Title: New Lloyds Bar (used to be Edwards)
Post by: stfctownenda on Friday, May 4, 2007, 09:55:40
Being how massive tomorrows game is I thought I would take time out to talk about my second love booze (pubs, bars etc).

That new Lloyds bar opens a week Sunday on 13th May with the size of the building it has the potential to be do really well and give town centre an alternative instead of thousands of people packing into walkabout.

Main reason Edwards didn't work out as the staff were shit and not interested.  Remembered countless times entering there with mates and us being the only ones in there and the staff looking pissed off that they had to do some work.

On my one visit to a Lloyds bar in London it was ace and had a quality time.  With wetherspoons prices as well its an absolute result, bring it on I'm looking forward to frequenting this new boozer  :beers:  could be a good pub before town games as well  8)

i went to a llyods in cardiff, hate weatherspoons apart from the prices as all their venues are the same dirt-ridden shitholes full of old pikeys and chavs

It has wetherspoons prices? Ace!!!

Lloyds bars are good, so i do hope it provides a good alternative and plays some decent music. A new place in swindon was much needed. Just hope it dont end up pikey ville.

I don't think Lloyds have the same prices as weatherspoons? Still don't think it will do well. Does O'Neills get busy? Whats was that pub before edwards?

I tend to do weatherspoons on away days - cheap lunch the £2.10 fry up on sat went down well, decentish draught ale, and reasonably safe and near the railway stations.  Don't normally touch them outside of then though.

They also need to repalce Embargo with something. Looks awful not in use.

It is owned by weatherspoons and if you look at the website http://www.lloydsno1.co.uk/ the food menu has the same prices.  As already said with good music and not too many pikeys could be quality.  Only one I have ever been in down in London didn't have your typical wetherspoons crowd so fairly positive should be a good place to go  :D

Lloyds plays music unlike the other wetherspoons pubs though.

I agree about embargo though, im glad it got closed though!

We just need a place with reasonably priced drinks, decent music and dont let in pikey chavs.

Sadly the location means it will probably be full of chavs ... I tend to stick to old town - The Spot

Embargo is opening as "Rush"  I think, although rumours that it will be a Welsh 1980's striker them bar have been denied.

The Spot is a fucking disgrace.

Lloyds could hopefully be somewhere decentish to go down in Little Beirut. I think it's going to be called the Sir Daniel (or something) which is an old pub name that goes back in Swindon for decades

Spot is full of arrogant cunts tho you look around and they are all dancing as if they want to be in a music video.  I like Old Town to go out drinking through the night but often like to head to Town as theres not normally any place to finish in old town, unless you like Studio

Fatters talking sense shocker!!!

In town I only go to Brunel on a friday in the amphi for the indie night, the rest of the centre is rubbish.  I'd rather have a few quiet ones in Old Town, alas the halcyon mission days are behind us, so a couple of quiet pints is about it, even the Spot is a bit rubbish - overpriced, over hyped and full of twats in stupid clothes with silly haricuts poncing about thinking they're larging it in hoxton or soho.

Thought so. If its like that then im sure it will be popular.

Old town is good up till about 11 but then there is no where decent to finish the night other than walkabout and im so bored of that now.

there's some good pubs in old town for a bit of a bar crawl but as stfctownenda says, no where to finish the night off.

Spot is open till 2, then you've got Soda, If you want to stay in the pub then Wheatsheaf opens quite late and the royal oak never closes. Downstairs in the Vic can be a good laugh, again till 2. Plenty of places to finish up in old town

Soda has a new name doesn't it?

The Donkey, Wheatie, and Prince are all open til 1 on the weekend i think.

Spot isnt really that good after about 11. Soda is tiny.

Wheatsheaf and the Royal Oak i wouldnt go near on a friday or sat night, not really my age range. The Vic aint really my scene either. Although the Oasis tribute band was good i thought.

Edwards was brand new so technically wasn't anything before.  The Sir Daniel Gooch Arms made way for it, absolute piss hole of a pub (although some old nutter will probably disagree).  Went in it and there was literally one man a dog.  A rare pub I quite enjoyed being closed (even though the landlord spent ages trying to stay open when they were developing down there as I remember.

Lloyds have the same food menu but different drink prices (more expensive than a Whtherspoons branded version).  Bit odd, what with them having The Groves Company Inn so close by.  As Fred mentioned, the Dockle is a Lloyds.  Fairly well presented, nice for kids but an absolute shocker for service and food.

Shhh....don't let on FB....its best if all the chavs and pikeys congregate down the end of Town, and leave Old Town to the more discerning punter.

But is it the real thing Ron?  Or one of those horrible corporate scams, whereby the original name is kept, but the beer is some mass produced muck masquerading as Bishop's Tipple?

I have heard Rush isn't massively different to MBargo, main problem with that Bar is the same pikey crowd seem to go there no matter what its called.  Bar Cuba was a quality little boozer, the Flag is quite interesting i'm glad I have never been wrecked in there as you always have to be alert.

Looking forward to the Lloyds bar tho, hopefully it will live up to the expectations to the ones I have been in before as both the one in Birmingham and the one in London were fantastic  :beers:
