Gregory looks to the future
Wednesday May 23 2007 11:06

QPR boss John Gregory claims he is ready to look to the future after 'inheriting a lot of rubbish' at Loftus Road when he took over in September.

The former Aston Villa and Derby chief replaced Gary Waddock in the R's hot-seat after just one month of the season and successfully kept the club in the Championship.

Rangers finished 18th in the table this season, but Gregory has set his sights on a vast improvement following what promises to be a summer of change.

"It's very much a clean slate for everyone connected to QPR,'' he told the club's official website.

"I inherited a lot of rubbish right the way through this club, but as much as I wanted to change things, at the time, the focus was entirely upon guaranteeing our safety.

"We've done that and now we can start to build for the future - there can be no excuses anymore.''

QPR release eight of their squad
QPR have offered new deals to Marcus Bignot and Marc Nygaard, but Kevin Gallen and Marc Bircham are among eight players handed free transfers.

Bignot and Nygaard have both been rewarded with 12-month extensions.

However, midfielder Bircham and forward Gallen along with midfielder Steve Lomas are not being offered new deals.

Striker Paul Furlong, goalkeepers Simon Royce and Paul Jones, defender Mauro Milanese and midfielder Armel Tchakounte have also been released.

Fallen out with Waddock, wages high, international record, and Bournemouth looking like relegation fodder if they don't get some quality in. I think he will sign and be one of the better players in League I.

BBC - Lomas and Hamilton get call-ups
Northern Ireland boss Nigel Worthington will include Steve Lomas and Gary Hamilton in his squad for Saturday's friendly against Everton in Coleraine.
Worthington has not officially announced a squad given doubts over the availability of several regulars.
However, QPR's Lomas and Glentoran striker Hamilton will be involved in the Milk Cup 25th anniversary game....
. Veteran Lomas, 33, won the last of his 46 caps against Finland four years ago, and is in talks about leaving QPR and joining Championship outfit Colchester.

Steve Lomas believes Gillingham are "geared up for a promotion challenge" after completing his move to the Kent club earlier this week.

The former Northern Ireland international joined the Gills after being released by QPR at the end of the season but has targeted an immediate return to the Championship.

He told the club's official website: "I honestly think we can return to the Championship this year. If I didn't believe we could go up then I wouldn't have signed.

"I've played here a few times with both Manchester City and West Ham. The ground is fabulous; it's really improved over the years.

"I've lived over in Essex for a while now and I've kept an eye on the club but I've been really impressed by the set-up.

"We're certainly geared up for a promotion challenge. We finished mid-table last year, so the play-offs must be our aim this season."

They all spout the same shit when they sign.

So he's kept his 'eye' on Gillingham...... What a load of crap.

Playoffs for Gillingham?

That's more unrealistic than us going up!!

Cheltenham 1-0 Gillingham
Cheltenham edged out Gillingham in a stormy confrontation that saw three players sent off.

Steve Gillespie got the winner after 24 minutes, despite looking well offside.

Referee Paul Melin also upset the Gills when he harshly sent off Ian Cox for tussling with Paul Connor, then Steve Lomas for a second yellow card.

Cheltenham's Gillespie became the third player to see red after 79 minutes, when he picked up a second yellow card for failing to retreat at a freee-kick.

"On January 9, 2008 Gillingham manager Mark Stimson revealed that Lomas had been placed on the transfer list.[3] On January 31 it was announced that Lomas had been released from his contract."

He's now started several new careers.
