Title: Loss Of Fans RIP
Post by: Ben-STFC on Tuesday, April 24, 2007, 19:22:20
I would like to point out that my grandfather passed away a month ago from cancer. He was an avid swindon fan supoporting them from the 50's. He attended over hundreds of games and was still supporting up untill very recently.

Also the news about graham, my sympathies go out to grahams family.

I may ask the club if they will do a mintues silence before the walsall game in rememberence of graham and DaviD (my gramp) and also the other people who have died this year. I think it would be touching if they did it and the crowd sang lets do it for them.

If any one thinks this is a good idea and has a relative or friend that passed away this year whom was a swindon fan can they pass their name on to me and i will contact the club about it at the end of the week.

My email address is [email protected]

I think its a bad idea....the club loses fans all the time through death....its a natural process, and as such is meaningless to the players and the rest of us.

I think he was suggested silence for ALL the fans who have passed away. Nice idea and means much more than a lot of silences, and affects more people.

I can see Reg's point, but I'm all for it. Perhaps it will get the crowd going more too?

What's the point though...its a football match ffs...when someone dies you pay your respects in the appropriate manner......very occasionally this may merit something at the club for someone very special...or special circumstances.

The point is reg as i thought you would know tbh is that these fans loved this club and for the family members to see the club acknowledge this fact with a decent send off from itself and its fans would be a very nice touch. You dont have to pay your respects reg thats fair enough you can get a coffee or something when it happens.

Nice idea ben

With all due respect mate....the football club isn't in the business of providing send offs for its deceased fans, apart from occasional special circumstances.....if family members feel so strongly about the connection get them to spread the ashes on the pitch or something.....I know a number of Prem clubs now don't allow this, but have no idea what STFC's take on the matter is.

But who are you to decide if the club gives the fans a send off :? With all due respect yourself reg the lad has made a suggestion if the club are willing to do this then there should not be any problem.Anyone with a half decent bone in there body would not begrudge anybody that surely.

As for spreading ashes on the pitch i agree but in this day and age not everyone gets cremated im afraid.

Im with Reg.

Its sad people die ,nearly everyone is important to someone. This sort of things in my opinion leads to meaningless minutes silence every match.Meaningless is probably the wrong way to put it because of course its meaningfull to someone.

Maybe some sort of remembrance thing in one of the stands. This year/season STFC has lost....

It seems a bit harsh to say that but you know what I mean..I hope.

Maybe i have misunderstood something then but the way i read bens post was that we should do a minuites silence at the walsall game for the fans we have lost throughout the season. This is what i thought would be a good idea maybe the club do it on the last game of every season as a nice tribute.

Agree with what you both say about if it was every game though .

All respects to Ben's Gramp and any other town fan's who've passed away this season.

I agree with Yeovil and Reg. Even if a minutes silence was for all town fan's who've passed away over the last year it would mean you'd really have to do it every year, and then it would just become something with out meaning.

Minutes silences should be saved for special occasions otherwise we'll end up having one every other game and then it loses all meaning.

I like Yeovil's idea though. Some sort of remembrance banner or something across a bit of one of the stands with the names of Town fans who've died over the last year. Would make it more personal than just a generic silence.

I agree with the old Reg, YR, and Ben, for the reasons already stated.

No offence intended.
