Title: Speeding! Post by: my-velocity on Wednesday, June 27, 2007, 21:36:48 Anyone ever been caught before? I just got caught doing 41-42 in a 40, don't know if you can be done for that or not. Stupid Officer with speed gun, next time i'll bleddy run him over.
What makes it worse is i've only been driving for just over a week. Title: Speeding! Post by: sonic youth on Wednesday, June 27, 2007, 21:40:27 ouch. never been done but i'd be pretty gutted at getting stopped for doing a tiny bit over the limit.
christ knows i've driven past police cars doing 10mph more than the speedlimit without noticing, i must be lucky. is your car modded/souped up? Title: Speeding! Post by: my-velocity on Wednesday, June 27, 2007, 21:43:23 No, don't see the point in it. I'm not a boy racer or owt, i was in a rush to get home and didn't realise i was doing just over the limit.
Title: Speeding! Post by: sonic youth on Wednesday, June 27, 2007, 21:46:35 if you looked like a boyracer you'd be more likely to get stopped. i attribute the fact i've never been pulled over to the fact i drive a woman's car
Title: Speeding! Post by: glos_robin on Wednesday, June 27, 2007, 21:47:33 If you were only 2 mph above the speed limit then you shouldn't have been done. The law has a 10% plus 2mph rule to allow for innaccuracies in the gun and calibration of your cars speedo.
The minimum you should get done for in a 40 zone is 47.........you sure you weren't in a 30 zone and didn't realise mate? Title: Speeding! Post by: my-velocity on Wednesday, June 27, 2007, 21:47:45 Well it's just a little 106, nothing big not even fast. Damn, i'm annoyed atm.
Title: Speeding! Post by: glos_robin on Wednesday, June 27, 2007, 21:54:12 Seriously the Police should not be doing you for 1 or 2 mph in a 40 zone, I can only think you crept into a 30 zone. Did the copper issue you with a fixed penalty notice?
Title: Speeding! Post by: Sippo on Wednesday, June 27, 2007, 22:14:59 The leeway is 10% +2. So in 40 MPH you can 'do' 46. FACT.
Title: Speeding! Post by: Chubbs on Wednesday, June 27, 2007, 22:51:09 how long to points take to clear off a licence? i got an sp50 back in feb 2004.
Title: Speeding! Post by: glos_robin on Wednesday, June 27, 2007, 22:52:41 3 years for the points to come off, and 5 years before their completely removed from your record........I think thats how it works.
Title: Speeding! Post by: Stef Troll on Wednesday, June 27, 2007, 23:29:53 I've failed a drving test for doing 33mph in a 30 limit, got no other majors in the whole drive, and only 3 minors

As glos said, I wouldn't put it past the copper to be standing in a 30mph limit but clocking you whilst you just came out of a 40mph. They really are sneaky cunts. Title: Speeding! Post by: Sippo on Thursday, June 28, 2007, 07:25:16 On my way home they stand just before the national speed limit sign in the 30 zone, just behind the bend :x
Title: Speeding! Post by: Barnard on Thursday, June 28, 2007, 07:59:38 Did a copper actually stop you after you passed the gun?
Iirc the handheld speedguns work in teams, that is one 'zaps' you and then calls his mate down the road who pulls you over and gives you a ticket. And as other have said, you can't be prosecuted for 41-42 mph in a 40 limit. Title: Speeding! Post by: janaage on Thursday, June 28, 2007, 08:10:12 41/42 in a 40 appeal as it'd get thrown out of court.
If the copper was stood just inside the 30mph zone I don't think that'd stand up either tbh. If you've only been driving a week and get done for speeding staright away don't you lose your license for 6 months or something, or have I just made that up. Title: Speeding! Post by: mattboyslim on Thursday, June 28, 2007, 08:17:56 You only have 6pts before a ban instead of the usual 12, I think thats for the first 2/3 yrs IIRC?

Title: Speeding! Post by: Compo on Thursday, June 28, 2007, 09:03:46 Speed cameras have a given 5% error rate, so i guess u should be ok :D
Title: Speeding! Post by: Sippo on Thursday, June 28, 2007, 09:04:32 SP30 just means exceeding the speed limit on a public road. So in the 40mph case you'd still get an SP30.
Title: Speeding! Post by: Bob's Orange on Thursday, June 28, 2007, 10:17:23 I have been really lucky. I have been stopped twice by guns. First time was a beautiful sunny day after a days work in Tesco. I wanted to get home and only lived a couple of miles down the road. I think I was doing nearly 40 in a 30 (which was lucky as I normally did about 50 in my young naive days) and got a warning to slow down. Second time was the same shitty metro and I was driving home from Edinburgh at silly o'clock in the morning. It was freezing cold and again I had been zapped doing about 40 in a 30. The copper (who had been standing at the top of a hill - sneaky git) gave me a warning and basically said that even though there was nobody about, it was icy and I should watch my speed etc and let me on my way!
Actually there was another occasion. I was designated driver and I agreed to pick up some friends in town. This stupid girl in the back warned me to drive carefully so to try and put the shits up her I decided to zigzag up and down the highstreet to freak her out. Unbeknown to me, an unmarked police car was behind me and I remember almost browning my jockeys as I got breathalised and a warning for driving like a cunt. More recently, driving back from Strasbourg I got flashed by a speed camera doing 180kmh in a 110kmh limit (sorry, don't know the MPH equivalent) but have never received anything in the post. I don't give a shit whether the cops are being sneaky or not, I'm man enough to know the limits are not just put there for decoration, If i decide to ignore it and get caught then it's my own fault. That's 115mph in a 70mph! That'd have been a ban if you'd been done in this country! When I had my license... ... I was quite good, but still managed to get done for 71mph in a 60mph by a speed camera. It was on a dual carriageway at night and the 60mph signs hadn't been lit up... Didn't bother appealing though, as it isn't worth arguing with the fuzz. Title: Speeding! Post by: Sussex on Thursday, June 28, 2007, 12:50:04 Quote from: "Walrus" When I had my license... ... It was a man in the middle between the two roads with a speed gun. No one pulled me over on anything as he didn't have a car.
I weren't going that fast anyway, just got worried as i've only just started driving. Title: Speeding! Post by: Sippo on Thursday, June 28, 2007, 12:55:24 Beckett they don't need to pull you over nowadays, you'll just get a letter through the post if you were speeding.
