Of course, that was meant to say shout (not shot), but if you're offering shots, some metaxa would be nice...

My better half is working up to be a photographer. She did a friend's wedding in January, for free, just to develop her portfolio.

Please please please book a professional photographer (I swear that was the biggest mistake I made when I got married, skimped on the photographer, and my missus has never let me forget it  :x ), but if you, your intended and the OP are happy to have an enthusiastic amateur tail around, she'll be up for it. And probably do you a good deal on any prints (just cover costs).

Congratulations Sam but have to join in the chrous of disapproval re the during season date. It's all very well thinking "Oh, it's just one game" now, but you've now set yourself up for a lifetime of not being able to go to early season games because "It's our wedding anniversary darling, surely you'd rather spend it with me". If Yeovil's going to be pageboy, make sure he catches the bouquet.

I'll try and keep it short, but here goes. Him and my mum split up years ago and my dad moved out. He used to see me and my sister every other weekend.

After I left school I went off and did my own thing and didn't really keep in touch, but still saw him about once a month, so did my sister.

Out of me and my sister I was my dad's favourite really, he used to spoil me and not her.

With me moving out of home and everything I kind of lost touch a bit more, but not totally. Lately though my sister has become the favourite. My dad begrudingly gave me and Nic a few grand to help towards the mortgage deposit, but was quite reluctant.

Now my dad moans to my sister that I never get in touch with him and says he's tried to contact me loads of times (which is bollocks). He went off on holiday on saturday without even telling me, saturday was his birthday. I didn't have a chance to get a card for him or anything and I'll get more shit for it when he gets back.

It just pisses me off that he whinges about me not contacting him and saying he's tried to get in touch with me when he blatently hasn't. This might sound a bit naive of me, but he's my dad and he should make an effort.

it's easier to moan about stuff than to do anything (like be the bigger man) and do something about it..

just look at most of us on here for gawds sake!

sounds a pickle though...if you actually do manage to make contact you're only doing it "cos he's been moaning" etc.

that'll be £10 please

it's easier to moan about stuff than to do anything (like be the bigger man) and do something about it..

just look at most of us on here for gawds sake!

sounds a pickle though...if you actually do manage to make contact you're only doing it "cos he's been moaning" etc.

that'll be £10 please

Exactly my predicament.

and then meet at hers and hug

i'm terrible with advice, but you'll regret it if your dad isn't at your wedding even if he's to blame.

failing everything else, get a best woman, fuck tradition!

I'll definitely get in touch with him at some point and he will be at the wedding.

I'll give him a while to calm down first.

Sam, Whatever you do make sure you, your dad and your sister get it together before the wedding! Families are important and you sometimes don't realise it until it is too late.  My wife fell out with her parents many years ago, so much so that when her dad fell terminally ill her mother would not let her know that he was asking for her!  Luckily one of their neighbours let my wife know what was going on and she saw him three times before he died.  Unfortunately, I don't think she will ever make it up with her mother, she never let my wife know her dad had died or when the funeral was.  Luckily the neighbour and another member of the family kept us informed.  They never sat together or spoke at the funeral or since, bite the bullet and make the first move if you have to Sam.

Not trying to be a shit, but it does take two to tango, you're his son and you should make the effort too.  People get a bit touchy when getting older maybe your old man just feels a bit left out.

Not sticking up for him but just putting across a point of view (without knowing any of the details).  Apologies if offence is taken!

Jans right, perhaps if you made more of an effort with people in general you would have mates that wern't to do with an internet forum.I didnt make the effort with my old chap he kicked the bucket before we got a chance to talk.

Umm sorry if that seems a bit harsh :|

Don't worry about it being harsh, it's all constructive criticism.

Yeah maybe I didn't make an effort to keep in touch with friends after school and college, but they've not made the effort with me either.

You all probably think I'm a right saddo asking Fred because I haven't got any 'real' mates, but I do see Fred as a real mate - just because I got to know him through an internet forum doesn't make him any less real.

I dont doubt you consider him a "real" mate and ive met some people off here who id consider real mates...dunno if id have them as my best man though id have thought you need a bit history with someone to be  a best man.
But thats neither here nor there as im not getting married anytime soon(still saving for a for an Asian buy a bride ...(is buying a wife sadder than being friends with Fred...Jurys out   :D   ))
To be honest Sam there are loads of chaps like you who hook up with a bird and forget they ever had any friends. Some live happily ever after and some find themselves newly single in x amount of years time with no friends and no life.Im sure you will be the first option though.

In the time you wrote that you could of rang your old man or got him a birthday card.

I hadnt read this sam, but fuck me your dad helped you live with your mrs and gave you money for a deposit.  Do you realise how lucky you are? My father left when I was 3, fuck it thats life.  I now work in a building with him as rent an office from him but he knows nothing about my life apart from work.  Never talks footy, women, cars, life or anything.  Your fathers your father if you want him in your life, instead of feeling upset shes his favourite maybe try and get involved with him yourself.  Show him your websites youve created or whatever else you do.  Sorry for teh rant but these things are two ways.

Wait until you've got about a month to go Jan, then you'll be packing it. Up until then you generally just throw it off with "It's ok, we've still got X months to go" but the reality hits you when you start counting in weeks instead of months.

Anyway, roll on Friday and a right good lash up

Keep the date free in your diaries...

Cos I'm getting married.

 :beers:

Could be difficult - it's my sisters and Adi Williams' Birthdays that day - but if your missus lady garden needs mowing I'm your man :-)
