Post by: jayohaitchenn on Friday, August 10, 2007, 10:50:16 I've mostly been trying to define the nature of reality...
In other news scientists recently found the most compelling evidence yet for the existance of dark matter but examining it's effects on nearby objects. Apparently Hubble has detected a ring of dark matter that is bending light around itself due to immense gravitational forces and causing a far away galaxy to be visible in 5 different locations in the sky. Makes you think doesn't it? Title: Any thoughts? Post by: herthab on Friday, August 10, 2007, 10:52:09 Quote from: "jayohaitchenn" I've mostly been trying to define the nature of reality... Title: Any thoughts? Post by: flammableBen on Friday, August 10, 2007, 11:06:05 arriba, Get a curry.
jayohaitchenn, massive things bending light in space is indeed ace. As is light generally. Not only does it act like both a wave and a particle but it still moves relatively slowly compared to the size of the universe. It's the fastest you can go without some sort of new physics development which bends space-time or something. And even so it would still a year to get to our nearest neighbour star. By looking at things far away in space, you aren't so much as looking at things far away, but things billions of years ago. Reg Smeeton, I'm generally disappointed when going out for a quiet few turns out to be actually only having a quiet few. Good work. herthab, err.. bonfire? Not the cans though, recycle them. Samdy Gray, if you don't think you're blind the next day then you've failed. I've got work late. Which is a bit rubbish. Title: Any thoughts? Makes you think doesn't it? Not really........................... What not even a little bit? The fact that the universe is 85% made up of a sustance that is directly undetectable, that we cannot interact with at all, doesn't interest you in the slightest? A substance so important that with it the first stars would never have formed? A substance that is not only driving the expansion of universe, but is actually accelerating that expansion? It's the greatest mystery since the Black Dahlia Murder. Title: Any thoughts? Post by: jayohaitchenn on Friday, August 10, 2007, 11:20:27 fB, the nearest star to us would take 4.2 years to reach at light speed, unfortunately nothing of mass can accerelate to light speed as it would take an infinate amount of energy and (theoretically) be occupying every bit of space in the universe at the same time...
