For fucks sake, I emailed both Lambert and Bowden about the badge requiring a green train in order for it to represent Swindon, if the train was Great Western Green then I'd be happy with it. But no they have ignored the history of the town in favour of cheap printing costs..........they don't have a fucking clue!!

Not just in green mate but its a Tank engine and doesnt have a tender behind it...get the badge right or its pointless....its got to be a King class which is what Swindon is famous for, its like Swansea or Cardiff having a goat on thier badge and not a sheep!  :D

my grandad was a town fan and train guard.and my great grandad drove trains most famously the king george v.
i think they would be embarrased by the new badge if not angered.

Response from Lambert:

Hi Martin - I've seen the comments on the Forums.

You misunderstand me - the designer went for a 'two-colour' logo for ease of reproduction and clarity etc, NOT because it would be cheaper to print, hence the reason why the train is red - without meaning to offend GWR.

Thanks for your emails. I will follow up again and see what suggestions can be made.

Regards,

Ben Lambert

Both my grandfathers were railwayman, as was my father.......they wouldn't have given a shit.

Coming from the generation that fought the Great War,  campaigned for worker's rights...survived the economic depression of the 30's, then WWII and post war austerity....they tended to see the bigger picture.

PS that doesn';t mean the Board shouldn't have got it right....with their "option 3"

Seems fair enough from Mr Lambert really. Hope everything isn't too far down the line to change it (e.g. it would add extra design costs, etc).

To be fair, not a bad idea. Would have saved a lot of money. Of course there may have been ownership issues (who owns the design?).

Have also emailed the club. I find it hard to believe a qualified designer was involved at any stage of that abortion of a logo.

I've used that one before. Works every time and keeps the job in budget. Mugs.

I don't like it.

Not because of the train or owt, I just don't like it.

I seem to remember the old badge had a lot more than two colours and there didn't seem any problem with reproduction, or clarity. Even the badge we've got now consists of Red, White AND GREEN! and they've had no trouble putting that on just about anything!

It's a cost cutting excercise and anyone who thinks differently is deluding themselves.

Badge is terrible - it's ok going back to a traditional style badge, but if so, do it properly!

If the badge is to have meaning (the whole point behind this) and people on here have raised some very sensible factual and aesthetic errors, there is no reason why it shouldn't be amended....unless they've managed in the space of a day to have all the kits ordered and lotto have managed to produce them all in a day.

A bit of common sense is needed - and as trivial as the matter is, a chance for this lot to get a tiny slice of respect (I said tiny)

I'll beat him to it - the Trust suggested this three years ago (and it was an old idea then). IIRC Sandy muttered something about the council not allowing it. But then we did suggest it at the same time as suggesting the ticket prices were a smidge on the high side.

Back on topic, I was especially impressed that while rambling on about how proud they are of the heritage in the "Salubritas et Industria" motto, they managed to mistranslate it  (although to be fair, only very slightly and I am being a pedant about nouns and adjectives)

Correct me if I'm wrong Mr Smeeton, but we did have a badge pre-74 just not on the shirt - there is a photo of Danny Willaims at Wembely in 69 wearing a club blazer with the old crest that was used til 91 on it.

Henry had an attitude problem, he refused to go out in the rain so got bricked up in a tunnel. to teach him a lesson.

Right I'm going to do a quick edit. I suppose it doesn't really matter if 2 people edit at the same time, we can always incorporate the changes.

it's a joint. well a bad jpeg of one shrank and rotated. and then some of it redrawn in with the clone tool where I had to cut round someones hand.

Is it really that bad? looks like a joint to me.

The continuous re-saving as jpeg is hitting the image quality pretty bad. However in this case I really don't think it matters too much.

Dan, you've ruined it for everybody. I hope you're happy.

And sonic, I'm going to do the same. We're too good for the small time TEF.

I'm shocked and appalled at all of you - four pages of designs of the so-called fans' badge and no-one did one with a pint in one of the four quadrants. You people are a disgrace. We should have a pint in the lower left, and to mark the momentous occasion of our groundshare with Rovers (and the fact that like the badge vote that's been sewn up weeks ago) a flying Arkells seat in the upper right.

I think there are still edits in there somewhere. and could do with being tidied up a bit.

It was supposed to be an organic creative thing grown out of the minds of the tef, I feel I've taken over a bit. Change it more people.

I'd buy a red t-shirt with it on though. Could be a TEF money spinner.

Lets be honest, if Ben Lambert is reading this (or whoever) the fact that we are defacing our own (to be) badge is a pretty clear indication of what we think of it and the board.

And you know, its fuckin funny too.

That, Ben, is brilliant. You see this shows why they shouldn't have done a "vote for one of three options" for the new badge - they should have had a Blue Peter-style "Design your own" competition with prizes in different age categories. We'd have made a strong showing in the under-8s.
