i've been reading the wikipedia page on sturrock and come across some interesting bits of trivia (citation needed, obv). stop me if you've heard these already...

he was a non-playing member of the scottish "espana 82" world cup squad, and played twice for scotland in "mexico 86".

further to this, he scored 3 international goals in 20 apperances.

his middle name is "whitehead".

he will be 51 on october 10th.

he scored over 100 goals for dundee united in a 15 year, one-club career.

he is joint holder of the record for most goals in a scottish premier league fixture, with 5 goals (marco negri, kenny miller and kris boyd have also achieved this feat).

he won the scottish football writers' association player of the year award  in 1982. the winner the following year was charlie nicholas.

he is, apparently, one of the most qualified football coaches in europe, and assessed mourinho earlier in his career.

Quite a good way to sum it up I'd say.

Quite alot of scottish families use surnames as middle names rather than the english habit of having christian names as middle names.  I guess it's a way of keeping the mother's family surname alive.  That said my parents didn't bother giving me a middle name at all.  I think I might add "bullzeye" by deed poll

There was a brave but futile attempt to turn it into the marco negri thread but that was deflected by a tangential topic about grandads and complex family trees. Unfortunately the possibility of developing this into a thread about the most unusual or vindictive middle names (a la flachbart) was ignored. So, in an effort to rerail the thread, I ask those assembled here do you think Sturrock Jnr. is Blair Paul or Blair Whitehead or something else. If there is sufficient interest a poll could be created, even? Or maybe Bape knows?

Furthermore, I wonder how far back one would have to go to find the first tef member who is related to Paul W. Sturrock?
