No fucking winning with swindon fans

Last year and the year before we all kicked off that we were only offering 1 year deals now we offer 2-3 yr deals we are stupid.

The bloke played 2 months for  free last year to prove himself and played a part in promotion.

Imo he deserves a new contract

to be fair macca i think 2 years is a bit long,1 year would have been better, i mean if the unthinkable happened and we ended up going up could you see him cutting it in the championship?

If he played a part in us getting promoted then he'd either deserve the chance to keep the bench warm or I doubt we'd have much trouble getting a bit of cash for him.

Isn't his Mum his Agent? who gets the commission from dad signing him up?

Macca, players like Ifil deserve to get decent length contracts, it's what you use to atrract and retain the best talent.  Sturrock however should never be much more than a bit part League 1 player, so offering him 2 years seems a tad odd.  he's going to be another one of those players that just follows in Dads name.

Shakes scored a vital odd goal here and there, doesn't mean he deserves a 2 year contract.

Evans offered far more in the near 20 games he featured, but he doesn't get a new contract (I agree BTW, although I'd have offered him a month to month).

I just don't see a player like him being given 2 years if he is not called Sturrock.  Mind you, I'd probably offer him a 2 year deal if it were me in the same position 8)

Worth 1 year as a squad player.

But I'm very happy with the other signings so far, so I'l;l let Sturrock off this one mishap. I'm sure he'll be delighted.

He will be one of the hardest working players in the squad IMO and also one who may well improve significantly.  Hes got critics to improve and a father to impress.

Unless he works his socks off he will be benchwarming and I'm sure hes well aware of that.

I wouldn't say a work of genius. So far I am basing my opinion on his current performance. When he took over we were in League 2, we are now in League 1 and seem to be building a half decent squad of players.

My point is obvious, even if Sturrock signed Christiano Ronaldo on loan for a season you'd probably say it was a terrible signing.

I don't think Sturrock jnr is shit by any means.

I also don't think Sturrock snr thought to himself "Ooooh, I know, Blair is my son so I will give him a longer contract than if he was not my son"

He's giving players longer contracts accross the board which is right IMO.

I think if anything he treats him more harshly because he is his son. I think Blair should have started more games than he did last season.

And I don't think everything Sturrock does is a work of genius either (senior or junior)

Pompous twat.

I dont like Sturrock thats a fact but im perfectly happy to hold my hands up and say "that was a good decision" or "fair enough that was a good signing"  We spluttered into league 1 and last years promotion was more about the fantastic start Wise made than anything Sturrock did.

Being as you live in Luxembourg I think its probably fair to say that I saw more of the crap football  that was served up last year than you did and feel im perfectly within my rights to critiisize it and him.I'm not the type to base my opinions on him because of his "legendary" status with Plymouth. He's done nothing here as far as im concerened,he's extremely unlikeable and as for the "quality" of his signings that remains to be seen doesnt it...

So think before you "poo poo" my opinions, its a forum and forums dont really work without contrasting ones I make no apology for them.

I'm with Yeovil on this, How in lords name has he got a 2 year deal. He is a useful squad player but again not a goal scorer and is an infuriating player. Has no pace or left foot and is caught offside an awful lot. 2 years seems stupid to me, but only my opinion obviously.

Of course you are entitled to your opinions, however one thing I am not is a pompous twat, I resent that comment.

As for being extremely unlikeable, I think most of the Sheffield Wednesday fans would probably disagree with you.

IIRC, Sturrock Jnr was injured for the best part of last season and wasn't fully fit at the end of it.

Blair doesn't appear to get any preferential treatment from his dad (As lasts seasons appearances showed) so I think that nepotism is pretty unlikely.

You can look at 2 year deals positively or negatively, but if Luggy thinks he's worth it, that's good enough for me.

As to Sturrock Snr and his input into last season, well we went up and Wise pissed off in October, so I think he's gotta partly responsible for it :D

as did our best winning streak.

Sturrock took over after the ill fated Williams period, where the whole club went through something of a quagmire over about a month (not his fault).

I'm happier with Sturrock in charge than Wise to be honest. I liked Dennis and thought he did a great job for our football club but I always felt that I would wake up one morning, open the paper or log on to here and he'd have gone, right out of the blue.

Sturrock will stick around a lot longer and his track record suggests that he will sort this club out sooner rather than later. He knows exactly how he's going to do it, even if that means signing loads of defenders and two injured forwards

Last season sure as hell was not pretty but Sturrock's done nothing yet for me to dislike him as a person or doubt his ability.

i have to say i'm delighted! we have someone

to run into channels and beyond the defence-sturrock
to hold up play-peacock (when used as striker)
is a battering ram-akinweewaa

i think a lot of what blair does go unnoticed due to use having an unimaginitive midfield for most of last season (he wasn't here when evans could breath without an ironlung). he runs beyond the backline and tries things differently to how the rest of our strikers do, which is ace.

we need an out n out fast striker and then i think we'll have all the bases covered (i'm still holding onto peacock playing up top...i think the fact we've signed quite a few midfielders-none of which appear wingers-could signal this)

I used to live in Reading, used to see the lads at Elm Park, including on occasions being pelted by Swindon missiles when trying to be incognito in the stand.

Interesting on the Adver site, Blair was one more of the walking wounded last season.  There is a dirth of available quality strikers, this a good piece of business.  Let's face it, Cureton is supposed to be one of the better ones.
