Gurney was one of the most useless twats ever to put on a Town shirt. I couldn't believe it when we got him back. He should have been playing no league years go.

Bollocks
He would have fitted in well with Peacock centre midfield last season.

Something of a utility player, Gurney will join the Hawks in an attacking midfield role

gurns is a decent player and versatile as well. his propensity to blast free kicks and shots into the bank/over the town end was frustrating, as was the constant gobbing off at refs.

he was a passionate, whole-hearted player who could play a bit as well.

I liked his commitment and whole heartedness, I really hated his gobby, dissenting, and his thought that once within the opponents half the best option was always to shoot - one or two free-kicks doesn't make a career.  He was OK, but with some serious limitations - best at full back IMHO - never a midfielder - not intelligent enought use of the ball for me.

As a captain he was useless - the only time he opened his mouth was to gob off ( yet again ) at the referee until he got the inevitable booking. He gave no encouragement to any other player.
Tactically he was crap. His positioning was pathetic and how many times did he lose possession in dangerous areas. He had zero organisational skills.
I agree about his free kicks but thats all he had.
And as for being committed, how many games did he hide in? He was a bottler and a selfish player.
Have people forgotten 'Nam away when we were singing "where's our captain gone" before he decided to do an "Aaron Brown" to us along with his mate Heywood.
He was pure unadulterated dogshit.

I agree with Chalkie. The bloke, bar his passion and sometimes-useful-temper, was a tosser and liability.

I would rather have Gurney than some of the spineless wankers that have been employed by this club over the last couple of years.

I'm not Matt Hewlett but I can understand why you drew that conclusion.
Foggy - I'd rather have had Gurney than Mark Robinson, Bobby Howe, um I'm struggling now.

The stuff being said to Gurney and Heywood at Cheltentham was much worse than "wheres our captain gone", I would never defend or condone the reactions of them that night but some of the stuff shouted at them was disgraceful.

Gurney was a committed and full blooded player, I disagree he was a bottler and felt his passion and commitment was enough to drive on the rest of the team which made him quite a good captain.  His discipline and encouragement made him a poor one.  Not everyones cup of tea but I thought Gurney was a good player.

unlike Brown, Heywood and Gurney at least earnt our respect again by performing well. Brown just didn't learn from his mistake.

I liked Gurney, he always gave his all and OK sometimes he went OTT but that showed his commitment. He was a good player for us

I heard he has wasted all his cash and is a bit of a mess.

As for Gurney, at one point he was my fav player, showed passion and scored some great goals. But then he got to big headed and turned in to a liability. We should have sold him when Paul Jewell was interested!

You must be correct, then onto Farnborough, who he hasn't played for this season.

The misconception aboiut Gurney was he was passionate- don't confuse passion being an upstart.

Remember when after Cheltenham hammered us he did an Aaron Brown? Unforgivable, he never gave a shit and was a total cunt. I don't wish injury on anyone but thank fuck he was forced out of here.

From Wikipedia, Andy King of Fibs:

He was made captain at Swindon, where he clocked up almost 150 games for the Robins. Shortly after the 2004/05 season had started, Gurney surprisingly left the County Ground and joined Swansea City on a free transfer - with manager Andy King explaining that the club could no longer afford to turn down Swansea's wage offer to Gurney - which was deemed surprising because Gurney had one more year left on his Swindon Town contract. Subsequent rumours began to circulate on the internet that an alleged personal feud with a team-mate was the real reason for his departure.

Gurney played just over 30 games for Swansea getting booked 5 times and sent-off once and was soon transfer listed.

Andy King refuted claims that Gurney was to rejoin Swindon, but in August 2005 Gurney joined on loan and this was later turned into a permanent deal. The other player alleged in the personal feud with Gurney had left a short while before his return to Swindon.
