Title: Screw top bottles of wine
Post by: axs on Friday, June 8, 2007, 00:26:36
I hate them for a couple of reasons:

1) They don't allow the wine to breathe when laid to rest. of course doesn't apply to the average bottle which is drunk within 4 days of purchase.

2) You lose the whole tradition / routine of pulling out the cork and the pre-drink satisfying pop that it makes.

3) they drip much more than corked bottles so you get stains on your tablecloth. or cheap ikea table in my case.

that is all.

i believe chardonnay / blanc is a white 'wine' and therefore doesn't count. should be classed as a chemical acid and not a drink.

right, sincere apologies. Again, from a drinking point of view i agree white "wine" should be banished, but to the ignorant average joe pub customer, white "wine" is far more popular

i hear women like it. it's taken me nearly two years to convert my girlfriend to red wine but she still orders it in pubs. i will drink it when pushed but i'd rather have red every day.

Some bloke on the Radio earlier said he sells 2 bottles of Red to every bottle of White.

After chucking away too many bottles of 'corked' wines over the years I'm a convert. More screwing, that's what I say.

Even the Frenchis are using screw tops these days to avoid the ever increasing number of corked bottles.

Get used to it until a low cost way can be found to cork wine without causing such wastage of supplies.
