Title: Pook scores Post by: Peter Venkman on Saturday, August 4, 2007, 17:20:36 Just got back from Exedur, won 1-0, pretty solid performance really, well taken goal by Pook who was pretty average, didnt do much wrong but didnt contriubute too much really, as didnt Adams.
Aljofree went off with what looked like a hamstring injury mid way thro second half. Kaid Mohammed = Blair Sturrock, very similar players and little sign that he is the answer to our goalscoring concerns....yet, he didnt do much all game really but then had little service, Ifil, Blackburn, Aljofree did well at the back, Vincent made a couple of uncharacteristic mistakes that werent punished. Comminges was great, some good touches and tackles, the boob was average borderline poor, Robbo did ok but his head dropped and he looked lost for patches. Sturrock was average up front as was Arrieta when he came on but again little service from midfield or the wings, Easton looked good when he came on. 1,300ish crowd with about 100/150 town fans in the baking hot sunshine....a wierd bit was that the ref just stopped the game on about 30 mins to give the players a drink on the pitch???? Smith and Brez looked comfortable in goal with no real scares. Overall.....solid at the back, pretty defensive midfield until Easton came on, pretty poor on the wings with little firepower up front, a typical pre season friendly really, I learn nothing new about us today that I didnt know or could have guessed before. Whip the ball early doors into the mixer and who knows what Arrieta and the Prophet will do Dissapointed Title: Pook scores Post by: herthab on Saturday, August 4, 2007, 17:37:38 Just got back.
Read pretty much the same as JJ. Brez looked back to his comfortable best, although there wasn't much for him to do. Comminges was our man of the match without a doubt. Zaboub and Roberts were dissapointing. The back four were solid, apart from a couple of lapses from Vincent. What we are really lacking, apart from a cutting edge upfront, is a creative midfielder. The CM looked solid (That word again) but little flair, or vision. On todays viewing I think we'll be ok this season, but nothing spectacular... Good shout RRR Been in the pub all afternoon  Title: Pook scores Post by: Spencer_White on Saturday, August 4, 2007, 18:35:03 I went today, and Ive got to say Im extremely dissapointed. Weve got the back 5 of a Championship team and the front 6 of a league 2 side. OK Roberts and Zaaboub arent interested in these games, but I worry, especially about Roberts, they were both dire. Adams looks a simmilar standard to Pook at the moment and needs to get up to standard sharpish. Only Easton looks quality of the attacking players weve brought in.
Positives are all at the back, Brez is back. Aljofree looks absolute class (fingers crossed on the injury). Commingues looks really useful, if a bit of a luxury player. Even Blackburn looks a very good centre back. We havnt seen Peacock in this new side and hopefully he will start in the middle with Easton. This match at Exeter wasnt worth the 5er to get in. Our balls into the final 3rd were woeful. We spent so little time attacking it was difficult to gauge the performances of the front players. Arrierta was set up with a chance, and missed. I think he and Kaid are complete gambles, so fingers crossed. I like Blair, but again he offers no assurances. Ive never been one to advocate selling a player, but having 2 quality goalkeepers is rediculous when you consider how lightweight we are up front. If we are docked 10 points I think we will struggle this season, I take no pleasure in saying that whatsoever. Title: Pook scores Post by: Rich Pullen on Saturday, August 4, 2007, 19:02:47 Without a doubt we will struggle with goals as it stands from what I saw today.
There was plenty of effort out there but not enough ability nor chances created. Aljofree, Comminges, Blackburn and Easton should all be good signings. I would've liked Exeter to have attacked more to see how Brezovan is getting on - but when called upon he looked comfortable. Spot on once again Spence however, if we cant deliver quality balls into the box then what chance have we got to score. Sturrock likes to play a certain way, and rightly or wrongly that's the way we will play. The problem is we can't We demand good early balls in the box to unsettle and give problems and our boys to pounce on bits and pieces, and we cant even deliver. Dont bemoan the lack of a goalscorer when we cannot even make goal scoring opportunities I said after Tuesday's game that Roberts and Boob are our problem Title: Pook scores Post by: DV on Saturday, August 4, 2007, 19:50:00 If Zaaboub is that bad at the moment, would it be worth trying Nicholas down the left?
I know its a player out of position, but I dont see why he couldnt at least be tried there... Title: Pook scores Post by: Arriba on Saturday, August 4, 2007, 19:53:48 anybody wearing gloves in the peak of summer is obviously a fruitcake.plus he dives and throws his toys out too often for my liking.he aint all that at all.
roberts is a talent,no question but 1 good game in 7ish aint good enough.the bloke lacks desire and motivation imo. plenty of nil-nils me thinks this season Title: Pook scores Post by: ronnie21 on Saturday, August 4, 2007, 20:05:16 Quote from: "stfc_steve" Quote from: "eldene red" Did Peacock play? dont think he did my dad and sister saw him in asda during the game i think Title: Pook scores Post by: Spencer_White on Saturday, August 4, 2007, 20:12:44 I think Zaaboub is the lesser worry. All of whats been said is true, hes a nutter for wearing them gloves and he was the worst diver I saw last season. But I think he gets motivated by the crowd. He tends to come good when its needed.
Roberts is turning into a bit of a Danny Invincible style player. You know he's got it, but you wonder how long your going to have to wait before he gives it to you. They arent really comparable players, Roberts has much more skill than Invincible ever did, but most of his passing/crossing today was terrible. On the bright side, Exeters interesting ground and that mouthy manc twat Terry Cristian being quite funny on Talksport on the way home. Title: Pook scores Post by: Arriba on Saturday, August 4, 2007, 20:16:13 if roberts had the effort and tenacity of invicible, he'd be a championship player at least.much more talented but much morte frustrating
Title: Pook scores Post by: herthab on Saturday, August 4, 2007, 20:17:45 We shouldn't start getting too worried.
They won't play next Saturday like they did today. We've got to remember today was a nothing match and while the concerns are still there re firepower and creativity, I think we'll see much more effort and application in games that mean something. That's what I hoping anyway.............................................. :? Mr Pook was pretty damn awful today, but he wasn't the only one. I was sat right at the front of the main stand, near enough to the pitch that I could almost reach ouch to pull Commingues' dreads. I found it odd to be so close to the pitch, at ground level, but you get a good view of the players. As already mentioned, we looked pretty solid at the back, and can't see us conceding too many goals next season. Commingues was good, and likes to get forward to support his winger, its a shame Vincent can't do the same. I thought Ifil looked his typical self. Solid, but then made 2 major cock-ups in the second half in the space of about 4 seconds and their striker missed with only Brez to beat. Aljiofree looked solid, but seemed a little hoof-ball for my liking. The midfield was poor. All of them, except Easton who came on mid-second half. Both Pook and Adams made some shocking passes, some of them completely unexplainable! Boob and Roberts were poor at best. Roberts doesn't seem very interested. There were two or three opportunities for him to bomb down the right or left in support of the strikers, but he just jogged down the wing like a fawn in the Autumn. Kaid was poor. One or two nice touches, but generally pants. No sign of this pace we've been told about either. Sturrock has talent, made intelligent runs and seems to know what he's doing. It does infuriate me when we've got 2 short guys up front, and the defence continues to hoof it up to them. Jamie Mackie, the Exeter right winder looked a handful. Maybe Sturrock could pop a bid in there. He went round Vincent like he wasn't even there on more than one occassion. Overall, it was a typical friendly. I will expect a much better performance next weekend. If not, we're in deep dump.
