Title: Will Sturrock stay the whole season....
Post by: flammableBen on Monday, May 28, 2007, 17:41:54
Anyone else think that the earliest hints of signs of cracks in the relationship between Sturrock and the Board are starting to show? Pre-season was always going to be an interesting time with Sturrock needing to set up a budget to rebuild the team the way he wants.

Dunno really, I'm just getting the feeling that things aren't all that great, Friday's reactionary board statement was along the same lines of the way they pissed of Wise and it interestingly fell on the same day that Sturrock had buggered off on his hols.

The worst possible thing next season would be Sturrock pissing off in the first half of the season, leaving another manager to try and take over with a squad which isn't theirs. We managed it this season but we were a much stronger team compared to the rest of the league, and I'm not sure we'd appoint someone of the same calibre of manager again.

Not really what there is to discuss much here, apart from how crazy is Ben, but there you go.

Didn't Sturrock sign a contract for 18 months with both parties unable to terminate even if they wanted to?

He will definately be here next season.

I don't think when Sturrock came in he was sold a massive investment or owt, but I'd guess he wasn't sold a swinging budget cut either.

The Board already have Adi Williams lined up for when Sturrock  walks, and I don't suppose Barry Hunter will have found work by the autumn.

well i agree with Ben. i think the cracks are beginning to show now. hopefully the consortium will takeover sooner rather than later. however i do get the impression Sturrock isn't the sort of person to just walk away from a job

I think he'll be here all season. And I think Dirk Diggler was right in that there is a minimum period in which the contract must be respected

sturrock more or less admitted he only took the job as it was the first offer that came along.

Its his first impressions thing; I'm pretty sure the Board  would have to royally piss him off for him to walk,  but.........

I thought that was more with leaving for another job? Although it would mean that Sturrock would have to feel that bit more strongly before leaving. Not sure you could force someone not to resign in a contract. Isn't that a bit like slavery but with a wage?

Just playing Devils Advocate, but no contract is watertight, we are kidding ourselves if we think that this one is.

Having said that, I dont see PS as a quitter

As Fred points out, with the right amount of compensation and will of either part y the contract could be terminated.

Signs are Sturrock is a man of his word, and I really think he will be OK with the budget even if expectations have been beaten down somewhat by him.

Odds are the day will come where he will get poached by a bigger club. Or less likely he'll be sacked for taking us down. It is not speculation, just the nature of football management. I'd guess at  2 more seasons!

if he gets a better offer he will be gone, regardless of who rules the boardroom.

I seem to remember Mikey D. being reported as saying he had contact with Paul S. and it was likely he would be our next manager.  Paul S. was then reported as saying he liked what he heard from the Board.  Was it not Dennis Wise saying exactly the same thing only four months previous?  And we all know he had a big falling out with a certain person don't we.  I don't see Sturrrock as a quitter unless he gets shit on from a great height and I believe that to be possible before the season starts with this lot in charge!
