Title: Scarborough... Post by: Summerof69 on Monday, June 11, 2007, 10:10:31 This has been sent out by the Seadog Trust at Scarborough about their plight. I'd thought I'd let other football fans know what's happening there :
Thought the wider Trust movement might be interested in this: Dear Boro Fan, As you are no doubt aware, Scarborough FC announced on Friday that in all likelihood, the winding-up of Scarborough FC Ltd will go ahead in court on Tuesday, and that the Club we all support will be going into liquidation. Although obviously not wishing for such an outcome, Seadog Trust has prudently been working on a "Plan B" for some time in order that football fans in Scarborough still have a team to support next season. As such we have applied to enter the Northern Counties East League (the highest league in the pyramid that the FA will allow us to enter), and submitted a membership form to the North Riding County FA. We have also produced a 5-year business plan for the new club - provisonally called Scarborough Athletic - and have received a letter of intent to enter into a temporary ground sharing agreement with Bridlington Town. For further information, including details of how we propose to move forward with the Supporters Club, please read the latest news bulletin on our website: http://www.seadogtrust.com/news.php The Northern Counties East League hold their AGM this afternoon - we should hopefully know if our application is successful later today. Ordinarily this application should be fairly straight forward, as we have proved to the NCEL that we are capable of forming a football team that is well planned, stable and above all capable of fulfilling a season. However, Ian Scobbie has also begun the process of registering a new football club, even though he was fully aware of Seadog Trust's plans following a meeting with him on Monday 4th June. The board of Seadog Trust strongly believes that the plan we have in place is the one best suited to the long term future of football for Scarborough. It is time for a clean break from the past, and our way forward provides that. Boro fan Nick Clarke has started an on-line petition calling for Ian Scobbie to leave us, the football fans of Scarborough, in peace and allow us to form a new football club. This petition will be vital in persuading the national FA that our application is the better option, and we encourage all fans to sign it as soon as possible. The petition can be found here: http://www.petitiononline.com/SFCv2/petition.html For those of you that haven't yet joined Seadog Trust, we strongly encourage you to do so. By uniting at this stage we will be able to move forward together to create a successful new football club that the whole town can be proud of. Full individual membership starts at only £12 per year, although of course we would be more than grateful if you were to contribute more. Further details can be found in the membership section of our website: http://www.seadogtrust.com/membership.php Finally, please feel free to pass this e-mail on to as many Boro fans as possible. Thank you for your time. Yours faithfully, Simon Cope Chair, Seadog Trust -- Seadog Trust - Boro's Future Is Ours www.seadogtrust.com Scarborough Football Club Supporters' Society Ltd, trading as Seadog Trust Title: Scarborough... Post by: Summerof69 on Wednesday, June 20, 2007, 11:10:15 Scarborough have now been wound up.
This statement from Scarborough sounds familiar : A statement from Scarborough read: "While it is sad to see the demise of a club with a proud history of 128 years, the club's finances have for a number of years been in a very poor state and the company has been in and out of various insolvency proceedings. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/eng_conf/6221674.stm Title: Scarborough... Post by: Rich Pullen on Wednesday, June 20, 2007, 11:17:36 I used live near Scarborough for a small while when the were a more stable L2 team.
Sad that they have gone out of business. Title: Scarborough... Post by: mattboyslim on Wednesday, June 20, 2007, 11:28:21 Real shame, I remember about 4yrs back watching them give Chelsea a good game in a pub at Notts County. Looks like they lurched from one financial crisis to another and it all came too much. Their fans must have known it was coming and organised a place in a much lower league - fair play to them and it'd be good to see them reach the upper echelons of non league football again soon.
There really does seem to be a massive step down into teh non-leagues, once you're there the 'relative' financial stability of league football is very mcuha thing of the past. Title: Scarborough... Post by: Tails on Wednesday, June 20, 2007, 13:42:36 What a shame :( Remember them being a league club, which wasn't even really that long ago.
Could be us soon. Title: Scarborough... Post by: Bogus Dave on Wednesday, June 20, 2007, 15:26:29 Guess Jimmy glass is even less popular up their now
