Ive been told that you can't take liquids like gel, shower gel etc. in hand luggage. Can anyone confirm this please or no how strict they are if I say I "didn't realise"?

Anything bigger and they will just chuck it.
Check the airlines website as usually there are clear instructions there. They liftes the total ban in about January/February I think. They will tell you to put it in a clear bag when checking in.
