Title: Beckham Post by: Sippo on Saturday, May 26, 2007, 12:00:05 Recalled to the England squad for the friendly against Brazil.
Good move or not? Helped real Madrid move closer to the title and is playing well, but should we not be giving the younger players a run out? I'm surprised at the decision. Title: Beckham Post by: red macca on Saturday, May 26, 2007, 12:07:21 Not suprised at all if anything he can teach lennon how to cross the fuckin ball
Title: Beckham Post by: Chubbs on Saturday, May 26, 2007, 12:14:40 i was about to post this, i think the pressure finaly got to mclaren, and i think he' see's it as a way out, and to be liked by more people, but i think its too late for that.
Title: Beckham Post by: Give us an S on Saturday, May 26, 2007, 12:22:09 Forget giving younger players a chance. We need to get our act together and qualify. He is still the best right sided English midfielder in my opinion and we need him.
Title: Beckham Post by: Batch on Saturday, May 26, 2007, 12:22:32 For me the question is a simple one. Is he better than waht England currently have.
The answer is yes, I think he is better than Downing. Trouble is they system we play in midfield with doesn't seem to suit anyone! I agree it's not exactly a long term move for England given Becks effective retirement from the professional game next year, but if it helps us qualify then so be it. Title: Beckham Post by: oxford_fan on Saturday, May 26, 2007, 13:36:22 Good move. you select the best of the fittest players for national squads, so beckham should easily make ours with the like of richardson/downing etc looking to get in
Title: Beckham Post by: Amir on Saturday, May 26, 2007, 13:47:03 McClaren dropped a bollock by not putting him in the squad and he knows it. Beckham was playing badly enough not to be automatically in the first eleven, but to not even pick him as a squad player was a reactionary move probably to try and make himself look like a no nonsense, tough decision making manager. Instead he's come out looking a bit of a twat.
Title: Beckham Post by: STFC4LIFE on Saturday, May 26, 2007, 15:36:20 Is Hargreaves injured?
Title: Beckham Post by: adje on Saturday, May 26, 2007, 16:39:35 Anyone who thinks Beckham has been instrumental in getting Real to the top is living in cloud cuckoo-he's a bit part player and the hype surrounding him has once again been unbelievable-I'd rather see David Bentley in the side
Title: Beckham Post by: reeves4england on Saturday, May 26, 2007, 17:37:47 I think it is great news! The minute I heard he had been dropped I thought it was a mistake and even now I can't see the reasoning. Anybody who says Beckham is worse than Downing/Richardson/Lennon needs their head checking. He should atleast be in the squad for every game he's fit for.
Title: Beckham Post by: DMR on Saturday, May 26, 2007, 18:27:16 So many people going back on their opinions on this in the media it annoys me.
It's a backward move to a player who should have signed away any hopes of playing for England when he opted out to a mickey-mouse USA league, he was shit for us since 2003 and frankly he single-handedly cost us two tournaments- '98 and '04. Get SWP or Aaron Lennon and COACH them, not go back to flogging a dead horse. Title: Beckham Post by: adje on Saturday, May 26, 2007, 18:42:54 Spot on DMR-although you're forgetting 2002 which he cost us as well

Title: Beckham Post by: RobertT on Sunday, May 27, 2007, 10:23:46 He had a cracker for Real a week or so ago as well, some stunning quality on his crosses and a lot of running.
I'd prefer him to Lampard, always have (then again I despise Lampard being anywhere near the England team). SWP is the best runner up in that position but he needs to play club football on a regular basis. I think he has a little something that Lennon doesn't (who seems to rely on pace which he won't always be able to use). Gerrard with A N Other filling the defensive duties and let Gerrard play how he does when he's bossing it for Liverpool. Mclaren is a tool. Title: Beckham Post by: mattboyslim on Sunday, May 27, 2007, 11:43:40 Beckham should never have been England captain IMHO, but clearly deserves his place in the squad - I'm not his biggest fan, but you don't go from being captain and a certain starter to not even in the squad. McLaren made a political decision and it made him look a fool - He said Becks wasn't playing then picked Richardson and SWP who didn't play either, even with injuries in RM McLaren wouldn't pick him, now he's panicked and selected him - by no means a certain starter but worth a place in the squad. I half expect to see him back in Europe soon if he can saty in teh England set-up - for my money his biggest mistake has been the move to LA - basically admitting he was never gonna make England again - I bet now he's back in the squad he's having second thoughts about the MLS.

the fact that idiot maclaren is manager means more years of no trophies though anyway.so its all irrelivant really. He is a total plank Title: Beckham Post by: Frigby Daser on Sunday, May 27, 2007, 12:15:56 I like the bloke, so pleased for him in a way, but he's not good enough and there's as good available who'll get better and be in the side for more than a few months - we're just going to have to go and drop him again.
McLaren's just written his own resignation Title: Beckham Post by: Fred Elliot on Sunday, May 27, 2007, 12:24:02 Beckham aside, my main point over this whole issue is the dramatic U Turn that McClaren has just made.
This proves that ; He is weak He does not know his best 22 Does England have a best 22 ? He is susceptible to media pressure. Oh...................and he is a cock Title: Beckham Post by: red macca on Sunday, May 27, 2007, 12:25:08 Quote from: "Fred Elliot" Beckham aside, my main point over this whole issue is the dramatic U Turn that McClaren has just made.
