Well Sturrock has made some decent signings, are we good enough to mount a challenge for the playoffs or higher now??? A bit of stability and no selling current players to sign these new players...

Also some positives

- The new board (whoever they are) splashing out some cash
- Not rubbish signings
- Three Year Contracts, offering stability
- No selling of players to bring new ones in (ie Brezovan)
- Sturrock will likely stay now as he got his targets!

I'm saying 6th - 12th final position.

Midtable. Whilst I think we have a good squad with enough cover, I think the killer instinct to finish off games is something we could lack, especially if some of our key players lose form or get injured.

If we learn fast then we could be up there with the best of them. Sturrock knows what he's doing and I've been impressed with the style of play.

The most important thing is that we don't go down.

I'm not getting carried away so ridiculously early. Mid-Table finish still for me.

How many points is it to guarantee not being relegated. Is it something like 55?

I still think mid-table. But i voted not sure as it's only 3 games in FFS! Let's see what happens in the next 2 months or so.

I think we will finish upper mid table. Maybe about 11th. Next season is the year we will be really pushing for promotion i think.

If we get a couple of top class loanees in we could push for a play-off place at best I reckon.

Mid-table finish for me - somewhere around 10th to 14th.  

I think if our new players settle quickly, and Paynter can bang in 15+ goals, we could push higher.  Just think play-offs are beyond us this season.

Overall the team looks stronger this season and seem to be playing the way Sturrock wants.

I'd like to think I am just being a bit more realistic. Four games in, unbeaten - shows we can hold our own in this league. As for play off material, we've let in 4 cracking goals, so it takes something special to score against us. That said, we can't put many away. Lest we forget we only just got the 3 points against Luton. As I've said elsewhere, if we learn fast and get the killer touch we could be up there with the best of them. However, if this takes another 5 or 6 games that could even be too late.

We've really got to act fast if we're going to beat the likes of Hartlepool or Yeovil who are proving to be the real play off contenders thus far.

Agree about Hartlepool, but Yeovil? They're one point in front of us, have the same problem we've been experiencing, ie lack of a goal scorer and are defensively more fragile than us.

If we lose to them Sunday I'm going to get so much shit from them, I've got 4 bets on us down my local :(

We'll see. I hope I am proved wrong, as this really isn't about who is going to be right. Anyway, I think mid-table isn't being a doom merchant. I think most people would have found that more than acceptable before the start of the season.

I'm loving the style of play now compared to what Wise had us doing. In League 2 it seems you can get away with not scoring many as long as you have a water-tight defence. I think under Sturrocks play things hinge on converting those chances. If you don't then all the work is in vain really.

I'd be happy with mid-table, but it's understandable that expectations are raised with good performances and new signings.

We've looked good (apart from upfront) on the whole and with the addition of new strikers and the return of Corr, hopefully we'll begin to convert the chances we're making.

Totally agree about the way we're playing this season under Sturrock, last year I think he continued with Wise's tactics to an extent, because he had to. But now, with players he wanted and the pre season to drill them, I think we're seeing a real Sturrock team.

Early results and new signings show that we should definitely be able to hold our own.  (Also shows how important getting out of League 2 was.  Never should have been there.)

I'd be happy with a flirtation with the play off places this year.  We should at least be aiming for that.  But I think I would also be happy with a solid mid table performance.  If that goes to plan (and off the field matter are resolved successfully) we should realistically be looking at a promotion push in 2008/09.

I think Luggy's target will be play off's. I also think he'd be a bit dissappointed if we didn't make it, and given a decent run I think we should do it.

A couple of serious injuries to key players might bugger us up, but otherwise I think we should be in with a shout.

Safely snuggled in mid table, and depending on January we might hold hopes of a play off spot until late in the season just to keep it interesting.  My original prediction, based on our starting squad was 18th, but I think with the new additions adding a bit of competition and possibly some better crossing, we can improve on that.

The realistic side of me keeps reminding me we have drawn 3 games against teams I would have put down for fighting relegation this season, the positve side is we beat the one who should be challenging.

Hard to beat, low scoring etc etc.

I reckon around 12th would be likely given what I have now seen and the prospect of improvement.  That would be a great position given 2005/06 and how little time has passed and how little off the field stability we've had.

To be honest I'm just releived that thus far we have looked like we can hold our own in this league.  we haven't played the world beaters, but Luton and Crewe are not exactly shit.

How well we do will hinge on the obvious, i.e. how well Paynter, Cox and the Corr find the net. If they click playoffs are an outside possibility.

It is very early days just yet though.

Out of interest to this debate, here's a Crewe view of Saturday's events taken from Rivals

Crewe really didn't look like scoring after that. Some of the crosses into the box looked half-decent, but Pope never looked particularly threatening and I am still thoroughly unconvinced by Shaun Miller.

Swindon were poor in the second half, easily the worst team we have come across so far, and they will probably end up in the relegation mix-up.

I'm obviously biased, but that is total shite imho.

I don't think we played as well as we could, but every newspaper report I read on the game said we dominated and deserved the 3 points.

I only posted it because it provides a different perspective......I assume ,"he", wasn't too impressed by his own team.   Don't forget Crewe fans have been treated to some decent  football over the years....I can recall us getting mullered by the Dean Ashton Rob Hulse duo 3 or 4 years back and a Danny Murphy, Seth Johnson midfield partnership giving us the run around a bit before that.

Lowe got into trub with the law for dealing coke.....he got off on some technicality.
