In other news scientists recently found the most compelling evidence yet for the existance of dark matter but examining it's effects on nearby objects. Apparently Hubble has detected a ring of dark matter that is bending light around itself due to immense gravitational forces and causing a far away galaxy to be visible in 5 different locations in the sky.

Makes you think doesn't it?

jayohaitchenn, massive things bending light in space is indeed ace. As is light generally. Not only does it act like both a wave and a particle but it still moves relatively slowly compared to the size of the universe. It's the fastest you can go without some sort of new physics development which bends space-time or something. And even so it would still a year to get to our nearest neighbour star. By looking at things far away in space, you aren't so much as looking at things far away, but things billions of years ago.

fB, the nearest star to us would take 4.2 years to reach at light speed, unfortunately nothing of mass can accerelate to light speed as it would take an infinate amount of energy and (theoretically) be occupying every bit of space in the universe at the same time...
