Title: Previous players thoughts Post by: Sippo on Thursday, May 3, 2007, 09:09:03 Why does the adver always insist on going back to previous Swindon players for their thoughts on games especially saturday. The Official site does the same.
To be honest I don't give a shit what Rhys Evans thinks. He's moved onto a different club. He's nothing to do with STFC. Arghhhhhh!! Title: Previous players thoughts Post by: Arriba on Thursday, May 3, 2007, 09:17:54 agree.dont mind when its a legend type player but rhys evans?no ta
Title: Previous players thoughts Post by: janaage on Thursday, May 3, 2007, 09:23:38 Is that Blackpool Reserves' Rhys Evans?? No I really do care about what he thinks about us.
Title: Previous players thoughts Post by: Tails on Thursday, May 3, 2007, 10:03:18 Whats funnier is he would be third choice if he came back here.
Title: Previous players thoughts Post by: Ralphy on Thursday, May 3, 2007, 10:10:43 I never really saw what the fuss was about with flapper Evans???
He was dodgy on crosses and his shot stopping wasn't all that. Title: Previous players thoughts Post by: Ralphy on Thursday, May 3, 2007, 10:29:13 His shot stopping wasn't as good as Brez or Smith though.

Smith's positioning is a cut above though - which means less flying saves in the first pace. Title: Previous players thoughts Post by: Tails on Thursday, May 3, 2007, 13:10:46 But flying saves look cool.
Title: Previous players thoughts Post by: fatbury on Thursday, May 3, 2007, 13:22:36 Spoke to his mum the other day and apart from the injury woes (double hernia op - doubtful to play again this season) the local fans were booing him after just a couple of errors ... cant see him staying at Blackpool long .. hes a decent keeper - better than he even showed here .. hopefully he will get a new team and become the number 1 again

If he was better than he showed then surely he would have shown it.? Title: Previous players thoughts Post by: Arriba on Thursday, May 3, 2007, 13:26:02 ands its not as if he wasn't busy enough to show his worth.
he was poo and got away with not getting stick because he was local Title: Previous players thoughts Post by: Ralphy on Thursday, May 3, 2007, 13:26:33 Fatbury, do you claim to know everyone to do with Swindon?

I dont know if you knew or not but I coached a junior team down at Highworth for 8 years .. he was my keeper for 4 of them (under 9 to u 13 before he joined Chelsea School of Excellence) .. so I know what hes capable of - Title: Previous players thoughts Post by: flammableBen on Thursday, May 3, 2007, 14:13:35 How many professional keepers have you trained at that level? Got many others to compare him with.
I'd have thought that especially with keepers there's only certain amount of potential to see when they're that young. There's a lot of development left to do, physical and mental, and keepers don't tend to peak until there late 20's anyway. Title: Previous players thoughts Post by: fatbury on Thursday, May 3, 2007, 14:16:34 Quote from: "Ralphy" Fatbury, do you claim to know everyone to do with Swindon? Not at all Ralphy ... Ill explain tho - obviously know Rhys as explained above .. Paul Trollope used to help me out with the coaching during the early 90s (we were in the same school team at Highworth in OUR younger days) - he was in Swindon reserves then before he went on to Torquay Fulham Derby etc I know a few of the club staff - as you know I went to Ibiza with some of them ... But another of my players made it to pro level as well ... (Shane Duff - Cheltenham) plus a lot of them play at local level as well for teams such as Highworth, Cirencester etc Im also friends with Steve Slattery - England Masseur (who was a fellow coach and now chairman at Highworth Juniors) As a result of these links I have a few contacts in the game who drip feed me stuff occasionally - its not always accurate but sometimes it is ... Sonic said show him something that was correct the other day - I checked back and I have been correct on stuff before ... I dont mind if people heckle or criticise me tho .. its a forum and im old enough and big enough to take it ... obviously Id prefer if it they didnt but thats life .... Hope that clarifies things for you Oh and I nearly forgot ... my ex girlfriend Amy is a chief football writer at the Observer now Title: Previous players thoughts Post by: fatbury on Thursday, May 3, 2007, 14:18:51 Quote from: "flammableBen" How many professional keepers have you trained at that level? Thats a pretty fair point Ben - I occasionally drove him to goalkeeper coaching schools run by the FA so I know he was pretty good for that age And at Schoolboy level he was England Number 1 and Paul Robinson (YES THE PAUL ROBINSON) was only number 2 keeper .. But you are right I guess re development ... Im just biased when it comes to Rhys Title: Previous players thoughts Post by: Spud on Thursday, May 3, 2007, 14:23:43 Sounds like Rhys didn't exactly fulfill his potential then! :-))(
Title: Previous players thoughts Post by: fatbury on Thursday, May 3, 2007, 14:27:47 give him time Spuddy ... didnt you play against him when at Liden (tho he used to play up front a lot on Saturday footy)
Title: Previous players thoughts Post by: Leggett on Thursday, May 3, 2007, 14:30:33 i scored past him in a year 9 vs year 11 game at kingsdown... he's gotta be shit.
Title: Previous players thoughts Post by: Arriba on Thursday, May 3, 2007, 14:31:59 the difference between local footy and cofe-academy is massive.
players that look amazing at local level mostly look like fish out of water when trialed at pro clubs. having said that evans must have been awesome as a kid to play at the level he did Title: Previous players thoughts Post by: sonic youth on Thursday, May 3, 2007, 16:17:19 I wish I was fatbury.

Came across the likes of Holgate, Zebroski, David Stroud, Chris Taylor and Leigh Henry, there may be more. Have to say that none of them struck me as being all that, as kids, and none of them have made it much further than Marine.....in fact Zebroski not even that high being at O*frod. Of the bunch Stroud impressed me the most, simply because he was comfortable with the ball. Not likely, hes about 3rd choice keeper :D Title: Previous players thoughts Post by: Spud on Friday, May 4, 2007, 05:04:12 Quote from: "fatbury" give him time Spuddy ... didnt you play against him when at Liden (tho he used to play up front a lot on Saturday footy) Yes i did, on many occasions. Liden were the only side who used to beat that Westside team - Those matches were good entertainment actually Title: Previous players thoughts Post by: Give us an S on Friday, May 4, 2007, 11:05:14 Liden were shit in my age group. Always shit on the Liden side of the bridge! Title: Previous players thoughts Post by: axs on Friday, May 4, 2007, 11:10:00 i used to play for hungerford up to U15s, we won everything for 2 years and then started losing by embarrassing scorlines like 10-0. i still have a box full of cheap plastic trophies emblazoned with impressive statements like 'Burbage Minor League Winners 1991'!
