Title: Big Hole Ooo Err!
Post by: herthab on Tuesday, September 4, 2007, 07:49:15
On the Adver site today, Sturrock has stated we still have 'one hole left in our team.......'

Any ideas?

He didn't prefix the 'hole' with 'arse', so he must be on about a posistion he's not happy with re decent back up.

I'm guessing competition for Vincents place as perhaps he doesn't rate Nicho?

"We have one hole left in our team that I am not totally happy with. If one of those were to go down we would toil because it is three weeks before deadline."

What deadline?

With the squad now it appeared that there is good cover for all positions. To take Vincent as an example, Nicholas, Zaboub, Tozer ...

What hole, dear Liza?

I think the deadline he's referring to is the loan deal one.

I tried to think of an obvious weakness in our squad, but couldn't.

Which probably means Lady's on the right track.

Although it may be somebody else Sturrock doesn't rate....................

Been mentioned before but Tozer is naturally a CB however played at LB against Charlton so not sure if Sturrock is trying to adapt him or not. (He was on the bench at the weekend making me think perhaps he was 2nd to Vincent?)

Nicho, I don't think Sturrock rates.

I wouldn't really want to see Sofi as cover either.

TBH I'm probably completely way off the mark, just a guess like.

Yes I believe so, just didn't get the impression Sturrock rated him from day 1 however not sure if he has seen enough of him.

Nicho yeah, but not forever?

The loan deadline runs into November I thought. Loan window dates were posted on here before somewhere. If you've forgotten them, tough titty!

I'm allowed because I am somewhere between 50 and 70, I forget.

Probably wide left I would have thought. So I'm in agreement with newmarket red

If Sturrock doesn't rate Nicho, why offer him a new contract - would have been easy just to ship him out at that stage surely?

God knows, I'm only speculating and thats one of the only positions I think could be incomplete!

Did he offer him though or did he have one of those one year contract's triggered after he made a certain amount of appearances last year.  Would have to be left back or left midfield as we look strong elsewhere, the Minge can also play left midfield so I would of thought that was sufficent cover but I'm not going to argue if he goes out and gets Lee Holmes on loan for example.

obviously wide left.

we've got zaaboub, rigley who is so good he's on loan at ciren, caton who scored once 4 years ago and has since been injured almost solidly, and comminges who was signed as a right back.

it's not rocket science, loan window = lee holmes till xmas i would think.
why would he try so hard to sign him for the last 3 months, if he doesnt think we're lacking in that area?

I suspect hei s talknig about CB position as at the moment we do not have any experienced cover only really Jesus and Tozer who may not be good enough to put in, and Williams is still injured.

He has Vincent who can move over but then that makes a problem at LB with Nico injured.

I would have thought Sturrock would quite like Nicholas as he gets forward alot and is more comfortable on the ball forward.

Vincent sometimes gets forward then looks totally out of place, like he doesnt know what to do with the ball.

If Adi is still injured then maybe we need another centre back with some expirence.

But, I expect its wide left as Zaaboub is the only wide left player we have, as far as I'm aware McGovern is right footed

Doubtful, because when he came on during the Crewe game they moved Roberts over to the left

He played there when he came on at Northampton on the opening day and looked just as handy out there as he has when he played on the right.

Surely any professional winger should be able to play both sides!

But then he looked gash (again excuse the pun) against Charlton.  Roberts has a good left boot.
