Title: Fletcher to Quit
Post by: fatbury on Thursday, April 19, 2007, 12:54:48
Just announced on BBC Website - Peter Moores to take over temporarily until the Schofield Report is heard.

I dont think Moores is a very good choice so no doubt the ECB will see him as the way forward.

Mixed feelings - I did feel Fletcher had come as far as he could especially with the one day side but our test side has really turned around.

I hope with this change we dont lose the good gained in tests during this period.

Id like to see Shane Warne as the new coach - young, exciting and a born winner! He also strikes me as someone who would enjoy beating his own country!

fatbury; why don't you think moores would do a good job? his track record is superb, look at the winning culture he has created at sussex

tartanarmy: england are a winning team in tests (one series doesn't change that) and have been shit at odis for twenty years

the favourites are whatmore, moody and moores. all three would be excellent appointments in my opinion, i'd probably prefer them in the order i've written them

I would also go with Peter Moores he has helped Sussex and England A team to a lot of success.

Knew they'd announced a press conference at 4.30,but thought it might get leaked before then if he was quitting.Link for the BBC cricket web site seeing as Scott isn't here   http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/cricket/england/6572149.stm

Fletcher has done a great job for us,especially in terms of the test side,i mean we were bottom of the test playing nations when he took over.I think if we'd done alright Down under he probably would have stayed on and i doubt i would have had much of a problem with that inspite of our performance in the WC.But the point is we didn't and i think it is time now for another coach to take over and inject some new ideas,we still have some great world class players in our side i'm sure of it!The only man who springs to my mind is Tom Moody but i've heard he wants to return to Perth, suppose Dav Whatmore might be in with a chance.I really can't think of anyone else, sure the ECB have got their eye on someone,i trust their judgement ,Fletcher was an inspired choice and has done a lot for English cricket, wish him well for the future.

If Warne took over, he would do what I would do with an england football team... Pick a team full of crap players

I agree with much of what Larwood said, he was a good coach for us but his time has come and Peter Moores sounds like an excellent choice, young(ish) and  worked his way up. I read in a paper earlier (forgot which, t'was a redtop though) that Moody is pretty much set on returning to Western Australia otherwise he'd be my number one choice as well,

The ODI side needs an overhaul, the test side needs a period of recuperation and some fine-tuning/tweaking.

Good luck to Fletcher, I quite like him really...

McClaren already does that though.

Other than the stats I don't know whether Moores is up to it or not. I was speaking to someone who coaches at another county yesterday and he'd rather go for Moody, thinking Moores wasn't really up to it.

What I can't believe is how Graveney is holding onto his job! What the hell does he do? Constantly picks out of shape/mentally unfit players and then sits back and is wholly unaccountable! Its a joke!

Bit like what he used to do on the field for Glos then!

well personally i think moody's record is made to look good by the players he's got playing for him... the likes of murali, vaas, jayasuriya, jayawardene and malinga are natural talent and a coach's dream.

if they do change the coach (as is looking likely) then i hope the new coach isn't on the selection committee.

jayawardene has gone from talented underperformer to world-class under moody, he brought malinga through and stuck with him after a diifcult start to his career, look how sangakkara has kicked on under moody

sajid mahmood is a genuinely quality, nautral talent but isn't performing at the top level. this is where the management structure comes in

Moores sounds like a good choice really. give the bloke a chance. Fletcher has done a great job for us but it's time he and England moved on
