I honestly didn't think the commentary was that bad, especially for the first game. It was certainly no worse than Radio Swindon.

Bit difficult to express an opinion as after the 1st fifteen minutes (when Brunel forgot to turn off their own web sites radio feed) I was unable to listen to it.

My own fault for living a whopping fifteen miles from town I suppose!

i agree.

the summariser was a bit of a bumbling old oaf but the commentator was alright, certainly either knew his stuff or had done his homework.

The young lady on the touchline would have been ok if she knew what she was going to say and didn't make it obvious she was not sure what else to say when she had said her "important" bit.

Brunel was fine, needed a proper pre and post match thingy but but the commentary was completely fine and dare I say a bit better than BBCs.No haircut talk or useless factage suits me fine,Marie was alright as well, though she doesnt sound that happy sometimes.

I think some people are moaning because they are addicted to moaning.

As I see it the main problem was the "World" problem which probably isnt Brunels fault.

yeovil's right.

the problems with listening live on stfcworld are premiumtv's ongoing contiuning problems which have plagued the service for a year or two now. not brunel's fault whatsoever.

premiumtv have exclusive rights to broadcasting live commentary of all league matches over the internet, therefore neither the bbc or brunel are allowed to broadcast match commentary for these games. cup games and the such like are not part of this contract, so have been available on bbc online. there have been occasions in the past where the bbc have forgotten to turn off the live feed during matches but this is an anomaly.

marie did sound a bit grumpy, but i thought it might be nerves.

Listened to it on my radio and I thought it was bloody shocking... not a shade on BBC Radio Swindon and they cocked it up 5 minutes before the match too and put a song on  .

There was no pre-match hype for the first game of the season! God knows how they will hype up the next 45 games...

I think there is too much hype in modern football already, its the reason why i barely watch premiership games on tv anymore, its such utter bollocks.

Anyway fair play to Brunel for not giving a shit ,hey its what we're used to as fans being treated with utter contempt,i salute them.

Radio coverage for a league 1 outfit isn't exactly going to be top standard anyway - pretty amateur I'd guess.  I think some people have got expectations that are too high!

The commentary wasn't too bad from what I heard, certainly didn't sound as bad as people made out.

Some of the comments in the match were a little silly, like going on about how second half substitutions might make the team more effective (after about 20 minutes of first half played), but you get stuff like that with any commentator/pundit.

I had a fairly long chat when it was first announced Brunel would be taking over with Craig Rance about the problems it would cause non-Swindon based fans. Inevitably one of the areas that came up was that the STFCWorld coverage was not an adequate substitute as it is useless. And at the time he took great pains to explain to me that each and every one of the problems I described were down to the BBC being incompetent. So, what goes around, comes around, I guess Brunel will be just as happy to accept the blame for PTV being a bunch of idiots now they're on the receiving end - they were certainly quick enough to dish it out, now they've got all season to lap it up.

Those expectations are based on the standards set over previous seasons by the Beeb. Unfortunately, they should now be based on what we've come to expect from anything arranged by the board of STFC. However, it does appear that the club are getting involved in trying to improve matters according to the OS today. They even invite feedback! Credit where it's due.

In all honesty sonic, I've been listening to the commentary over STFCWorld for 4 seasons now, and they still have not solved any of the problems with the service that have plauged it from the outset. Now I'm paying for the privilege, I doubt I'll renew my subscription unless they offer me a significant discount. Problem is, I'll be lost without it (for the next 5 months anyway...)

Courtesy of slaggy on Rivals, free match highlights on Virgin...

http://www.football.virginmedia.com/page/leagueonevideo/0,,12555~1090026,00.html

If that service is available every week then it’s a tough decision to justify the service from STFC World.  We’re no the only ones a quick trawl of Saturday threads on other boards quickly highlights the overall reliability of the package.

Out of interest did anyone listen to the updates on the BBC on Saturday and is it a viable alternative to the moody links?

As my mates wanted to sit in the Intel/Nationwide/South/Kingswood Stand last night I decided to stay in the Arkells, watch the match and listen to the commentary.

Personally apart from the wind getting to the microphones and the unnecessary "touchline updates" every time there was a substitution where we're subjected to the giggling Marie I thought it was a pretty good effort.  Not really sure what she adds to the coverage.

It was good to hear what Alan Mac thought about the game and the cloud obsessed main commentator wasn't that bad.  I'll listen in again (mainly for away matches) but at least it sounded like theywere at a match, unlike the beeb's coverage where sometimes it sounded like theywere at a local cricket match.

I had a real knightmare last night was unable to go to the match so though would be the prefect chance to try out the new radio station! - Turned on Brunel FM when I left my circuit training class in Chippenham - managed to get it OK but it was a bit echoey but I could hear what was going on!- totally lost signal when I got out into Pewsham - got it back again at the top of Derry Hill - Lost it again in Bromham  :x

GREAT!!!

I thought it was poor at times to be honest.  Didin't like the commentators style at all, saved by Alan Mac.

The most irritating thing was the constant stream of obvious mistakes.  They changed the way you pronounce Comminges about 3 times, we had Bevozan in goal for a bit, we were trying to capitulate this season in League 1, Alan McDonald was doing the commentary, we had 3, no 4, no 3 players running forward, Brezovan dropped the ball and then the game clearly stopped for 30 seconds while the commentator had a chat.

Sorry, but for Macca it was poor stuff.  Marie was very pointless.

Having said all that it was at least making me chuckle during a defeat and maybe they can keep up the clangers even when they are a little more experienced, just for fun.

Not turning this personal because fair play to the girl for having a go, but for the commentator to have to "go down to our touch line reporter Marie" just for her to say

"Oh McLeod's not very popular **giggle**, he's being replaced by Iwelumo"

is pointless.  Maybe they should let her just give her opinion of how the match is going, how Sturrock seems, instead of giving us factual sub information updates.

Least an opnion would have some interest levels, even if you disagree with it.

Like I say Bushey I don't think it's her fault that her 30 secs "slot" is pointless.  If Brunel have said ok Marie we'll come over to you when there are substitutions and you tell us what's going on, what's she meant to do?

I don't think she's had any training as such, and she could do with cutting the giggles out, but I put that down to nerves.

I was expecting to switch off the radio last night during the match but I didn't think it was any worse than the Beeb.

I'm sure I would point out if someone on the Beeb had said "so will they be able to capitulate in league one this year?"  Maybe it was a serious question and not supposed to be consolidate.

I found it a little less informative than BBC and regardless of what her job is and how difficult it is etc, the slot with Marie is not worth airing.  It's not something that's going to make me switch off ultimately, and I do remember it being worse on GWR in the past for example.

she's an easy target because she's local and (relatively) normal.

it seems like a bit of laughable jealousy to be honest because she gets paid to go and watch swindon home and away and say a few words on t'radio.
