Bizarrely and illegally I have three polling cards despite filling in all the paperwork correctly - one for ny parents old address in Swindon, one for their new address in Dorset and one for my current Swindon address.  I'll only vote in my current Eastcott ward, although I'm inclined to spoil my ballot paper as they are all as bad as each other, and I'm leaving Swindon soon so the local issues don't really affect me.

i'm voting and have in every election since i was eighteen.
i find local elections are more about the individual candidate rather than the party they represent.
so i vote accordingly.
oh and anyone in the parks area dont vote for that southgate prick,he was a scab at my place of work and now is a bnp candidate.a prize prick if ever there was one

It's not illegal to have more than one polling card, only to vote more than once.

But obviously SiPi having three polling cads facilitates an illegal use, nto that I'll bother though,  all three wards are totally clear cut who'll win it's not worth the effort of breaking the law for.

No idea who to vote for. All I've seen is a crap letter from the Lib Dems come through my door.
I also had a birthday card from James Gray *shudder*

One person I definitely WON'T be voting for

I might just vote Labour so I then have a right to complain - they need all the votes they can get here and will still get their arses caned

I was tempted to draw a cock on the voting slip but I voted Green instead.

exactly, i dont really see what a vote for labour/con/libdem would do at a local level, other than reassure the parties that they can carry on monopolising the system from central government. a vote for greens is more likely to result in useful positive changes in your local area on the issues that matter at a local level. more power should be given to local government, if they are ready for it, because many local issues must be addressed locally and not on a national level. the diversity of our country means that problems in one area are non-existent in others, and vice versa.

i couldn't find any info about my local candidates bar the tory bloke who sent us about three flyers and visited us the other weekend. he seemed alright and i did consider voting tory on the basis that he at least put the effort in to win the votes, but i couldn't bring myself to do it so thought a vote for the green party would be a vote that wasn't wasted.

John stood last May, Matt.

He didn't stand a chance against Keith Williams (Con). S&NE is probably the most Conservative ward in Swindon bar the Old Town ones.

It needed an independent conservative this time round, but I couldn't find anybody who wanted to stand. And no, not me - I just wouldn't have the patience or cool head to be a fucking councillor. It would drive me mad sitting through all those shite meetings and Full Council every month.

Point of information comrade.....Eastcott Ward which contains most of Old Town's housing, has returned Liberals for years, interspersed with some Labour ....back in the very early 80's Bawden, held it as his private fiefdom, due to a happy knack of getting the postal vote from the surprising amount of care homes, in the Ward.

It was a night of long and hard celebrating when he was sent packing, only to return in Lawn.

Lawn now seems to picked up the name Old Town and Lawn, which appears to be a bit of estate agent rebranding.

no can't be bothered. we have been stuck under a Labour council for years except the last few and i dont think much has really changed here with the Tories in charge. the only thing they have managed to do is get town centre regeneration on track. on a local scale i dont really think it matters too much who you have in charge. it's either going to be Labour or Conservative who are not much different in my eyes so i didn't bother this time round. i dont believe in voting Green because there is more to politics than making sure we all meet our green targets. thats just my opinion anyway

With all due respect it is about leadership.

Fuck what the parties stand for (and this is the main problem with local elections...local politics do NOT equal national politics or leaders).

The man at the helm of SBC is just so, so much better - in fact a billion miles - better than the last council leader.

I really want him to succeed - he has more real world nous and reality checks than anybody has in Swindon since David Murray John.

Having said that, I couldn't bring myself to vote for one of his dead wood blinkered associates today. Not the leader's fault - he's got to play politics within his party as well.

No, obviously.

But voting for his "party" candidates is a show of support. Believe me when I say that Rod is not a big C Conservative, it's just an easier route to getting in to fix things.

So that's why I have a seriously bad problem with voting for Gary Perkins this time around.

I hate the cunt. Yes, "cunt". He is a faction within the cabinet (and an old Mike Bawden stooge) that I very seriously want to stab with a Bristol Rovers fan.

A rock and a hard place.

Reg OT and Lawn area covers the Mall, Goddard Av area and all of Okus - some way from the Lawns, the old town wards are very 'class oriented' depending which side of bath road you live - i'm now in Eastcott (I think) having previously been OT and Lawn, personally I had only two flyers through the door, and no door knocking and it didn't convince me either way - much less info than I got when in the OT ward.
