Title: Next seasons budget
Post by: STFC Bart on Saturday, May 26, 2007, 19:23:44
Despite the board stating otherwise, it looks like our budget is going to make it difficult for us to compete next season.

Time to seriously up the ante on the board guys- there has never been a better time for them to walk than now. Give us a chance of not just survival but competing at league 1 level. After all we are in the league where we were when they took over.

POWER IN!!

And, apart from bitching on forums, what are you doing to up the ante?

well i think we'll be mid-table even with a shit budget. the one thing that works in our favour is that this time we actually have a decent manager!

Must be an employee or a large shareholder.  Fair play hes passionate and doubt he would concede what or how he knows stuff but I always seem to agree with what he says

For what it's worth, I think the reason Bart gets shit is because he never posts constructively.

Yes the board are crap.

Yes most of us think that the Consortium would do a better job.

Repeating this ad naseum does what though?

When Bart posts, it's like Groundhog day!

we signed Thorpe, Cureton and Whalley all on good money.

Whilst I expect the budget will be cut, and whilst I expect no money will be made availavble for transfers. Its not even June yet and people are moaning at the lack of investment.

This is in no way, shape or form anything like are relegation season. We havent sold our main player, infact he's signed a 3 year deal and this time we've come up so we've got confidence and momentum and we've got Paul fucking Sturrock.

This will not be another 05/06 season

how so, yeah they all turned out shit....but despite the budget cut we managed to sign 3 'big' name players with a proven pedigree in the lower leagues.

At the time we** all viewed them as major coups, in reality they dissapoited and were shit.

** this we does not include Reg Smeeton as he said from the start they would be total rubbish and he was right, as usual......we are not worthy. I just wish he'd told Kingy

I'd like to distance myself from that claim.....although I thought Whalley might be OK,  I never realised though we'd given him a 3 year contract.

We are in generally  better shape than 2 years ago, but the reliance on Corr and his dodgy back, is a cause of concern.

Everyone was excited when Thorpe and Curo signed.

Even i can't deny that. I was one of those silly cunts that got Cureton 11 on the back of my shirt  :-))(

You are having a laugh, with the players we have signed up at the moment we will be relegated, we have no strikers for a start.

Sturrock needs to be careful about signing all these old boys he's had previous, he may have worked with them in the past and they may have been good for him - but if we sign too many players that are older then surely we risk the Whalley & Thorpe syndrome of signing players that are not hungry enough, sign a few younger players that have potential they usually play well as they may get noticed.

I'm sure Jerel & Brez will be gone if they start well next season though.

Corr WILL sign so there's a striker.

I can't believe people are talking about fucking relegation already. It's fucking may!

Potentially Corr is good, but with a caveat that back injuries can be nasty,  he'll miss pre-season and the start of season, it was a pis poor start that shafted us last time.

It's may, shut the fuck up.

Paul Sturrock is one of the best managers outside of the Premiership and he knows what he's doing.

it doesn't matter if Sturrock is the best manager in the world if his budget doesn't allow him the room to manevuer.

Exactly the same as every other manager under this board.

This budget scenario just proves that they CANNOT take us any further, we are in no better a position on the field as we were when they retook control

Unless he has come up with some crazy pre-season training schedule which will turn Pook into the greatest ever footballer.

Exactly King showed that with a par for the div budget, he could produce a reasonably competitive side......but as soon as it was slashed we went down. That relegation was predictable....we went into the opening game at Barnsley with more players debuting than any game since 1946.

This coming season we have a bit more stability,  which should be a help. Can't help thinking that the sale of Lukas will prove to be an error, it would have been far better to see him banging in some goals, making a name for himself and creating an auction.

Does anyone on here actually know the playing budget for next year?

Does anyone on here know the difference in playing budget between ourselves and other league one clubs?

Or, are people just moaning for the sake of it?

Get real Ralphy...this is Sturrock's view....

“I want to bring in x amount of players but if I don’t get them I will have to charge around looking for others. It is difficult.

“I am very surprised by what wages people are paying in this league. If you are going to be really competitive, we are going to have to raise the stakes a bit.

“League One has better finishers, a bit more pace and a few more goals. How competitive we are depends on the type of player we can bring to the club. Ask me again on July 9 and maybe I will have an answer.
