I've got a vague memory that this has been suggested before, and now I know a lot of you it was only thinking back to my first forum meetings that made me realise how awkward it can be to say hello to someone you think is a tefer but you're not sure.

Let's start with the first people I met. First of all was Reg, he approached me. He went for "Flammable I presume."  Bit of a classic, and it worked out. I'd already posted pics of what I looked like so I guess it was minimal risk for reg.

So err... let's swiftly move on to my second forum meeting (don't really think I'm getting to the point here). It was Fred, and one of his mates in the glue pot (as far as I remember). I'd already organised to meet DV in there (and only had a vague memory of pictures posted on here to go by), but he hadn't turned up when all of a sudden people are talking about stfc right next to me.

It was lucky their was an event on round the corner as I could presume he was there for the open fan's forum in the old railway museum. But I didn't know if he knew about the TEF or even any STFC forums. So I risked the clumsy "Do you chat on any of the Swindon forum's?" line.

This could have easily left me looking a bit silly methinks. What I'm getting at (and having been reading the somethingawful.com forums a bit) is that we should have an innocent phrase you can ask someone without sounding too stupid but if they know it they can answer.

Somethingawful.com has "Do you have stairs in your house?". Which is sort of subtle and ideal. I'm wondering if anybody has suggestions along those lines.

This idea has also been kicked into me by the fact that I've seen people look at me funny in my dad's bar. Not in a nasty way, but like they know who I am. I'm always up for having a way of introducing myself without going on about the internet.

So yeah any suggestions? something subtle.

I reckon this is well important. I'm gonna sticky it because I've just worked out how.

I'd go for...

"Do you like tobacco in your cigarettes?"

but it makes you sound like a bit of a drugey.

"If you like a lot of chocolate in your biscuit, join our club"

I must say having spotted Fred elliott and some other bopards in the merlin on sunday such a phrase would have been most welcome. I decided to just enjoy my pint and the result instead of looking a muppet
