Title: phil smith Post by: DMR on Saturday, March 31, 2007, 17:10:51 i hope he's not daunted by having some serious competition that he didn't expect next season, i love the guy but what an absolute shambles of a performance :D
Title: phil smith Post by: Spud on Saturday, March 31, 2007, 17:14:38 Agreed, he was cocking awful today.
CATCH IT PHIL! CATCH IT! :? Title: phil smith Post by: lebowski on Saturday, March 31, 2007, 17:20:02 not to make excuses for smudger, but a terrible pitch, gale force winds, and the low sun (in the second half) makes a goalkeepers' job very hard.
Title: phil smith Post by: DMR on Saturday, March 31, 2007, 17:21:55 That explains the kicking, but not the running off his line and taking on defenders, inability to catch, not meeting his punches, not calling to his defenders etc etc
Title: phil smith Post by: Arriba on Saturday, March 31, 2007, 17:27:30 he was diobolical.nearly everything he did went wrong today.
but overall this season he has been ace! Title: phil smith Post by: Samdy Gray on Saturday, March 31, 2007, 17:29:20 My heart was in my mouth when he nearly let the ball bounce over his head in the second half.
Also when that high looping ball caught the breeze and nearly dipped in under the bar. Brezovan would've caught that with one hand. Title: phil smith Post by: Bushey Boy on Saturday, March 31, 2007, 17:42:16 I reckon Dave Russell didnt make it as a keeper as a kid, he always slates our keepers.
Smith is allowed one off day, he has been superb in his first season as a pro Title: phil smith Post by: DMR on Saturday, March 31, 2007, 17:44:32 Smith would be up there as one of our players of the season and I just said I love the bloke, do keep up Ashley
Title: phil smith Post by: Bushey Boy on Saturday, March 31, 2007, 17:45:15 It wasnt a shambles of a performance by any means David
Title: phil smith Post by: janaage on Saturday, March 31, 2007, 18:01:11 Thought he was average at Lincoln to be fair, and his kicking is getting worse by the week.
Title: phil smith Post by: Whits on Saturday, March 31, 2007, 18:08:01 kicking seems to be a standard problem for swindon keepers, evans kicking last season was entertaining to say the least!
Title: phil smith Post by: Chubbs on Saturday, March 31, 2007, 18:14:27 Like everyone has said smithy has done wonders for us since he came in, better than anyone expected but i still feel brez will take the spot in the number 1 shirt, just as long as sturrock actualy gives him a chance.
i recon brez will bribe ol' claude to clobber smithy one in a training sesh. Title: phil smith Post by: DV on Saturday, March 31, 2007, 18:25:45 he wasnt up to his usual standards today far from it.
Sadly keepers generally arent allowed off days as it can cost goals....his kicking was better in the second half....but everyone seemed to miss kicking it in the box infront of the Town End must have moles living under there or something. The conditions made it difficult....but I did think he was going to drop that last one into his own net.... Saying that Shewsbury away he won us the 3 points... Title: phil smith Post by: Samdy Gray on Saturday, March 31, 2007, 18:26:16 You can't really blame him for being a bit rattled today:
Quote I went down trying to protect myself - I took a few hits and I am astonished that they finished the game with eleven players. I could feel the punches coming in when I was on the floor. Title: phil smith Post by: Samdy Gray on Saturday, March 31, 2007, 18:28:32 What I meant is they were like that all through the game, like when Fortune-West dumped him to the floor in front of the TE in the first half.

Title: phil smith Post by: DV on Saturday, March 31, 2007, 18:57:28 a corner he very nearly scored from as well!
Title: phil smith Post by: Bogus Dave on Saturday, March 31, 2007, 19:35:01 haha. smiths dive was ace :D
Title: phil smith Post by: Bogus Dave on Saturday, March 31, 2007, 19:35:57 ahhh that sounds a bit silly. I mean his dive where LFW nudged his chest, and smith went down holding his face
Title: phil smith Post by: DMR on Sunday, April 1, 2007, 00:29:08 Get a grip ffs, LFW didn't even touch Smith and he was rolling about like a tart, Zaboub does it as well.
Swindon player or not I can't stand cheats and they were both sad today. Title: phil smith Post by: Iffy's Onion Bhaji on Sunday, April 1, 2007, 08:31:32 Smithy had a poor game yesterday. but i suppose every player does from time to time
Title: phil smith Post by: sonic youth on Sunday, April 1, 2007, 11:37:24 Smith got battered a couple of times before the mass brawl (which I missed) so I can sort of understand if he was a little shaken up and cautious.
The wind was to blame for the kicking as much as anything but that doesn't excuse what was a relatively poor performance by his high standards. I'm genuinely excited at the prospect of two top class keepers competing for the number one jersey next season - when was the last time we had REAL competition for that position? Title: phil smith Post by: Mark Hanrahan on Sunday, April 1, 2007, 15:50:13 :o
First iffy performance of a quite extraordinary run of games for him. Let's not forget that prior to this season he was more used to facing Slough, Basingstoke and the Frog and Woggle Public House 2nd XI than mutant Div. 2 centre-forwards like Leo (elbows) Fortune-West. I'm sure Brez signing his new contract has given him food for thought but as an earlier post says, the conditions were akin to goalkeeping hell. He's only conceded one at the end of the day and we've walked away with the points. That'll do me! Title: phil smith Post by: millom red on Sunday, April 1, 2007, 17:30:58 :goodpost:
Title: phil smith Post by: Reeves for King on Sunday, April 1, 2007, 21:10:42 He didn't adapt to the conditions, and after Ifil frightened him with that pass back that was bouncing around like a rugby ball he just sort of cocked everything up for the rest of the afternoon.
Was a bad performance by his standards, if it had been Evans kicking we would have all been delighted. :? |
