, 2008, 19:48:24 All irvine Welsh books are written in the dialect, persist with tehm and you will be rewarded as they are excellent reads. I'm just finishing the Bourne Identity, a good read and might persuade me to watch the film now. Then I've the choice of Mark Billingham maccabre crime thrillers or the second Mark Haddon book. Anyone who gets the chance to read the non-footbal factory books by John King shoudl, they make a good read.
