the benefit is they don't waste their time, energy and fitness playing meaningless county fixtures day after day.

I think its a sensible idea. What's the point in somebody being contracted to a county and only playing a few games a season?!

I believe they are still contracted to their counties and to the ECB, who say when and where they can play!!
