TeamTalk - Blackpool goalkeeper Rhys Evans has recovered from a virus and will come back into contention for the clash with Tranmere on Saturday. The former Swindon stopper has fallen behind Paul Rachubka in the pecking order over the last six weeks, but is now fully fit and will be hoping to regain his place in the starting XI.

thought I would use this old news link as it has the right title

Rhys training with Swindon - he is building up his fitness after he picked up an injury pre-season - hopefully will impress PDC and earn a contract

Could solve our keeper problems

Evans was never good enough first time round let alone 2nd time.

Not gonna happen, training for fitness is one thing, a contract...well thats something very different.

Rhys Evans of old was an ok keeper however he is well past his sell by date now.  I'd rather we started with Mark Scott than sign Rhys Evans

Gary Rose just tweeted that Town are going to make an announcement tonight about a new loan signing....

Perhaps Fatters isn't wrong afterall?

Quote
FORMER Swindon goalkeeper Rhys Evans is currently training with the Robins, but is unlikely to be offered a permanent deal.

Evans, who played for Town for three years from 2003, has been without a club since leaving Southend in the summer.

He was training with the Roots Hall side last week but hooked up with Town this week, prompting speculation the club could be interested in the 29-year-old

However, boss Paolo Di Canio confirmed to the Advertiser today that Evans is at the club solely to maintain fitness, while helping Town with their training drills.

Sounds like thats a BIG no to me.

For our newer members: Fatbury made Rhys Evans the goalkeeper that he is today.

(i.e. shit and unemployed)

Not sure I get the dislike of Evans. I remember him to be better then our current custodians, but what do I know.

exactly, won player of the year in what was admittedly a shit team, but miles better than what we have.

I wouldn't rule it out. It would be easy to sign him up on a short term deal for a few months.

I think Evans is exactly the same sort of 'keeper as Smith. A good shot-stopper but very flappy when it comes to crosses.

From what I've witnessed, I agree.

I wouldn't take Evans on because he's become a bit of a goalkeeper-for-hire. Would he compete or will he happily sit on the bench and take a bit of money as he can't find a club?

Rhys Evans left us because he/his agent/both felt that he was too good for League Two football and since 2008 that's the only place he's been and he's failed to hold down a first team place for two seasons.

I'd much rather have a young Premier League/Championship goalkeeper.

He'd never come back here.  He's married to someone I know and I was chatting to him at a wedding reception a few months ago.  Doesn't hold Swindon in very high regard and reckons he was treated badly.

Sounds like a load of bollocks to me, why when you think about it logically would he say STFC the 'object', i.e. the fixtures and fittings didn't treat him well and wouldn't want to come back.  As that's what is implied here.  Pretty much everyone involved in the club that's important to Rhys Evans is new since he was last here, the manager, the players, the board...  I've met Rhys once or twice and he seemed a bit more switched on to say such a load of old waffle like that.

No offence fella.

Ha ha is it?  Same logic applies, makes sense if it's Mildenhall as he's always come across as a complete and utter tosser.

We did treat him a bit shitty didn't we?

Signed him up on a longer contract, sold him a few days later.

I spoke with Frank once at a Barmitzvah (sp?), he said he'll never come back to Swindon as he always hated the Whalebridge roundabout and the town centre Woolworths.

What has happened to Mark Scott? Is he still injured?...he has deputised on a number of occassions last season on the bench and impressed during his stint as Supermarine last season from reports in the press.

IMO I do think someone like Thomas Sorenson would be ideal in that mould, no chance of getting him I accept but has played at a higher level, currently sits on the bench with no chance of playing 1st team except in the cups and fancies a stint between the sticks...who knows it could lead to longer!

Cheers Maj

We could all name players we know we can't sign.  I'm not entirely sure how helpful it is though.

Director of football at Reading for the best part of the last 10 years. Doubt we could afford to coax him out of retirement. More's the pity.

Hoult has been a top class keeper in his time....bit of a legend at the Baggies, not sure why he's slipped down this far...he may still have a performance left in him.

Maybe not, but at that age unless your playing regular football and trainning hard you will quickly lose it.

No probs, glad to be of service. I do have a bit of an advantage in that i live in the land of the plastics. Always thought Nicky to be a decent bloke, not sure he's 100% popular as Director of football with the Reading faithful mind.

Hoult was the subject of lurid reports this week when it was claimed that he and another man were filmed on a mobile phone having simultaneous sex with an unknown blonde woman. Hoult is wearing only a club polo shirt throughout the minute-long video.
That long really....
