Title: car insurance renewal
Post by: blinkpip on Wednesday, April 11, 2007, 19:03:39
My car insurance renewal is never cheaper than what I find around.
It's up at the end of the month and my insurance company Churchill won't match it.
For the last 4 years, I changed my insurance each time.
Has anyone been offered a better deal than what they find online?

Why not phone up your existing insurer and say you are leaving. They will probably ask why and also match the offer then. Worked for a few people I know

Unless you're a shit driver

moneysupermarket are a pretty decent place to start and then contact the cheaper quotes directly to see if they'll slash a bit more off.

Give Privilege a try Blinkers: www.privilege.com/motor/index.htm

Been with them a few years now as they were the only ones to touch me after I was a bit of a wally. £19 a month fully comp, woo hoo.

A very cool L reg 1.8 Mondeo estate. But then I'm 33 with 7 years no claims.

And it's 16 valve. And it's red. I have to beat the chicks off you know  :|

No you've asked them to match it or you will elave.

Your best bet is to find a decent quote and ring them up and say "I wish to cancel my policy. I'm going to <insert name of compnay here> instead"

If they don't ask how much that policy is they are foolish

I did. They lowered their original price. But was still higher than some quotes I found.

It's the same every year, I threaten to leave and they hardly lower the price.

Also I found that getting a website to find quotes for you is worse than searching yourself.

That's the point I was making. You shouldn't threaten you should just do it. If they don't lower their price further you haven't lost anything except a bit of your time

I've only been driving 3 years and my most recent quote for renewal from Norwich Union actually increased. My circumstances hadn't changed other than the fact I've got an extra year of no-claims and experience. :?  not sure what i did to upset them so took my business elsewhere

I've just insured my new motor with Admiral. By far the cheapest out there for young drivers.

Saying that though, it's still £67 a month fully comp. That's what you get for driving a 2.0 HDI DTurbo at 20 with previous claims.

I trawled several internet sites, finally found Confused.com  They offered me several different quotes from various companies, ended up with Churchill, which were £50 cheaper than Norwich Union who I had been with for the past two years.  Probably have stayed with them but when I rung them up to pay my premium I was connected to a call centre in India, fucked if I was going to give some little dark creature my credit card details! :-))(

PS  Will Jeffrey now start another racial topic with his cronies?

I used thisismoney which gave me soem good quotes - tesco being up there, then I went to Zurich/eagle star who pride themselves on not using the net because it gives better customer service - and proceeded to sent me to an indian call centre - who cocked things up - still cheap for where I live and my car being on the road.
