Title: Your biscuit of choice?
Post by: thedarkprince on Monday, May 21, 2007, 11:58:46
Sat down last night with a nice cup of tea and started wondering what was the best biscuit to have with a cuppa.

For me its between a Digestive and a Malted Milk.

What's your biscuit of choice?

I like a custard cream, a jammy dodger, or a nice hobnob.  We have fruit shrewsbury's at work - they are damn nice too.  Not gonna entertain rich teas though, and plain digestives don't float my boat either.

For dunking it has to be the classic Rich Tea.  it's designed for the purpose with a built in ability to melt in the tea if you are daft enough to leave it too long.

For eating alongside I like a nice Plain Chocolate Digestive

Sainsbury's chocolate chip digestives. You start with just one or two but before you know it, you've done three quarters of the pack! Or that's probably just me cos I'm a fat knacker. :D

I strongly disagree rob they are called one dips for a reason where as my choice the custard cream is the marine of the biscuit world.

Custard creams, plain choc digestives, any variety of hobnob, and malted milks are always the best choices.

Ah but's it's ability to disolve into a pile of gunk at the bottom of the cup means you have to have real skill to enjoy a Rich Tea with a cuppa.  Knowing that point at which it's properly dunked but still in one piece.

A Custard Cream is more for your starters in dunking, a safe biscuit allowing you to drift in concentration.  It's also the poor relation of the Bourbon biscuit, which should only be eaten by biting off one of the sides, scraping the filling out with your teeth before finishing it off.

I can't believe no one's mentions Bourbons or Shortcake.

Bourbons better than Custard Creams? How wrong can one person be so wrong?

No mention of the humble ginger nut ?   (not you Blackcurrant)

Anyone remember the sports biscuits with matchstick men on them ?

How about Lincoln biscuits, best nibbled in a circular motion, one row of raised bits at a time ?

Cream biscuits of whatever variety are not for dunking

Ginger nuts are very good too. Good shout. As are the Sports biscuits.

One of the forgotten classics is the humble Lemon Crisp. Yum.

bourbon biscuits are the daddys.

i can happily munch through an entire pack of hobnobs, plain or chocolate, as long as i have a glass of milk to dunk them into!

lemon crisps are horrible.

pink wafers are hoorible.

the classics are still the best - bourbons, custard creams and choccy digestives.

the worst biscuit ever is the hovis one found in boxes of crackers - its a biscuit NOT a cracker.

jammies are a class biscuit, but i don't like to dunk them - i hate sugar in my tea.
