Title: Next Home Game - Collection for Puerta's family? Post by: thedarkprince on Wednesday, August 29, 2007, 16:37:08 Anyone think the club or the Trust should organise a collection for Antonio Puerta's family at the Crewe game?
Just thinking that a few people going round with buckets before, during and after the match could potentially generate a nice tidy sum for his devastated family. Remember the poor bloke's girlfirend is due to give birth to his first child next month.... she could probably do with all the help she can get at this difficult time. Title: Next Home Game - Collection for Puerta's family? Post by: STFC_Gazzza on Wednesday, August 29, 2007, 16:42:36 Don't mean to sound disrespectful but I would rather raise money for the family of Ray Jones of QPR who was killed in a car crash last weekend.

He was the Sevilla player who collapsed during one of their matches and then suffered multiple heart attacks in the dressing room. Died yesterday after a fifth attack. That would be an equally good call. Title: Next Home Game - Collection for Puerta's family? Post by: yeo on Wednesday, August 29, 2007, 16:49:12 I see.
I expect he had life insurance,at the risk of being insensitive people die all the time and its always sad for the families etc but why have a collection for this guy? Title: Next Home Game - Collection for Puerta's family? Post by: Simon Pieman on Wednesday, August 29, 2007, 16:50:32 I think it would be better to raise it for a heart charity. It might mean more to some people and would mean a lot to the family too.

With respect, I don't think that's within the Trust's remit..? Title: Next Home Game - Collection for Puerta's family? Post by: Spud on Wednesday, August 29, 2007, 17:27:31 No disrespect but i would expect that Sevilla themselves would make sure that Puerta's family are financially sound, or i hope they would.

I dont mean to sound harsh, but sensibly driven cars dont crash into double decker buses, killing everybody inside. Title: Re: Next Home Game - Collection for Puerta's family? Post by: OOH! Title: Next Home Game - Collection for Puerta's family? Post by: Bundhi on Wednesday, August 29, 2007, 21:20:14 Puerta was one of Sevillas best players and a spanish international, and u would have thought a millionaire by now, his family like someone said wud be looked afta by Sevilla anyway. What about the lad from Walsall? he was sixteen, would have thought his family are no better off than any of us, why not do it for someone who needs it

Title: Next Home Game - Collection for Puerta's family? Post by: reeves4england on Wednesday, August 29, 2007, 21:30:45 I think it would be a bit pointless raising money for his family. He must have been on a decent sum at Sevilla and without wanting to sound insensitive, what the hell has it got to do with STFC?
I agree that the Walsall player would be a more worthy cause, but would argue that that one should be left to Walsall themselves Title: Next Home Game - Collection for Puerta's family? Post by: wheretherealredsare on Wednesday, August 29, 2007, 21:59:13 If as individuals people want to donate something then they could either contact Walsall and ask if they have a fund, or make a donation to a charity like The British Heart Foundation.
There were a couple of longstanding STFC fans who passed away suddenly last season. All of us sympathised, and our thoughts went to the families. But was there an appeal? Whether there should or should not have been, the point is because the tragedy is of a higher profile, and one of several recently, that doesn't mean an appeal for someone comparatively distant from us is the way to go. |
