Title: Couldnt post on non footie forum so........
Post by: stfc_steve on Friday, June 1, 2007, 11:37:35
Would just like to mention how shite the NHS is.
Was taken to A&E on wednesday and was kept in untill mid afternoon on thursday.
Due to abdominal pains they needed to monitor what was wrong, they said it could be my appendix but in the end it bloody was'nt.
N to top it all off i had to wait 3 hours to have my drip taken out so i could go home  :|
was not happy

so would you have rather gone home with no care and the possibility of having your appendix burst?

I've heard that the nhs should instantly make me feel really good as soon as I go anywhere near any of there hospitals. And clean my kitchen.

definitely.

they only charged me £4 the other day when normally it's £7 back from the waterfront

I have nothing but praise for the NHS.

When i was attacked in june 2004, my whole lower jaw was cracked in half right down the middle.

I honestly thought i was gonna look a mess for the rest of my life. (no jokes about i still do please!)

I went in hospital on the sunday morning and within a day, i'd had emergency surgery and 2 metal plates were placed in my jaw. My bottom jaw bone was no longer sticking into the roof of my mouth and i felt normal again but numb.

They did a great job.

Having been in the GWH twice since November for operations I have nothing but praise for the NHS.  The care I received was absolutely first class and the dedication these people show you is beyond words.  Yes, sometimes things go wrong, the pressure they are under is incredible.  The worst I had was getting the wrong dessert which they willingly changed!  Suggest a few people try the american way, especially if you have no insurance! :soap:

What did you order and what did you get? It's a fucking outrage :x  That Blair's got alot to answer for..

Now that Blair's on his way out how long do you think it'll be before people start calling Gordon Brown, Gordon Clown? I give it 2 months. I've already got David CaMoron lined up.

I don't like it when people slag off the NHS as the people that work for them (nurses mainly) are overworked and underpaid and have to deal with all kinds of shit on a day to day basis with drunks getting violent to patients moaning that they haven't been seen yet. They do the best job they can seeing as they're so under funded by the government. Teachers etc have been given pay rises over the last few years to get more into schools but nurses haven't seen the same rise so it's not a surprise they aren't meeting standards.

Rant over.

I have full respect for the NHS, and agree that whilst Doctors earn huge sums nurses don't earn a fortune.  However they do earn a decent wedge, or at least my Brother in law does alright.  Teachers are a major shortage and unlike nurses it is harder to bring them in from abroad IHMO.  I do think they do alright money wise - perhaps not for the skills they have but anyone who gets into that job knows the conditions before they start-  it's not like nures 20 years ago earned a fortune and worked short hours - there might be slight drop in conditions but young teachers and nurses are fully aware of this when they do the job.

It's not part and parcel of there job to get abused by patients at work, and I don't think many are aware of this aspect of the job before they start, whereas those that become teachers have all been to school and are therefore aware of what to expect. In my opinion teachers, police atc have been given greater benefits of their jobs over the last few years, compared to nurses. As you said, it's not like nurses earned a fortune and worked short hours 20 years ago, but thats the problem, that these conditions aren't changing for the better

Very true, I hadn't really thought of the patient abuse - and i think it's very much department dependent A&E must be horrific whereas longer term care is much better - certianly mu Brother in Law has never has any issues.  I firmly believe that there should be more done in refusing to treat abusive patients - kind of hospital ASBOs I guess.

Fine sentiments. Now you've finished your degree, perhaps you'd like to start helping to pay for some of your suggested improvements ?.  And, as you have no recollection of a period of time after your exams, are you sure you didn't abuse any hard working people of any kind ?

I take it you're not a fan of students then. The average graduate pays more tax over their lifetime than those that don't go to university so that argument is swings and roundabouts.
I'm not just talking about drunks abuising NHS staff, even sober people can get violent if they think they've been waiting too long or feel their patient isn't getting the correct treatment etc

They are there to help people and i'm saying that I don't think they get the respect they deserve.

I would be interested to know what benefits the police have been given over the last few years? My lady now works longer hours gets more grief
and more abuse to deal with than she did 5 years ago.If you want to talk about an emergency service that gets more benefits then try fireman for starters, how many other of the ES can play volleyball whilst on duty?sleep on night shift?get a 9% pay increase and go on strike!

Fireman have had big benefits compared to the rest i agree.

With police, they have had pay rises in line with what they should, but I can't comment on their work conditions. I'm not underestimating the job any of the emergency services do, I just feel that the NHS hasn't been brought into line with modern times with pay and working conditions whereas the others seem to have been.
