Interesting fact. The last competitive away game I went to was vs. Exeter in the LDV. Think we won 2-0 or 2-1 or something. They weren't expecting so many Swindon fans and ran out of Pasties at half time.

Shit wait, I went to Cheltenham didn't I? Scrap that.

Starting line up?

I'm thinking

Code:

                        Brez

Smith       Ifil        Aljofree       Vincent

McGovern   Easton    Pook    Comminges

                Cox      Paynter

Subs: Smith, Blackburn, Adams, Arrieta, Mohammed

Smith       Blackburn        Aljofree       Tozer

McGovern   Easton    Adams(if fit)    Comminges

                Cox      Paynter

Don't know if that would be allowed.

Don't you have to play a majority of players who have started most of your games?

I think you have to play 6 players who played in the last league game. I'd go for:

                            Brez
              Smith   Ifil   Jesus  Zaaboub
Commingues  Peacs  Easton  JPM
                        Cox    Paynter

Well Brez will certainly play, as will the new three.

I'm fairly sure PS will want to get Leapy Lee back into midfield given that he's gonna need to brush up on being a midfielder again - if Adams is fit I guess he'll play alongside him, that's already 5 new starters so I guess the rest will have to be as you were?

So:

Code:
                Brez

Smith       Ifil            Aljofree       Vincent

Robbo      Peacs       Adams               JP

              Cox          Paynter

Course if Adams isn't fit then Easton or Pook will start leaving a spare place for one of Blackburn or The Minge I'd assume.

What are the BBC on about!

Quote
Swindon v Brentford

Swindon hope to give debuts to deadline day signings Billy Paynter, Jon-Paul McGovern and Simon Cox.

Barry Corr could make his comeback from a back injury.

Simon Brown is poised to replace Ben Hamer in Brentford's goal, for his first Bees appearance after recovering from a pre-season injury.

On-loan players Grant Basey, Sammy Moore, Ben Starosta and Adrian Pettigrew could feature but John Mackie is injured and Lee Thorpe suspended.

"Clubs have also made a renewed commitment to fielding full-strength teams throughout the Johnstone's Paint Trophy. Under the competition's rules, clubs will be required to include in their matchday line-up a majority of the 11 players that have appeared most often in first team games this season."

Mauro Alexandre de Silva Almeida is an Portuguese footballer who plays as a defender He has recently been released by Accrington Stanley, having joined the club on January 30, 2007 on a free transfer, after impressing during a trial.

He started his career with top Portuguese side FC Porto, where he failed to make a first team appearance, before moving to Estrela Amadora where he stayed for two seasons. He then left to join Dutch side FC Zwolle in January 2004, where he played for a year before leaving to play for Bulgarian top division club Vihren Sandanski. He was released, but was found by Accrington shortly after, during a mid-season training trip to Spain. He left Stanley at the end of the season.

I now know who Almeida is. I saw him at the Superbowl/Megabowl/Ten Pin with Arrieta bowling and then playing pool.

I just assumed it was that other Porko we had on trial and stayed behind for trials with other clubs.

Poor ol' Matty Heywood - buggered off to Ashton Gate for a bigger contract - and it all went wrong from there, thus proving that join City and be damned for eternity.

Paul Bodin.

Penalty for Swindon at Wembley + Crucial penalty miss for Wales = Hero.

It would have been horrible to have Wales at USA '94 with us sat at home!

I went to USA 94. Had tickets for all the first round games in DC. Unfortunately, rather than seeing England I had to watch Norway instead. Still, a chap with initials JAF warmed up right in front of me in the first game, but unfortunately stayed on the subs bench. Still, I was befriended by a bunch of Norge's who liked my STFC shirt!

I think only one stand was open, so maybe they were kind of crammed.

Maybe they were all trying hard to pass exams?

Ricky shakes = target man upfront  :o .

We'd been playing him out of position while he was with us.

JPT Rules -

quote
Clubs have also made a renewed commitment to fielding full-strength teams throughout the Johnstone's Paint Trophy. Under the competition's rules, clubs will be required to include in their matchday line-up a majority of the 11 players that have appeared most often in first team games this season.

unquote

Sturrocks comments in the programme :

'There are lucrative financial returns for getting to the latter stages and we will be making a real effort to do all we ca in the JPT'

Then makes 11 changes !!!  :D

I believe last year that a team won through in the JPT, and made 6 changes and still got fined by the FL, so a fine is probably coming our way.

By the way, Brentford, who played their first team were crap, and after Arrieta equalised, there was only one team in it. We could've won 7-1.

My views

Brez - didn't have much to do but did 99% of it well. Made one 'mistake' when trying to punch but got away with it as the ref ave a foul. 7/10

Tozer - Off the pace tonight. 5/10

Blackburn - Solid, didn't  do anything wrong, scored 2. 8/10

Almeida - good performance but a mystery why we need another centre back. 7/10.

Kennedy - Is this his first start. Looked useful if not 1st team ready. 6/10

JPM - Not super quick, just super accurate. Quality deliveries 9/10.

Allen - Did pretty well for a young un. - 7/10.

Comminges - Mixed bag but hard working and lively - 7/10

Cox - lively and a promising start. Needs to be more clinical. 7/10

Arietta - wonder goal aside worked hard and made some good passes (though I see others dissagree) 7/10

The Prophet - Game stepped up a gear when he came on. Looked a threat 7/10.

Mini Review (condensed)
---------------
Brentford had the ball a lot but were largely as threatening as rice pudding. Shakes played up front and took his goal well. After that he was just Shakes.

We created most of the chances and had greater quality by far. John-Paul McGovern has the ability to put the ball exactly where he wants it. He will be an asset to this club make no mistake.

Brentford are by far the worst team I've seen in a long time.

We only looked so good because they were fucking shit. Still enjoyed the game thoroughly though.

Batch missed out Adams from his list, who I thought was superb tonight. Broke up the play well, good passing and even got forwards once or twice.

JPM was different gravy with his set pieces. Some loon sat next to me said "He's not as good a crosser as Roberts". What a wanker, JPM set up all 4 goals.

booing shakes was dumb, but funny. still booing heywood is also dumb.

from batch's mini review the only thing i've take issue with would be tozer. i thought he was better than the mark given.

oh and the fact he missed out adams

As I said to my old man, Him scoring and us winning was the perfect result, I hope he gets a long term deal there as he may lack quality but is 100%er and just wants to play football

As for tonight well it was a pretty boring game tbh. We didn't really play that well although we weren't awful. We finally woke up after the 3rd goal (yes Brentford were that bad) and we could have scored 5 or 6 easily. Great goal from Arrieta. JP looked very good as well.

He is not threat and will never be

FFS give the lad a fucking break

Not fair on the lad

Agree with Sam, we only looked good because they were so shit.

I'd sooner pay to watch paint dry than paint pot trophy games as bad as that. Aside from the wonder goal and the final 20 minutes or so, there was nothing much going on. Hoof, hoof and more hoof.

Defence looked a little lost on occassion but did better once they got into the game.

Didn't use the midfield through the middle at all until near the end. When the wingers got involved looked useful.

Strikers looked a threat. Didn't have too much support at times, but I thought made some useful runs which caused problems. Arrieta worked his bollocks off. Think they also stood out a lot becuase their defence was so poor. Mohammed looked really useful once he came on.

Boring game

Brentford were aweful, and we didn't exactly dominate but then what do you expect with a team full of reserves and youth team players!

Everybody did ok tonight really, special mentions for JPM, Blackburn, Arrieta and Adams though!

Bring on Sunday  :D

I Sturrock's post match interview he was asked about the new signing and said he had been signed and there would be a press conf in the next few days, he was asked about the goal keeping coach and said there would be a press conf in the next few days, he was asked about the fitness coach and said there would be a press conf in the next few days.....he is going to have a meeting today with Little and it will take 2-3 hours to get thorugfh everything Sturrock needs to discuss.

He also commented that Arieta is a goal scorer but his build up play is not good enough yet as he is not used to english football, and there was a technicality with the paperwork for the other guys deal so they hope to have it sorted by Sat.

He didn't sound his usual self though, he did sound quite down I thought.

Portuguese CB from Benfica.

Not quite Benfica!

Started his career at Porto which is nearly as good!

He left Stanley at the end of the season

Played for Swindon in a recent reseve game at Yeovil and looked comfortable if a little clumsy, looked a bit overweight and was unnattached which is why we were able to sign him and play him.

Adams - Looked short of full fitness. Struggled early on but came into the game more as it went on. Can't judge him as a player until he has had a few more consecutive 90 minutes. 6/10

Fair enough, we'll have to disagree. I am far from writing him off as a player though, he's only 17 an I suspect a few more starts with the big boys and he'll come good.
