I don't use any scientific/mathematical theories I learnt at school in my day-to-day work. Well, I suppose a lot of adding and subtracting and a bit of multiplication and division but that's about it.

What was the point in learning all that crap? Fucking SOHCAHTOA and Pythagoras Theorum. All bollocks.

Don't even get me started on A-Level Chemistry, why the hell did I think I'd ever need to know about hydrocarbons, the molar volume of gases, isomerism, halogenoalkanes, periodic trends, arenes, amines, amino acids, nitriles, aldehydes, ketones, carbohydrates, carboxylic acids, esters and all the other shit I can't care to remember.

You could apply that to anything though Sam. Education at that level is so broad , it's only when you go into higher and further education, or indeed start work that you specialise a bit more.

I dunno, long division's come in quite handy.  :|

I used to love maths. But trying to combine an A-level in further maths along with being 17, and discovering the cheap beer delights of the Cross Keys was only ever going to end up with one mistress.

My maths teacher at college tried to get me to do that further maths stuff. He also recommended that I did a maths degree, the crazy mofo.

I've just remembered the beers the day before the maths exam game I played in my first year of college. That was pretty ace.

I got proper beved up the morning before an afternoon physics exam. It was the day of the England - Brazil game in 2002. A time when I still cared about international football. I went into that exam pretty trashed and must have reeked of beer, Laurence had poured a pint of beer over my head at some point during the game.

Ace. World cups and exams seem to go together for me. I left my final uni exam 40 mins early (2 hour exam) so I could get a few beers in before the WC kicked off. Nearly got a first in that exam as well.

Only exam I ever did drunk was a crappy mock in college I'd forgotten about. Think I had about 5 pints of stella in an hour and was going to bunk off until someone text me about the exam. I passed (just).

Ben were you a victim of doing maths a year early at Commonweal?  I battled through Further Maths for 2 yrs and eventuall got a C, wished I'd nto bothered and done economics or French instead.

I did Pure Maths at A Level, following a fairly decent run at GCSE level but I could never get my head around the Calculus shit.  I was always good with numbers, not fucking letters.

Anyway, far better than trying the exam drunk was to not bother trying at all.  I filled in my name, details etc and then wrote a letter to the examiner about the wrongs that teachers had committed in firstly sending me down this route for two years and then forgetting to mention they did do a Statistics version instead and convincing me at every turn not to drop the subject.

I got an N which I still do not really understand it's place in the grading system.
