Post by: strooood on Wednesday, August 22, 2007, 20:40:19
quality game, havent been entertained this much by england for ages...

all in all its been a quality performance and we've been creating chance after chance, very weakened line-ups for both but still, very encouraging in terms of qualifying chances for angleterre...

for the record i recon crouch will bag one in the next 10 minutes and it'll end 2-2

Are you a German by any chance, how can it be entertaining to see Germany beat us at any game, especially football, its our bloody national game.

Anyone for a good game of footie, its the taking part that counts, does it fuck you tart.

Its all about winning, especially if its Englans v Germany - wanker.

barry was ace when he came on, no qualms with that one.
brown on at right back meaning micah moved in was strange...especially as he'll have seen brown before and he had taylor on the bench.
dyer is just shite

on the upside atleast we didn't bring on any strikers other than crouch when we were chasing the game

I have to say I'm going off footie, just a bit.  My mate went tonight and said that pre-match england fans were going to hold up cards with "danke" on them to show the gerries how grateful you were for them hosting the world cup.

WTF is that all about?  They're meant to be your effin rivals.  Whatever next, next time Oxford come down to the CG shall we make sure we thank them for letting Beauchamp join West Ham so he could then join us?

Whatever happened to decent footballling rivalries?  The whole thing is getting way too family orientated.

And another thing the New Wembley is crap, it's about as intimadating as Adams Park, Wycombe (or whatever it's called nowadays).

Not enough fire power. We would have won that if Shearer was still playing

Alan Smith isnt good enough
Peter Crouch isnt good enough
Kieron Dyer isnt a striker
Michael Owen is unfit and pretty much past it.

We dont score enough goals, even with Jens Lemon trying to give us some.

Back in the day England used to have a mass amount of talent upfront - Shearer, Sheringham, Fowler, Wright & Cole etc all top scorers for their club all played week in and week out.

i dunno about you but how many times have you watched england and thought fuck me what a waste of time. i've followed england to their last 2 tournaments and more often than not it's boring as fuck and we lose.

tonight i thought we played well, players like lampard and wright phillips who have more often than not, looked shit for england, look exciting and actually make stuff happen, if it wasnt for robinson being an idiot we might not have conceded all night as we were completely on top at that point and germany weren't threatening in the slightest.

but its alright, i dont mind, get your nose back in your newspaper and come back when you've memorised it.

And that is what is making it so boring.  From what I remember (the late) 1980's England weren't that good to watch, but least there was a decent atmosphere to accompany the match.  Nowadays the crowd hardly get into the game unless their team are flying.

WTF england Germany???  Doesn't mean much??  My God Dave what's up with you?  Next you'll be saying you don't care about playing Scotland, Wales, Ireland, France.

That's the problem, countries like Scotland, Germany, France all do their utmost to put one over on england (which is why Scotland have a pretty decent record against england) and you have a "to be honest we don;t really consider you rivals..."

I'm glad I've been brought up to support Scotland, fair enough we may never win a championship or even get close, but those wins against particular countries feel so good when they do happen.

Okay it's a bit disapoointing to lose to Germany but I think people are going way too far in both directions here.

I'd say Stropood has a bit of a rose-tinted view of the game, but you have to agree that Richards, Terry, Lampard, Cole and Wright-Philips all had decent games. I'd say Ferdinand, Beckham and Smith did their jobs too.

As for people going crazy about the game being boring, had it not been for one error from Robinson the chances are it would have been a completely different game. England were massively on top and looking good value for their lead .

On the whole, yes it was frustrating to see us start so well and then fall apart for no reason. However I think that is partly due to the stupid pressure put on playersw by the media, and by the fans who turn up just to complain about the mistakes. Save the complaints until tyhe qualifiers, they are what really count. If we don't get 6 points from the next two games, even with our depleted squad it will THEN be time to ask the serious questions.

The fact it takes them until injury time to take their seats shows the problem.  To be fair to the rest, watching England is a pretty soul sapping past time these days.  No pace to the games, no tackles anymore (how many juicy tackles do we see now?), a central midfield that at times as made cardboard seem inspiring and goalkeepers who seem to turn into school kids when they get the chance to play for England.

Tonights game started well before gradually slipping into the same pattern as every other one for go knows how long.  The positive that could be taken is that we still created chances tonight, something that can't always be said.  Shame we can't clone Richards.

What gets me the most is the interviews with people like Beckham and John Terry after the game.  They were both happy with the first 20 minutes then said "we just sat back" like it was something outside of their control.  Why the fuck did you sit back????? weren't you on the pitch and able to do something about it FFS. OK so the goalie gifting them a goal gets players pissed off but that's when you get back down the other end and shove the pressure on, not slow the game down.  Second half substitutions baffled me - why didn't Wright-Phillips replace Beckham? Why put Dyer on up front when Defoe's on the bench, particularly when he goes and misses 2 sitters.

I'd agree with that, but I found it surprising to watch a professional team 'lose its shape' so often. Think that was an absolute disgrace to watch. They did create chances, but imho didn't look like scoring again in a month of Sundays.

It may just be me but I cant see us qualifying for  Euro 2008. You look at the success of the Under 21's and I think we should start giving them senior team experience to make a run at qualifying for the World Cup. Whilst I appreciate we are at home for most of our last Euro 2008 qualifiers I can't see us qualifying. We have only won 2 in our last 9.  :x Same Old England really. take the lead and try and protect the 1-0 lead. BRING BACK SVEN! Atleast we qualified and quite comfortably under him. WE WOULD also score more than one goal.

"When Lampard scored you thought to yourself we can go on and get 4 or 5 here"

"We should be doing better, we've got the best 5 or 6 forwards in the world"

It's knobjockey's like him who give england such a bad name.

Is it time to reassess Graham Taylors virtues as England Manager?

We need to accept England are not very good. Its the media who hypes us up. We keep relying on the same old players instead of bringing in the younger players who are the future!

There is no point playing Beckham in a friendly like this. We know what he can do, he's been out injured, and he has to fly miles.

Robinson was a clown for the goal 1st goal, but Owen's open goal miss cost us just as much. They both cost us a goal.

I'm fed up of McLaren bringing people into the squad, only for them to sit on the bench in the hope of getting 10 minutes at the end.

The German fans were great "Ve von ze last game at Vembley!" was rather amusing in a way.

Playing one up front, at home, 1 goal down is wrong...

Look at what Taylor had to play with and although some of his tactical decisions may have been wrong, he didn't really have a lot of choice in the matter.

Yet another example of the media turning a manager into a laughing stock.

If all the players were fit, on paper we would have a superb team

James
Richards
Ferdinand
Terry
A Cole
Beckham
Gerrard
Hargreaves
SWPhillips
Rooney
Owen/bent/johnson/defoe/ashton (take your pick)

but it is the manager that calls the shots and makes the tactical decisions and unfortunately Mclaren is not that man , the annoying thing is that we could fail to qualify before they sack him

although, maybe now that we are generally accepted as being shit, it'll lose it's appeal to the "i love footie" brigade.

errrr dell, its not 1942 anymore. As far as im concerned  england-germany is no more of a derby than england-latvia. The germans ain't done nothing to us for a while now, don't see nothing to get too angry about tbh.

Try telling that to old twits of my age and the generation before us.
Enough said I think, could go on about this all night but as usual I would only bore everyone to death so time to sign off.

I dislike the scots welsh and irish football teams because they're local, and need to be put back in their place. I dislike the french because they're arrogant and local, and i hate the argentines because their behaviour is disgracefull. But i couldn;t really care about germany much. They aint local, they've done nothing wrong in my lifetime, and nothing wrong in the lifetime of most people on here. The only thing to get wound up about is their annoying efficiency.

Admit it dave, you hate Jerry just like everyone else does. I've always found the rivalry strange because it is very one-sided and it seems the only qualms they have with us is how we seem to constantly remind them of the war. They pretty much get taught at school to be ashamed to be German and I found even the slightest mention of the war makes them feel really awkward and ashamed.

Fuck 'em though, they steal all the sun beds!

No, i seriously dont! Historys history, and as a country we're hardly whiter than white.

Like i said, the only gripe i have with teh germans is their unnerving efficiency, and lack of humour. And they always beat us on penaltys!

The problem is that English players are world class in only two areas, picking up their wages and arrogance. We have a captain who was at fault for the 2nd goal and who hasn't even proved he's made the step up to international class. Ferdinand switches off in games. Dyer is an absolute cock. Owen is trading on former glories. Beckham was out of it in the second half when Micah Richards was no longer his legs. We have a manager who's a bloody Scummer. His substitutions were cack - why didn't he put SWP on the right and bring Barry on wide left. James FFS - whats that all about.
Basically, England are a shambles and as much as I'd like them to be a good team, they ain't. They are a collection of individuals, some of whom think they are bigger than the Enlgand team.

no fucking suprise, considering he had to fly over from the states and wasn't even fully fit.

Well both of those two players did ok when they came on, especially swp.

James FFS - whats that all about.

The first 20 minutes were promising...  Ultimately it's a friendly.  England will come good, the squad we have is too good to consistently underachieve.  Germany did not deserve to win, and I think won because England looked a tad rusty....

The England players arent as good as the media would have you believe.

Frank Lampard gets talked about, as being the best most dangerous attacking midfielder in the world. He plays for one of the big 4 and gets a good amount of goals each season because he takes penalties. The 'report' offers Chelsea get for him go close to about 30 millions

He got totally out shone by Thomas Hitlzberger, that no name no mark midfielder than used to play for Aston Villa who's only attribute was the ability to kick the ball hard with his left foot. In the end they sold him for about 2 million

....
