Title: Meeting Sir Seton Post Match
Post by: Mark Hanrahan on Saturday, May 5, 2007, 21:10:15
I had the honour of meeting the old boy post match. I'm not being sicophantic here either. Avoiding the cameras and limelight - stood by the touchline, soaking up the atmosphere and enjoying the moment as much as your humble, ticket buying Town-Ender.

An absolute honour to meet the bloke who has saved us on more than one occasion - great to see him modestly enjoying our successes - very much on the fringe of the action as opposed to courting publicity. A true fan.

Can I also add that upon being thanked for eveything he has done for us, he went a rather funny shade of pink, clearly embarrassed by the praise. Again, a great test of the man's fabric. True modesty and class are traits that are hard to fake.

Here's to your Sir. Seton.

Maybe he was embarressed because inside he knows he does it to boost his own ego and social standing not for us. Or maybe he saw your superman Y fronts. :Ride On Fatbury's Lovestick:

Be that as it may - the guy still deserves all the credit in the world. Without him, you'd proabably have found yourself stood watching Supermarine today.

Maybe, but I'm still abit mystified why he would have someone like Mike Diamandis as his financial advisor, there's just something that doesn't stick right........he chooses a man who has more failed businesses 'than you can shake your stick at' to look after his money, very strange.

I'm not ungrateful, I thank him for keeping the club afloat but I also notice he has given everything in the form of loans so ultimately wants something back........and as arriba said if we had the money we'd have doe the same.

I've lost all respect for the man, which is a real shame.

I too have lost all respect for Sir Seton Wills....if he stays and keeps diamond mike here he will not be respected by any swindon fans and will more than likely become a hated man!

I have had a bit of kip now so...... Shows you aint been to many games this season Mark! The guy deserves little credit imo. He sits in between the club moving forward next year with Bill, or us doing a yo-yo.
He needs to sell if he wants to be remembered as an STFC legend.
After all, that IS what he said he wanted to do not too long ago!
I dont understand your "you'd probably have found yourself watching supermarine today"
You'd!!!....what about we!! I had you down as someone who cares about the club!

Matt

I'm sure he's a great bloke, and there's no doubt he's saved us in the past - of course we respect that - nobody's ever doubted it. The mistakes he's making at the moment though aren't acceptable.

I'm with Mark H - whatever his faults in terms of his choice of people to ru(i)n the club (and it's a fairly major fault, granted) - SSW is a gent, pure class. I hope he enjoyed the day yesterday and I'm sure he did. Now let's hope a deal can be worked out over the summer that will see the parasites removed and allow SSW  to remain involved alongside Bill and the Fans' Consortium, then hopefully we'll all enjoy many more days like yesterday, without having to wait another 10 years!

I dont doubt the fact he is a gent Paul, and i dont doubt the fact that he has the club at heart. I just hope your faith in the man and his integtrity is on a sound footing.

Who said anything about the future. Without him, we'd have not been in a position to go forward!! Brentford (Away) anyone? I for one thought we'd bit the bullet. Bejesus - I'm all for Bill Power and co. but some people have very, very short memories.

How can we go from talking statues one minute to full-on slating him the next!?!

As for missing games this year, someone is clearly stalking the wrong person.

While there can be no doubt his money saved us, it could be argued that he has had serious influence (or been a position to have it) for a long time, and as such must share some of the blame for us getting into that situation (on more than one occasion). Hasn't he been major shareholder for just over a decade now?

FWIW, having spoken to him I don't doubt his love for STFC, I just think he makes very poor decisions or doesn't make them at all.

That's alright - you are entitled to question my attendance, views and integrity... sexuality, religeon... whenever you want. I've not cared about this club for any of the 20-odd seasons I've been following them

Pauld - spot on. It would be great to think there is a way this club can progress under Bill's leadership AND with SSW as part of the team.

I've never met him myself, so can't pass comment.
As has ben said, one does need to question some of his decisions in the past though. Not least his choice of advisor.
Is all of his money inherited wealth ? this maybe explains some things. Their is a world of difference between someone who has made it himself & someone who has had it given to him on a plate. BTW I took an instant dislike to his hooray henry type son at the fans forum who did nothing but sneered at the fans.

Precisely.

"To conclude, my father and I are distraught by the prevailing attitudes towards us and the current Board of STFC, and it leaves us no option but to seriously consider our future involvement at the club."

All of his money came from his wife, who's name HE took. She's now divorced him AFAIK.

Indeed it is.

He is an hereditary peer and the money is his family's from the Wills tobacco business (although that was sold off in the 90's).

I didn't know Seatons Mrs had divorced him. When did that happen?

His real name is Dave Wills. Seaton is his middle name. Dave Wills. Makes him sound ordinary
