Title: brevett and stowell Post by: juddie on Tuesday, July 10, 2007, 12:12:21 Christ on a bike, looks like we're actually trying to become a proper outfit with these two joining. Is Brevett a clue as to who the investor might be, do you think?

rufus brevett (ex scummer) as sporting director today is a mad day Title: brevett and stowell Post by: mattboyslim on Tuesday, July 10, 2007, 12:15:34 Rufus Brevett - 'sporting director'?!
Mike Stowell - full time goalie coach - a good decision IMHO. EDIT: Damn you Copper!!!! Title: brevett and stowell Post by: Colin Todd on Tuesday, July 10, 2007, 12:16:05 Lets hope the investemnt goes though then. given that we make losses of circa £750k with a minimal backroom staff and squad, fuck knows what it would be like with the kind of squad and backroom set up we seem to be assembling.
On the positive side, as long as the club can afford it, this type of development is top notch - the defence and centre midfield is looking strong and well covered, and we look to be getting a proper coaching set up. A couple of wingers and strikers of a similar standard to our current signings and we will be CHAMPIONS!! . FACT. I love pre season optimism. Title: brevett and stowell Post by: RobertT on Tuesday, July 10, 2007, 12:16:15 Brevett? wtf is that one all about.

So it must be somone that Rufus Brevett has close connections with ... Title: brevett and stowell Post by: RobertT on Tuesday, July 10, 2007, 12:53:50 club wise it leaves QPR and West Ham really (can't seem Al Fayed giving up Fulham really). But I can't see a foreign link and the people running those two clubs when he was with them should be steered carefully past swindon on the M4 on towards Bristol.
Title: brevett and stowell Post by: pauld on Tuesday, July 10, 2007, 12:54:50 Wonder how happy Sturrock will be at having a Sporting Director dumped on him?
Title: brevett and stowell Post by: Chubbs on Tuesday, July 10, 2007, 12:56:54 what is the role of a sporting director?

Title: brevett and stowell Post by: Batch on Tuesday, July 10, 2007, 12:59:10 Quote from: "Chubbs" what is the role of a sporting director? In your basic laymans terms right, a sporting director, directs sport. ;) Quote from: "luggy" "Rufus seems a nice lad and has had a decent career in the game and I am sure will have some useful contacts which can hopefully benefit the club. "He is keen to learn and is currently taking his coaching badges. He will also be helping out with scouting duties, but his primary role is to provide the contact between myself and the new owners. If I need a quick decision to be made then I can get in touch with him and he can facilitate that." Which I guess makes sense if the new investor is foriegn. Title: brevett and stowell Post by: RobertT on Tuesday, July 10, 2007, 13:00:45 Does this mean we are branching out and taking on an Athletics Club as well? maybe a Darts team or we've taken over management for Stephen Lee's snooker career?
Title: brevett and stowell Post by: Sippo on Tuesday, July 10, 2007, 13:02:54 Isn't a sporting director just a posher name for director of football??
Title: brevett and stowell Post by: juddie on Tuesday, July 10, 2007, 13:05:21 I thought that, whether or not Sturrock would be happy. But I don;t see Brevett's arrival as any threat to his own position. He has no managerial experience and if bringing brevett in is part of the package that means sturrock has money to spend. Today's signings smack of big money though - this investment is going to be interesting.
Title: brevett and stowell Post by: janaage on Tuesday, July 10, 2007, 13:05:38 WTF is this all about. And can someone, in very basic terms, explain the whole "this is a clue of who the new owner will be" as it means nothing to me.

Did McManaman do it recently? I still think that the ex chairman of southampton has something to do with it perhaps? Title: brevett and stowell Post by: juddie on Tuesday, July 10, 2007, 13:16:21 Janaage - Rufus Brevett has been installed as sporting dirtector at the County Ground., On the official site it says he'll be the link between the management team and the new consortium - leading me to believe that he must know the consoritum guys pretty well to be their spokesperson with sturrock and co. Nothing groundbreaking, just putting two and two together.
Title: brevett and stowell Post by: sonic youth on Tuesday, July 10, 2007, 13:18:40 more to the point, why does a division 3 football team need a sporting director/director of football/useless idiot?

If the arrangement work then good luck to all concerned. Title: brevett and stowell Post by: Luci on Tuesday, July 10, 2007, 14:35:00 I think hes a good addition personally. When qualified he will add to the coaching ranks and also, being an experienced defender, he can only be a good influence/older head to help the defenders we already have. Especially as now we have so many of them.
