Post by: SwindonTartanArmy on Saturday, April 14, 2007, 18:45:46
Soooooo....

Swindon Town finance director Sandy Gray said on 24 November 2006 - "We are in negotiations with someone already. They are very keen to do a sponsorship deal in the football league."

Talks going well eh Sandy?

Fatbury knows who it is, but he won't tell us because it'll compromise his 'source'.

Ha ha. I dont understand why they would keep it quiet? Surely a sponsor would want their name advertised?

That would be ace but only if season ticket holders could get 20% off any sort of Bob The Builder merchandise.

So what your saying is that we're not going to get a 'big' national business to sponsor us but some local tinpot company? I can see it now. New shirt sponsor to be revealed as Crapper Skip Hire.

I think its disrespectful to call them "tinpot", after all anyone brave e nough to put pen to paper on any sponsorship deal in this current climate I would class as more than a little brave.

But yes, you summarise correctly, it is not a multinational or even a national compny.

It does worry me that it may be a pretty rubbish deal though. As a non-national company, I would question just how much money they would be able to afford in the form of sponsership.

Could it be that the board only received one offer and as such basically had to accept it?

I don't think it matters if it's local or not if the deal we get is good enough. Possibly the only problem with having Nationwide for so long is that the club got too comfortable with tendering for sponsors.

I still think my suggestion of the "Cunty Grund Hotel" would be better

Would be ironic if Cowlin Construction end their agreement with Bristol Rover's to sponsor us instead. Especially with Rover's playing here next season too!

So it's Fred Bloggs & Son construction then...father and son business probably paying a lot of money to have their names on the shirts....

But St Modwen have a web site  :soapy tit wank:

Let's hope if they can't get a decent shirt sponsor then they will get the rear of the shirt sponsored and the shorts to make money up.
