Title: The Verve to reform
Post by: Iffy's Onion Bhaji on Tuesday, June 26, 2007, 23:04:41
anyone else heard about this? apprantly they are recording a new album and touring in November. Not sure when the album will be out but im guessing at the end of this year sometime.

i like the Verve and i think it's great they are coming back. wondered what everyone elses thoughts were?

early verve stuff is quality, apart from 2 or 3 tracks which are timeless on urban hyms, the album has not dated well at all.

i never liked it, although everyone raved about it, i don't know why, it just never sounded good to me and ashcrofts voice always irritated me.

I like the Verve too and some of Richard Ashcrofts solo stuff is pretty good too (Check the meaning etc.)

I'd defo go and see them if they were touring.

I liked the verve, and would welcome a reunion providing they hit the old heights.

Didnt Mr Ashcroft go a bit loopy in Chippenham recently? burst into a youth club or something??

I think he was staying in that massive house by the bridge centre roundabout?

His wife's parents live in the chippenham area, he was bladdered and wandered in to the youth centre at the bridge. Apparently he wanted to do some work with kids

When he was removed by the police he gave a rendition of some of his best known numbers to the coppers who were driving him to melksham police hq, apparently this didn't help as they'd never heard of him.

And he left his hat behind.

The Verve were the best 'Indie' band of the nineties imo.
A Storm In Heaven is fantastic... one of my favourites from my indie boy days. A Northern Soul is also fantastic although very dark and at times a tad depressing. Urban Hymns was a good record but pointed towards a more mainstream audience and never really grabbed me in the same way.

But a comeback is not a good thing. The Northern swagger mid nineties bullshit don't wash with me no more. Take note Liam Gallagher.

Seems pathetic now, how I used to idolise these fuckwits.

That's a good question... thinking about it, I don't really idolise anyone these days, more of a respect thing.
