Should be alot fitter next year worth keeping as a squad player dont you think ?

i rate blair as it is...i tihnk corr and blair would be ideal in league 1

Not convinced by him personally, worth a contract as a squad player but won't get the goals we need as a regular. He seems to lack pace and won't use his left foot at all which are both massive drawbacks, along with the fact he seems to be caught offside most of the time. Against Bury away he missed a stupid amount of chances and against Rovers away he spent the whole game standing offside and fouling people which didn't help our cause.

He was Ok in league 2 but certainly shouldn't be a regular starter for us in league 1. Squad player and impact sub is about his limit I would suggest.

Like glos i think he will be a squad player (if he stays) better than alot of squad plyers we have had in the last few years though i suppose

Blair would be a very good squad player. We've got Corr to win headers and hold the ball up, Roberts who can take people on and then Sturrock runs the channels extremely well and brings the midfield into play.

Blair is a good player.

He works the channels well and gets the ball out wide after he stretches the defence.

The problem is with Blair out wide in the channels, there will only be one other forward in the box, this is where you need one of the central midfielders to burst forward and make up the numbers.

Where as we had Pook & Peacock both sitting deep, neither making those runs forward.

How often did Blair get the ball in decent positions only to look up and find no one in the box, he then holds onto the ball to wait for another red shirt to arrive and loses the ball because he has been kept waiting.

He's a 'run-off' striker, that plays off the central striker, and looks for flick ons.

Blair does offer genuine passings option for the midfield, often to feet, which in turn reduces the long ball game.

Id say give him another year.  A decent sub/replacement

would be a decent back up but nothing more than that

I agree. But Blair needs to learn to cross on his left foot before people being in the box even matters. Worth keepingbut hopefully we'l have someone better in the starting XI

I must admit he just reminds me of a slightly better version of Shaun Close (clearly the fact he scored more than one goal makes him better).  A sort of odd player that will probably spend their entire career never being bad enough to be properly lambasted, but never being much more than a "squad player".  I think he'd probably end up that way in League 2 as well.

I think he's very good at League Two level (as his track record proves) but at League One level? Questionable.

Deserves a chance.

i just think he's taking up a really important position in the team. imagine settling for blair when we've had people like parkin there in league one before. will never be good enough, exactly the sort of player we need to be replacing in the step up.

With who though? Sturrock has already said he doesn't think much of the available strikers.

there's a fuck load of better strikers than him available i'm sure of that. the fact is, blair sturrock is not good enough to lead the line in league one, manager's son or not.

i dont doubt there are better strikers out there, i just dont think we'll have any money to spend on players, and those on a free will probably find that the wages we offer will be middle of the road for league 1 at best...

the point of the argument is that blair sturrock isn't very good, he's kind of in the mcphee role i.e. doesnt really do anything of any note, ever.

compared to mcphee, sturrock is totti.

If we rely on sturrock to be our main striker, then we are fucked  :|. ALl he ever seems to do is stand offside and take far too long over chances

Roberts did that all last season and was offered a new contract,  so on that principle, why not offer Sturrock a new contract

sturrock is a good enough squad player, he may even get a bit more time on the ball in league one. i dont want us to rely on him but as a 3rd or 4th striker i think he will do well.
at least he will give 100%

Sturrock's alright, another one to keep. As long as he gets about 10 chances every match he usually converts one. Although having said that now, he'll probably bang in 25 goals next season :beers:

Just as much sense as ofering Roberts a new contract   :)   Or thats what i was trying to allude to anyway
