Been told he can leave but has also got a clause which triggered a extra year.

we are going to end up lumbered with players we dont want taking up our budget next year at this rate.

at least we know we have a winger coming in

No other team is stupid enough to sign him a winger that cant cross a ball.
We will be stuck with him.

I think living in London will rule him out a move up north.

I guess with him and Weston its a case of whether they want to play football or not.

The difference is, I can see teams coming in for Weston  :?

someone will come in for Shakes, if only on the premise that they might be able to improve him...

Exactly Sonic - pacy players will always be in demand - he has a good work ethic too - just lacks quality.  I suspect someone will see him as a challenge and take a gamble that they can coach some quality into him IMHO.

i cannot see anyone coming in for him that will pay similar money or offer the level of football swindon are at.think we will be stuck with him for another year.
but like dv said i think weston will get a club easily enough.

He'll go out on trials, and hopefully someone will be fooled like King was by his pace - remember pre-season at Cirencester...i wasn't there but people reporting back were sayig what a quality signing he was.

Saying that, no grudge against him - he's got a good work rate. Hope he finds a decent club....like Grays Athletic

Might be time to cut a deal, pay up the contract, get him off the books.

Someone will take him, the problem with offering players incentives in their contract is that it could have worked the opposite way and he could hacve been a revelation and people would ask why he didn't have a clause or signed up sooner when he moved to a bigger club.

To be fair though if he is in a team that is not going for promotion in L2 he will probably do a good job and get a good run, although his crossing isn't the best he does cause problems for pooosition when he decides to run at them.

Good luck to him..but I don't want to see him stay as there is no chance of his displacing Roberts - what we need is someone to challenge Roberts for that position.

If Shakes' agent can't find him a league 2 team to play for Ricky should sack him.  Get his name out there, mention the Trinidad and Tobago international is available and some team will take him on trial and offer him a deal.

Good luck to the lad, I think he always tried, just lacked a little class.

Thats why sturrock saying shakes will be a squad player because has people lined up to come in and push roberts or even take his place.

Is Roberts being offered a new deal.  Quoted as saying he was in negotiations over a new contract but if he gets greedy I can see anything offered being withdrawn, oh for the likes of Jerel Ifil who must have walked into the office, saw what was on the table and signed on the dotted line!

Feel a bit sorry for him, we looked at our most balanced with him on the right and Roberts up front.

Can't help but feel Sturrocks got rid of another one without really having a proper look- take Brownlie, Fola, Monkhouse etc and we've missed them at times.

Wouldn't you want to sign a three year contract on better money? No need to "negotiate" that one.

Maybe the average person would hang fire for a while and see what others came in?  Just a thought.

True, and I wouldn't blame Shakes if he did a Whalley on us.

But Sturrock's got a style of play which means he's going to be looking to bring in a winger who can put crosses into the box with accuracy, so Shakes will only be a bit part player next season.

I can't remember ever missing Onibuje or Brownlie... :?

DB- The spell just before the loan players came in. We weren't scoring or winning. And we had Peacock, Lucas and Sturrock to pick from. It was then I thought tha at least Onibuje ( or maybe Brownlie) would offer some sort of variety.

Then he signed Corr and off we went.

Oh yes!!  Of course I would, but the point I was trying to make is that if any player gets greedy and asks for more than PS thinks he is worth, I feel that the manager is the sort of guy who will say no thanks, I will look elsewhere!  I would bet that Ifill had several other suitors anyway.

People seem to forget that footballers are just human at the end of the day looking to better themselves and care for their families.

If i was offered more money to work for DHL or UPS do you think i'd stay loyal to Royal Mail? Would i fuck.

But if you had the chance to deliver some really good post or work at a higher level for as much as you were on before, or be relegated to a paper round for a pay rise - working in a much worse job would you take it?  Whilst money is important ambition has to come into it at some point.

Quite. We're that eager to keep hold of him, he probably couldn't believe his eyes.

Santini...out of interest, given the Steve Foster/Westwood/Keates situation - and say Nicho was skipper, in the form of his life etc and just been voted POY and stepped up a league - do you reckon he (hypothetically!) would move back down to a L2 club on better money/longer contract, even if it meant not improving/playing at a higher level?

At this age, no.

Fair enough - I suppose some players (Dean Keates and Chris Westwood included) will get to a stage where they've given up on the 'dream' and just want security. Both of them are 29/30...perhaps they need to take a leaf out of Arjan De Zeeuw's book - he was playing League 1 at the age of 32, and hasn't done badly since
