I was looking on Charltons message boards and although I can't find any threads on how they think they'll get on, they were talking about how bad the weather is due to be and how the Stratton Bank has no cover!

Reminds me of when Wednesday fans got soaked when we beat them 3-2 coming from 2 goals down with 15 mins to go.  :D

That's actually against the rules. Sorry to disappoint you.

I think we'll lose but we'll put up a fight. Tmorrow our team is likely to consist of people who need to impress to get into the first XI so they will give it a real go. Hope Charlton fans get soaked...unless I've been moved to the front of the Arkell's, cos then I'd get wet too  :(

I just checked and it seems I was wrong! You can score directly from a goal kick, but not into your own goal - in which instance the kick is retaken

Post by: Iffy's Onion Bhaji on Tuesday, August 14, 2007, 21:20:15
Thought we were poor today. I didn't expect us to win really but we didn't play well, especially in the second half. We didn't create much and once Roberts went off we were never going to score. Thought Easton looked ok as did Aljofree. Brez played well and showed some signs of old.

Title: Predictions for Charlton
Post by: Batch on Tuesday, August 14, 2007, 21:26:31
Why did he take Roberts off t 1-0? To rest him for Saturday? Easily our best player tonight. Wank substitution.

Zaboub was dogshit.

Tozer looked out of his depth in the first half. Came into it in the second half.

Why keep Sturrock on the pitch so long. It would have been nice to see Arieta for longer. We know what Blair can do.

No Blackburn or the Prophet. Thought that strange.

Easton did OK, didn't rate Adams that much but he is still gaining match sharpness. Didn't like that pairing though, no attacking flair.

Played alright in patches, should have scored at least one, particualrily in the first half. Charlton controlled the second half but we had a couple of half chances.

Meh. First half we were probably the better of the two sides, second half charlton stepped up a gear and we looked lost in the final third.

Referee was a bit of a tosspot.

Young tozer did ok i thought, commingess showed some nice touches one moment, then looked absolute gash the next.

Izale Mcleod wins a dodgy lookng penalty, suprise suprise  :-))(

Can't be too disheartened, we certainley didn't embarress ourselves, just proved we need more imagination in the final third

We played well today I thought, some of the passing was superb. We we are really toothless in the final third and despite some neat passing we just have no cutting edge.

Pook seems a bit sharper, and I was really impressed with Easton. Peacock gave the ball away far too often.

Aljofree looks a very, very good signing.

Taking some positives from the game, I thought Jack Smith did well especially towards the end, Aljofree looked good and Brez was solid.

Roberts was doing well until he got subbed off, certainly looked our most potent threat going forward.

At least it was a good competitive run-out prior to a potentially very hard game against Luton - last time they were here Fallon scored a cracking own goal.

Pook didn't look that bad.. Did a few good things. Was dissapointed with Minge.

However (I may get stick for saying this), but Sturrock must have given Roberts a huge kick up the arse pre season because he's looking fucking good at the moment. We lost the plot a bit when he went off.

I was impressed with some of our passing though. Despite what some say, I rate Adams and Easton really impressed me today aswell.

Roberts was our out ball all night, then we took him off and got penned in our own half.

roberts was quality, then for some reason sturrock swapped him with comminges, thought that was very odd, as comminges looked wank after that, although saying that i recon once he's bedded in he'll be a class act.

zaaboub looked crud, shame.

tozer looked able with both feet but seemed totally incapable of playing the simple ball, instead choosing to spank it over the top to sturrock.... who is shit.

considering peacock is now a central midfeilder therefore 'makeshift' up top, that surely renders sturrock our first choice striker while corr is out. that's very worrying... we looked almost totally devoid of ideas in the final third throughout and i really couldnt see where a goal could come from.

main positives for me was steve adams (my MOM) and aljofree who was superb tonight.

What the hell did Sturrock say to them at half time, we got worse and worse as the game went on.

Once Charlton took the lead we clearly had no interest in winning the game and took off our only player who looked capable of doing something which wasnt hoofing it up the field.

First half was good, second half wasnt

The best moment of the night for me was when Charlton played the ball back to Weaver and as he kicked it some bloke behind me yelled 'Shouldn't you be cutting hair?'

I found it  :soapy tit wank: at the time.

Did you really think Adams was MOM?? I thought he was poor 2 be honest, liked the look of Easton tho. Aljofreeeee looked good as well.

Comminges was poor, especially once he'd been booked.

Roberts i agree looks like he has a desire to play again, looks in the mood, cracking balls, shame we have no striker to nod them in...

brez - much of a muchness

smith - muchly much of a muchness
ifil - caught out of position a couple of times, something i thought he had eradicated from his game
aljofree - a footballing centre-back, not much use in league one but had a good game. may struggle against more physical sides.
tozer - played well, although looked a little lost at times.

roberts - finally showing the sort of form that we saw when he first signed. sublime.
adams - effective, good in the tackle, works hard.
easton - anonymous.
comminges - woeful, not interested in taking players on, terrible crosses.

sturrock - nothing needs to be said.
peacock - looks like a central midfielder trying to play up front. not good. why did he keep moaning at gesticulating at his teammates? it was like watching igoe again.

arrieta - oh...
zaaboub - lively but mostly ineffective.
pook - touch of a rapist.

Why did he take Roberts off t 1-0? To rest him for Saturday? Easily our best player tonight. Wank substitution.

Totally agree - the only player with any creativity. After he went off, we didn't look remotely like scoring -  Wank substitution.

Why keep Sturrock on the pitch so long. It would have been nice to see Arieta for longer. We know what Blair can do.

We know what Sturrock CAN'T do - he was total crap; what's he supposed to offer - no touch, no control, can't pass, can't shoot, lazy, can't head to save his life, doesn't hold up the ball, didn't make any telling runs [apparently his trade-mark !!]. I rate Sturrock Snr as a manager, but if he continues to play his son - he's gonna lose all credibility. :( .

Easton did OK, didn't rate Adams that much but he is still gaining match sharpness. Didn't like that pairing though, no attacking flair.

Totally agree - Adams didnt impress, but Easton looked promising. Need mor creativity, but to be honest, can't see where the hell it's gonna come from !!

I thought Adams did a good job - just sat in front of the back four and soaked things up - we were difficult to break down and v organised, especially 1st half - and that was down to his positioning. 2nd half they came out and realised that the best way through us was down the wings, attacking Tozer (who did well for a kid) and to a lesser extent Jack Smith who got little cover in front of him.

I was expecting Easton to get on the ball more and be our playmaker - an Orient fan I know said he ran the game for them last year - but saw no sign of that at all. Hard working enough, just didn't see enough of it.

Dissapointed with Commingues, but he'll be learning. Aljofree looked the business.

We'll go down unless we sign some proven strikers - probably with the lowest goals conceded of any relelgated side

I though pre season was suppose to be finnished? That was a dull game.

If we dont score in the first 20 minutes against Luton we will loose again.

Title: Predictions for Charlton
Post by: magic8ball on Wednesday, August 15, 2007, 08:27:21
Personally, I think the reason people are having differing views over Adams and Easton is that they kind of look a little bit like eachother, and neither have lumionous pink boots, or a ridiculous haircut. Basically, I found it hard to say one was good/bad, but their definitely looked a hell of a lot more effective in midfield together than we have done for the last couple of seasons. Adams had a lovely left footed shot in the first half that went just over. The only issue is, neither will really run with the ball, so we are very dependant on the wingers.

Brez was good apart from one missed catch

Aljiofree was very good. Didn't look out of place against higher league opposition. Looked to bring down the ball when possible, and put his head in when necessary.

Ifil was quiet, didn't do anything too daft. Nice to see Aljiofree taking a bit of a leading role instead of Jerel.

Tozer poor in first half, but got better. Some poor distribution though.

Smith was ok.

Roberts was brilliant. I presume he was rested for the weekend when he was subbed.

Minge was pretty poor. He looked like he liked to run at a player against Exeter, but showed no signs of this and mainly punted the ball about 4 feet above Peacock, or attempted an outrageous cross-field ball that ended up at the feet of a Charlton player.

Sturrock. Terrible.

Peacock. Almost as bad.

In conclusion, we need a striker, and some more black players. Reid, Ambrose and Weaver were the only white guys they had. I hope thats not racist. Just an observation really.

Agree with you there, although I thought Easton looked a lot more composed than Adams and produced some very neat passes.

The Adver have rewritten the score
To be fair to Tozer he was playing out of position and their right winger was tricky and fast.  At least he could pass with both feet and trap the ball which was beyond Sturrock.  The Cock worked hard again but I wished Barry Corr had been on the end of the chances he had in the first half.  Roberts was quality, liked the look of Ifil and Aljofree in defence.  Didn't really notice Adams or Easton (apart from his shot) - we had our hands full coping with Charlton's movement and control in midfield. The Minge was good and bad and Jack Smith had a fine last 10 minutes but looked utterly indecisive for the rest of the game - why doesn't he read what Roberts is going to do and overlap more? .  A great double save from Brez more than made up for the dropped cross in the first half.  I didn't think the Boob was that bad - he provided a bit of a spark when Roberts had gone.

My marks ..

Brez 7 - some great point blank saves
Smith 5 - poor crosses
Tozer 6 - good enough for a youngster on debut
Aljofree 7 - looked a good reader of the game
Ifil 6 - didnt dominate as usual
Comminges 5 - didnt impress on debut unlike Sat as a sub
Easton 5 - pretty anonymous
Adams 5 - likewise
Roberts 8 - set up some great chances for the Cock looked up for it
Peacock 6 - worked hard but missed best chances
Sturrock 4 - looked unfit and very poor indeed

Subs - Pook 6 - never really got going but did more than Easton and Adams
Arrieta 5 - hardworking but ineffective
Zaaboub 4 - awful AGAIN! really out of sorts lately

He was starting to make me nervous whenever the ball went to him.  It seems to take him ages to make his mind up what he's going to do.  This might be because other players aren't giving him any options but I need a bit more convincing

Zaaboub was OK, makes some good runs but is a bit frustrating. I think him and Roberts have swapped bodies in pre-season.

Read the post properly.  I said last night, no mention of Saturday.

I still wouldn't have given him MOM Saturday anyway.

I think he looked terrible last night and Im certainly not changing that opinion for you or anyone else.

brez - Wasn't worked too hard but did make a few good stops and almost saved the penalty. Shame about that one missed cross

smith - I think he did okay, and the main reason he wasn't getting balls into the box was the lack of bodies in there to pick out
ifil - Fairly quiet but made a couple of important challenges
aljofree - Pretty solid
tozer - Had good and bad spells but did pretty well considering it was his first game

roberts - MOTM. Made runs, put (mostly) good balls into the box and would have been lethal if we had a decent striker for him to pick out
adams - Did a job quietly and effectively
easton - Same as Adams, they are quite solid as a partnership
comminges - Looked lively and exciting to start with but as soon as he got the card he faded

sturrock - Wank. Gash. Crap. Drop him now
peacock - Should have put us 1-0 up, was a bit out of sorts

arrieta - Need more time to judge his attacking abiulity but he certainly pressured the Charlton defence
zaaboub - Made a few good runs in a short space of time and I think people are being harsh on him
pook - Came on and gave the ball away on several occasions. Made one good touch to set up a shooting chance but taht was about it

Overall we did ok considering Charlton have some very good players. We probably edged it in the first half but there's no denying we looked completely lost up front, especialy towards the end. Hopefully the new investment will see that sorted out
