Sonic why don't you try a few meat pasta dishes or something like a curry. There's not really a lot you can do wrong here and is a good chance to experiment with flavours. Then you can start doing other dishes when you're a bit more confident. Each part you cook pop it in another saucepan with a plate over it. When cooking pasta put some salt in it boiler kettle and wash off pasta with boiling water
