Title: Glastonbury...
Post by: Dazzza on Friday, April 1, 2005, 21:52:27
Tickets on sale Sunday 9AM  , likely to sell out in a couple of hours.

Anyone going?

Rounded up 5 confirmed with a possible 5 more due to decide over the weekend.

Going to be a bastard to get up that early Sunday with stinking hangover, may not go to bed.  On top of that just to make it even worse it's a max of 2 tickets each with holders named on each.

Anyway hoping to rent a motorhome anyone got any suggestions where to get one on the cheap?

When did you go Yeovil?

Been reading the guide and apparently "the wall" is supposed to keep out a lot of the army of Rob.

Sounds even better than I had thought almost Full moon party atmosphere, cannot wait.

Tickets can take hours to get though so I'm not looking forward to that one.

Years ago Daz, been a few times at a guess id say some time between 89-96 I think i ve been 4 times  but that may be wrong it could be 3 .The memory is shot. Its top fun just take nothing you want to keep, its probably less full of scallies these days because the security is much tighter getting in.

Official ticket website:
http://www.aloud.com/
Ticket hotline:
0870 165 2005

I don't fancy my chances of getting a ticket this year, got an hour and a half of intensive calling before I've gotta be at work!
Went in '99 and '00 when you could gather a big group of mates and all get tickets together.. these days you're lucky if you know someone else with a ticket. Shame really, it's a fucking good laugh!

I'll be going hopefully. Me & the Mrs and 2 other couples have shown interest, remains to be seen if they can haul their arses out of bed though.

Having man-flu this week might be something of a blessing for me, for the first sunday in ages I'm not gonna be hungover.

We're going to go next year, no one got sorted out in time this year. Pissed off with that because this could be the best year musically for ages.

Post by: Dazzza on Saturday, April 2, 2005, 16:37:30
I have reading the old official Glasto forums and last year it took some people over 24hrs of calling and refreshing on the web page to get anything.

Don't know if I will have the patience but having read some of the stories and the like it's a must do.

Scrapped the camper idea as you are outside the gates, have a trek every morning to get in, queue at the gates and the place by all accounts can be a tad souless.  Camping it is then.

Going to have a long shot at getting one of the trailers at http://www.lostvagueness.com/  looks very mad but would be a quality place to stay.

They will accept passports but advise against it, which doesn't have any address on.

That said I suppose if you have a passport you have gone through a load of checks and verification anyway.

Take it everyone’s camping?

Scrapped the motor home idea off the field is outside the gates and you have a massive trek and queue to get in every morning, that and the atmosphere is supposed to be nowhere near as good as the camping bit

Going to arrive Wednesday as well apparently there is shed loads going on and Weds/Thurs can sometimes be the best nights for non-music shenanigans.  That and you get prime pick of tent spot.

Dazza and Piemonte I still don't have an email.. I got through late, but I'm still worrying about the ease of it all. But If it's all gone tits up and I don't get to go then I will give you bits of advice at some point. Not that I'm a major goer, but twice in recent years and it's changed a bit since yoevil red wasn'nt an oap.

Camp wise it's not about the massive campidge area, theres fuck all chance you will find you tent for a start. If you get there wed then you have to camp on the field opposite the pyramid stage. But don't do the amatuer near the toilets or near a main path cos it's not worth the effort. Well thats ben's wisdom from 2 glasto's, I'm sure there are people on tte.com who have been to more but I hope my         glimpses of wisdom will help people out anyway. Oh yeah If your by your self... Small tent, easier to keep warm. good sleeping bag helps as well.

Post by: Reg Smeeton on Sunday, April 3, 2005, 19:40:24
When I used to go, in the 70's and 80's. it was a case of turn up on the day, take as little as possible other than a sleeping bag and some cash.....bump into someone you knew who might have a tent.....I recall a happy chance when it was 4 birds, get wrecked  and hitch back to Swindon.

Depends (and bear in mind I went ages ago) food and beer there are expensive as fuck.So if you take plenty of Booze/Drugs/Food you will be ok.Obviously you will only need 2 out of those 3 things as who needs food if they have drugs?

Old thread dig up but is anyone off to Glasto this week?

Got all the gear ready and praying the weather holds out.  Early indications look ok(ish)  but certainly not counting chickens in that respect.

Not much to twitch the trouser tent in terms of line-up but I'm hoping the poor ticket sales and lack of 'big names' should make for a different experience this year and less of a squeeze mooching about.

I'll have to remember Mex's advice this year and take a blade to slash a few hippies (if there's any left) up at the Stone Circle.

Nice one Bennett any acts you're wanting to catch in particular?

If you're as lazy as some of my lot are then you can order all your gear from Joe Bananas online and pick it up on site from 8am Wednesday.

Valid point but it's obviously not the case for many, many people.

My missus' dad went to the first Pilton Pop Festival and they gave out a free pint of milk  :D

First ever band to play Glastonbury? Stackridge (from the back of a truck)

Jay-Zzzzzzzzzz can fuck right off, terrible line up this year, not only that crack dealing bastard but The Kings of Leon not a bad band but still a bunch of queers not fit ti ehadline Glasto.

And The Verve, again used to be a great band, bu I saw them last winter on their return and they were dredfull the old magic wasn't there.

Unkle are about the only act I would now go out and pay to see, I have no interest in any of the other acts.

whats fucking wrong with you all, most of you are young, get in your fucking cars or hitch or get a train bunk the fence and go and take some acid saturday night then see if you give a fuck about jay z.

Funny that Glasto was originally an alternative to the commercial festivals taking place in late 60's/70's and now it turned into the mother of commercial events.

In 1992 it cost £49 to get in, now it's over £150, even though double the number of people will attend.  Absolute money spinner.

Maybe someone needs to set up an alternative to this BBC music festival.

I am a boring - I don't take drugs and don't really drink that much and really don't care for doing anything other than watching live music whilst attending festivals.

There are plenty of bands on the Glastonbury bill (big acts and small) that I'd happily see - I guess my point is that for all the might and mystique of Eavisfest I find the line-up disappointing and that is reflected by the fact that they couldn't sell it out in quick time (that'll probably benefit those going).

But I agree with all the comments about people moaning for the sake of moaning.

Oh and nothing can be worse than what the Reading Festival has become - full of posh kids celebrating finished their GCSE's and general whacky funsters.

Jay Z wasn't particularly good.(IMHO). Most of the crowd were just intent on having a good time despite him being on stage & were only there to see what all the fuss was about.
The Verve were awesome, best set of the festival by a mile & second only to Roger Walters a few years back.
Amy Winehose was visibly falling apart.
Subways were excellent as was Duffy who looked stunning. Wanted to see the Ting Tings, but couldn't get near it so only heard them.
The best night for me tho' was Friday, when we just wandered about the site looking in on the smaller stages, meeting all types in all sorts of weird & wonderfull places & just taking in the wonderful vibe of the place.

That certainly didn't help, & they didn't have the experience/ presence to deal with it. Some acts did deal with it.

Sound was ceratinly much improved this year at  the Pyramid (Except when windy & half way through Neil Diamond  :soapy tit wank: ), but needed improving at the Other stage.

It's a 5 day long party with thousands getting trashed & virtually nil violence or hassle. Sure their were 130 arrests for theft & the like, but how many arrests would you expect over 5 days of 140,000 (A town about the size of Swindon) getting smashed.  Even the cops joined in, I saw 3 on horses wearing those frilly pink balerina type skirts & a yellow sunflower in their helmets !

There were a few stag parties there that I saw. The problem I would see for most years is ticket availability.  Not a problem this year but would have been in previous years & I suspect next year.

Anybody suffering from post-glasto depression? I used to always get that. Well after the relief of a brilliant nice shower anyway.

Big time.  Probably last night was the worst as I was travelling home most of Monday and had the feel good shower and food factor to take the edge off.

The past couple 05 and 07 weren’t to bad on the come down as the whole site was a shit state of affairs (literally in some parts) and after a few days up to your shins in stinking filth as the Verve sang not even the drugs don’t work!  All in all though I was ready to come home from those two but given the weather this year I could have done another week.

That said I’m not too bad today.  Back at work and keeping bust and off to watch Big Willie’s latest flick tonight at the cinema.

I think it’ll be a battle for tickets once again as they look to be going back to more traditional headliners and I think a lot of people that stayed away having seen the footage now regret it.

Out of interest did anyone else use the Orange Glasto Nav application?

 I read about that....fuck me it's a modern world.

I always thought we were given a kind of homing instinct at birth, that however out of the head you get, you can always find your way back to what is even a temporary home.

Did it work. Like could you home in on where your mates were. We stuck to a pirates flag.

It wasn't quite as good as a fucking great flag but it was useful to see the line ups on different stages and you could send your mate a location on the map to get to, which is quite handy.

The news also included all of the secret gigs.  It's a cracking application, very simple to use and effective at the same time.

Franz Ferdinand at the Park I think.  A couple of bands again a bit hazy played the chill and charge butt hey were already on the bill.

To be honest you didn't miss much this year but worth having for next year.
