Title: My Car Post by: Bob's Orange on Saturday, June 23, 2007, 19:10:48 Ok, my flatmate kindly put my car in the garage for me recently but not very helpfully left the keys in the car and apparently the garage door locked as it shut (unusual as you normally have to manually turn a key to lock a garage).
Anyway, before I phone a locksmith next week, anybody have any idea how to pick a garage lock? Also, how much is a locksmith likely to charge should I need to go down that route? Title: My Car Post by: santini on Saturday, June 23, 2007, 19:56:00 If it's an up-and-over there should be enough space at the top for you to reach inside with long pliars and tug the wire down to release the spring loaded catch.
If it's not, use a hammer. Title: My Car Post by: sonic youth on Sunday, June 24, 2007, 11:26:22 typical scouser, eh santini? :D
Title: My Car Post by: red macca on Sunday, June 24, 2007, 11:37:31 if you are insured smash in to it and claim
Title: My Car Post by: Samdy Gray on Sunday, June 24, 2007, 11:53:26 As Santini says, if it's an up-and-over type door just give it a good firm whack at the top and it usually nudges the catch out of place.

Title: My Car Post by: Bushey Boy on Sunday, June 24, 2007, 12:58:27 Just drill it out, new lock would cost about £10 from ESS in swindon.
If you need someone to do it PM me Title: My Car Post by: Samdy Gray on Sunday, June 24, 2007, 13:00:06 Ash mate, he lives in Luxembourg :soapy tit wank:
Title: My Car Post by: Bushey Boy on Sunday, June 24, 2007, 13:00:53 That will cost him a lot then. 47p a mile mate and I am there
I am not with it today Title: My Car Post by: Bob's Orange on Monday, June 25, 2007, 15:23:47 Ok, the locksmith came today and freed the car. I went for a spin and I can drive ok (little bit unconfortable but no real pain). I was happy as a pig in shit until I come to reverse the car into the garage. My foot slips off the clutch/brake (not sure which) and bang goes the mirror into the garage hinge! On inspection, there is a small dent on the back of the mirror and the paint around the glass is badly scraped on 3 sides.
I feel like somebody has it in for me! Title: My Car Post by: blinkpip on Monday, June 25, 2007, 15:34:03 How much did it cost for the locksmith?

How much is it to replace car mirrors? Bearing in mind these are electric are they likely to cost a bomb? Title: My Car Post by: sonic youth on Monday, June 25, 2007, 17:00:07 i took one of my wing mirrors clean off when i was learning to drive, was dead cheap to replace. might be different for electrics though

If it's just cosmetic damage and it still works, couldn't you just replace the casing? I dunno. Title: My Car Post by: Bob's Orange on Monday, June 25, 2007, 17:12:09 Quote from: "Sussex" Quote from: "Bob's Orange" How much is it to replace car mirrors? I am hoping that is all that will be required! Title: My Car Post by: Simon Pieman on Monday, June 25, 2007, 18:12:14 Some cars you have to replace the whole panel just for a new mirror
Title: My Car Post by: Samdy Gray on Monday, June 25, 2007, 19:13:43 See if you can get the casing repaired, will probably be cheaper than buying a new one.
I was after a new mirror for my '97 Megane last year (electric & heated) and all the scrappies I spoke to wanted £50 for 1 and that wasn't even a colour match, christ knows how much it would have cost brand new. |
